[SPOILERS] Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Thread #2) - One Thumb Up

You guys are making it very hard to view this thread at work...
Does your office have a problem with BB8?

Also as a side note I'm really glad Han Solo finally bit the dust. He went out on a high note and it's unlikely Harrison Ford will be able to pull of a performance like that again. I honestly didn't know he had it in him.

I'd really love to see Hayden Christensen again as a force ghost. I know that obviously just about everyone in this thread considers him a blight on their own childhood memories, but to me he IS Anakin. To have him talk to Mark Hamill and/or Rey would be an amazing way to bridge all three trilogies. He deserves another chance man

And also, I can't understand all the people being happy that the Sith aren't mentioned, just because of the prequel association. They were a part of the Star Wars universe long before the prequel, and honestly the Sith lore is probably my favorite part of Star Wars in general. I'd love to see the Sith purebloods and all that come back from the EU

Observations from my second time...

• There is absolutely a tie between Rey and Obi-Wan. During the vision sequence, right before Rey snaps out of it, someone who sounds exactly–and I mean exactly–like Obi-Wan says "Rey" very audibly. Missed it on my first showing, unmistakeable on the second.

Yep. The 'Rey' part is cut from Guinness saying 'afraid' in IV, and they had Ewan McGregor come in only to do the 'these are your first steps' line. So you get both Obi Wans in one line.

But the Sith ARE mentioned in the new movie.

I think I kind of hate the idea of the Sith in general. It just kind of ruins everything in a way that I don't think I can describe well here. The Jedi Council does a similar thing.

Sadly they are name-dropped, but the way the film handles Snoke and Kylo makes me have hope that the Sith as it appeared in the prequels and EU is gone for good.

"how come you look young and Obi Wan has to be an old jedi ghost?"

"...."

"also did you really kill children?"

"...."

I find it really funny that people assume Rey is attracted to men given that the movie gives no indication to suggest this (heteronormativity and all).

She could be gay, and in fact I'd say her being gay fits her character better.

People assume Rey is heterosexual because homosexuality is relatively uncommon.

No

Force ghost hayden is the worst

makes no sense whatsoever. why would he manifest himself as the terrible younger version of himself when he died an old man?

you don't see a young force ghost obi wan or yoda

The ability to communicate with Force ghosts is a light side ability.

I have never heard that. All we know is that Obi-Wan tells Anakin "if you strike me down, I will become more powerful than you can ever imagine."

Unless I missed something, which could be?

Jesus... can we not sit around and hypothesize about this... How about we all just agree to table this one and wait for the movie to tell us, if they decide to.
Do you have a problem with me hypothesizing that Rey is gay?

It's non-existent in the Star Wars universe. All the more reason for Rey to be gay.

Darth Vader got his redemption, so should Hayden Christensen's acting.
Darth Vader having a change of heart is 3720 times more probable than Hayden Christensen becoming a good actor. Also, in our specific universe of this superverse we live in, only one of those can happen and one already did.

Just saiyin breh!

Because unless Disney changes it, Anakin's force ghost is young in canon. You can dislike it all you want but the canonicity cannot be disputed.

Its easy to explain too, Force Ghosts appear how they want to. Obi Wan and Yoda died in a way they were fine with, and Anakin wanted to appear before he'd been tainted. Or something. I thought you didn't have to explain the force?

I think I heard in a Clone Wars commentary that sith ghosts can't happen because they're only interested in the here and now: the search for power in this life, with all the greed that comes with it. They don't care what they can do once they leave the material world.

Obi-Wan obviously didn't know he can upgrade to a younger model until the end of Episode 6. When he reappears in the new trilogy, he'll look younger to fit in with the new kids.

"It doesn't matter how stupid it is, It's canon!"

They ain't bringing him back.

I have no shame, I love the finn/poe or finn/poe + rey love triangle fan shipping going on.

I'd love if one of them (any of them!) turned out to actually be gay or bi, but given it's Disney I have no delusions to that end. Still, it's an intriguing idea. T__T Judge me if you want!

Where's the Qwi-Gon ghost?

I'd prefer no ghosts at all and just visions tbh. No need for ghost Darth Vader to sit down on a log and chat to Rey about Kylo Ren.

Unless they're of the same sex, of course.

Yet we already have people shipping Poe and Finn!

I admit I was under the impression that was the case. I just looked it up on Wookieepedia and there's no definitive answer to that or any sources given.

Basically, working off memory from what I thought was confirmed is that you need to be calm and at peace in order to both become a Force ghost and be able to communicate with one, which are both tied to the light side of the Force.

It's weird how aggressive you're being about this. Rey doesn't even exchange a single word with any human female in this movie, does she? Rey being gay is totally not indicated in the text.

We can hypothesize but there's just nothing to talk about there. Why would we do anything more than shrug at the idea? It's certainly *possible* is the most we can say.

Were going to get the tumblr shipping stuff for 2 years straight huh......
Yup and I'm OK with it

You have to train a bit to be able to see Force ghosts. Leia couldn't see the ghosts at the end of ROTJ and was wondering wtf Luke was doing staring at a log.

The answer I need to know is why, if Kylo was so obsessed with his grandfather, not appear in ghost form to try and keep him away from the dark side path?

THEORY:
Before dying, a Jedi can take on a Force Ghost form, only if they're anchored to another Jedi.

Meaning, Obi Wan was determined to guide Luke from the grave, and didn't appear to anyone else. Anakin made the same choice when he died, as did Yoda.

Qui-Gon always clashed with Yoda, and his final F.U. was to show there was another aspect of the Force.. that and he was so wrapped up in the Sith conspiracy, he wanted to get through to the most powerful Jedi he knew -- Yoda.
