From the discussion about how normal scavenging for food is, you can observe that is during the day now in US, as opposed to our socialist Europe.

The guy just has so much fun being evil, the thought of crossing over to the light probably never crossed his mind

Woosh!
lol they even gave him that move in battlefront

I was literally like "yooooooooo here come the raid guyssssssssss fffffffffuuuuuck"

that's it

worse than phasma cause they won't even show up again

If you think Rey had any, you must also acknowledge that Kylo had like ten years. Or at least some number of years and then ten minus that number spent as an operator. Dude actively worships Vader, for sure he was doing some experimentation on his Order missions at least. Rey gets real far in her first-day experiements. Kylo had years and years.

- is unstable
- shot by a bowcaster

Luke beat Vader in ROTJ and had no more training than he did at the end of esb according to yoda.

I wonder if I could go into VIII without seeing any trailers or anything...
I couldn't but I'd be less worried about spoilers with that one in general, I highly doubt the entire storyboard for the movie would leak ahead of time. I don't mind having a general idea but an actual storyboard is just ridiculous lol. I think I'll be following VIII's production much more, unless something huge like that happens.

Ian McDiarmid is just so much fun as Palpatine. For all the bad things that the prequels might be responsible for, at least they gave us more Sheev.

Whether defeating Rey makes sense for Kylo or not is a separate question. That his training was "incomplete" is a nothing excuse. His training outstrips Rey's by an extreme amount. Like straight up: at least ten years. He learns from Luke and then goes on to answer directly to Snoke (whose evaluation of Kylo's training as "incomplete" only matters if Snoke himself can train Kylo or provide him with somone/thing that can).

Anakin's training was "incomplete" at the time he went to slaughter the younglings, and by then dude had resolved like a dozen galactic poltical conflicts and defeated piles of Feared Enemies.

Soooooooo

I assumed I was going to my second viewing tomorrow alone. I told my GF I was going in the morning, and she said for both of us?

I was like no I didn't think you wanted to go (Again).................She said no I would like to get another ticket!!!

How bad ass is that?

Now that I have processed the movie, I don't really mind that Han is dead. I just want to know more about Rey.

She's Luke's daughter. He stashed her away to hide her from Ben and Snoke after his academy failed and left her a trail of breadcrumbs if it was her true destiny to find him again.

The only part that needs explaining IMO is whether or not she was trained and forgot her training, but I don't think she was.

My roommate just watched the ot for the first time.

He hated it. He doesn't like "old movies" though frankly I think they hold up pretty well. He saya they are boring.

Heart is broken

Hating movies outright because of when they are made...calling Star Wars boring...
Me and this person would never be friends.

The Opera scene in Sith is one of my favourite moments in all of Star Wars, PT and OT

"Not from a Jedi"

I was mocked for having this same opinion a few weeks ago. Amazingly well directed, great cinematography, subtle references everywhere, Ian McDiarmid chewing the scenery left and right. It's really great.

This was off putting in the film to me too. These people have the most advance technology in human history that they get for free in the fucking garbage. Yet, they they are still "poor". Bunch of whiners if you ask me. *twiddles cane*

I saw this last night and overall it's a good movie. It does have some cheesy/cringe moments like Leia saying "may the force be with you" to Rey even though she should be mourning over Han's death, or that staring contest at the end between Rey and Luke. The vfx were well done (as expected, since ILM is that good). I wish they would go more in depth why Finn all of a sudden decided to defect. Stormtroopers are basically brainwashed to be loyal so to see Finn to have a sudden conscience seems out of place.

So is it all but confirmed that Rey is Luke's daughter? Some people think she's Obi-wan's kid but I think the year difference is too big. She would have to be at least 30/35 years old for that to happen.

And that stormtrooper who got mind tricked by Rey... that's James Bond, right??

"Then his apprentice... Killed him in his sleep... Ironic. He could stop others from dying... But not himself..."

So

Fucking

Awesome.

People don't think she's Obi-Wan's kid. The theory is that she could be his descendant, like his granddaughter or something. Luke being her dad still seems the most likely answer.

And yeah, I think it's Craig.

I think people are semi blind to some of the good in the prequels, there is a fuckton of good there.

Strangely im struggling to think of a scene in TFA that I loved, but i think it requires me to watch it a dozen more times.

Perhaps Han shouting "BEN"

That got me :(

The scene with Finn on the ground and Poe in the background taking out like 8 TIE fighters in a single shot/run.

That one will stick with me.

