i crafted a couple of the badges, now my profile looks tacky with a white border around the top frame, red ribbons around my profile picture, and wreaths around my first showcase

Which is a way of making it like Dragon Quest Heroes had a featured discount for you, and Squarecells had a featured discount for me.

Okay, now to elaborate; the gamification element could come from that people could trade coupons to get the games they want (of course they might be tempted to buy the games they have coupons for, first)... and a way to really encourage people to spend money would be that if they use up all their coupons without trading, they get more coupons. That's a process that benefits everyone from users looking to buy a single game all the way up to JaseC powerusers. You could even randomize the coupon value a bit, so say if the regular sale price was 40% off and the coupon price was 66% off, you could also generate 50% and 60% coupons. The uncertainty would probably increase sales.

I'm really surprised that given the data they have they go with such a boring approach. I wonder what it is they are seeing that we aren't. Maybe it's the incoming Steam hardware influx that's tying up staff time.

The endless front page is trying customize it to each user but I don't have the desire to actually slowly assess each game in the discovery queue and so I don't trust Valve's system to properly understand what I want. My distrust is fuelled by my apathy sure but it is what it is. I assume I'm not alone in this which is why they're trying to get users to actually go through the process to get some data but if that is the reason why they tied the cards to the discovery queue, it just seems like asking for worthless information from people just going through it as fast as they can.

I have to imagine the reason Valve is not doing limited sales windows is because they would get an influx of people refunding games to get it slightly cheaper every time it rolls over. Semi-randomly assigned coupons would be even worse. Even if it was a single coupon per game and Valve clearly displayed all possible coupons up front, the extra steps of needing to seek out those coupons but also barter for them would be a pain. I just want to buy the game I want instead getting dragged into some meta-game nonsense.

Yeah... I will be honest, the only Infinity engine games I can still play are Fallout 1/2 and Planescape Torment (though only the story holds up, gameplay is bleh). If you want to get into these games at this stage, I would honestly just recommend Pillars.

All prices will be the same price for the whole duration of the sale (no dailies/flash sales)If i'm not mistaken.

Pretty underwhelming overall-I didn't buy anything during the Autumn sale. 99.9% sure I won't be buying anything this sale either.

I have played them, you have played them. Many, many people in this thread have not. BG2 is possibly the best isometric RPG ever made. Hence, buy them! PoE pales in comparison. Hopefully PoE 2 will be as big a jump as BG2 was from BG1.

That still leaves Trails in the Sky, Shadowrun Trilogy and Divinity OS EE that are great, cheap (for TitS and Shadowrun). PoE is good but too cumbersome and takes itself way too serious. Also... Combat sucks and it's micromanagement galore.
 
I grabbed Fable