Just saw for it the first time and really had a good time. A lot of surprises for me, since I managed to go in spoiler free. I did feel it ventured into retreading iconic moments of A New Hope a bit too many times, but it was probably a good idea since this is supposed to be the grand return of Star Wars.

I definitely leave excited for the future. They more or less nailed this one!

Just got back from the film. I enjoyed it, but it was waaaaay to similar to A New Hope. Like, I keep thinking of plot points in this film and how they pretty much were ripped straight from the original. I know Disney was going to play it safe, but they went way too far. I'd be lying if I wasn't a little concerned about how they handle the future "main episode" films as well. The New Order and the Resistance are the biggest offenders of this. Hopefully they explain this in the future films because it makes no damn sense why the Republic wouldn't have a standing army to fight this kind of stuff. Especially considering its been like 40 years and the TNO would have to be around for a good long while to build their Not-Deathstar.

I also have to complain about how they handled the setting of this film. Even though it went all over the place (Jakku, Forest Planet, Destroyer, Not-Deathstar, etc.) it didn't really feel "big." The OT films did a much better job of really giving the individual locations life. Tatooine alone had more character than any of the locations in this film combined.

Overall, it was a good film but it didn't really blow me away. At least it deserves to make more money than Jurassic World.

ps if Rey is Luke's kid my eyes are going to roll into the back of my head while I'm sitting in the theater.

For me, the scenes I absolutely LOVED from TFA was Kylo losing his fucking shit and slashing the computer to oblivion. Then the Stormtroopers doing an 180 and walking away.

And of course, that fucking AMAZING lightsaber fight.

Tentacle monsters was one of the most exciting bits for me, possibly because it hadn't been anywhere in the trailers, and because I was curious if they were going to some classic Star Wars creature antics.

the main episodes are forward-moving, but the off-year spin-offs are supposedly during any part of history isn't it?

Yeah, so there are those, too. That's even a better reason for them not to spend very much time at all telling stories within stories in the core trilogy.

1, I don't know where that information came from. So source, please?

2, If you want to call her a non-traditional slave, then call her a non-traditional slave. So far, in the Star Wars universe, the only slaves we know about are owned, out-right. So naturally, when you call a star wars character a slave, most people are going to draw natural comparisons to other star wars slaves.

1) Fixed: http://www.starwars.com/databank/unkar-plutt

2) No, I shouldn't have to do that. People should educate themselves of modern slavery, the writers for TFA seem to have done so as her situation was clearly meant to mirror Anakin's right down to her uncommon knowledge of machinery and innate ability to fly. Also, it could be argued that this form of slavery is just as old and "traditional" as other forms.

"Luke isn't a Mary Sue!"

Ok, tell me why.

I don't think either counts as a classical Mary Sue.

The plot of ANH does not solely revolve around Luke, he is just a farmboy, he is occasionally portrayed as clumsy and inexperienced (see e.g. Cantina scene), he has to get saved by Obi-Wan from the sand people and by R2D2 in the trash compactor, you could partially blame him for leading the Empire to the secret base of the Resistance (although all of them should've seen that coming actually). There is also personal tragedy in the death of his aunt and uncle.

Just because a character accomplishes unlikely feats or has enormous talent doesn't mean they're perfect or (and I really hate that term) a Mary Sue. Luke isn't perfect, neither is Rey.

I need to see the fight again, only seen it once, it was alright, a bit too nolan quick cut if I rmemeber.

My favourite scenes:
- The opening battle. Watching the stormtroopers speed out of those carriers was epic.
- The Falcon chase - the sound of the Falcon turrets has never been better.
- X-Wings zooming into battle behind the wave on Takodana
- Kylo's interrogration scene, especially him slamming his mask down in the ashes
- Han's death
- Kylo's spin when fighting Finn and cutting trees in half as he swings his saber

We don't know if Luke trained Ren in lightsaber combat. And even so, what combat has Ren had against someone else with a saber? Luke was the last jedi

Rey was shown to be a skilled melee combatant, and given the world she lived in, had to fight to survive.

How can you say his training outstripped Rey's by an extreme amount given that?

I can only hope that there are just no more Deathstars or Deathstar-likes ever again. Having a weapon that can destroy planets really just takes the gravitas out of, well, everything else.

The Republic's army was stationed in the Hosnian system, the one that got sniped from the outer rim.

It's Star Wars. Wars in the stars. People can't live on suns, they can only live on planets - the ability to destroy planets is something the bad guys will always seek.

My favorite scene was Rey's flashback when she discovers the lightsaber. It has so many layers to it, with so much room for interpretation still, while revealing more about Rey in the process. Daisy Ridley also acts the hell out of that scene. Then Maz ruins it lol.
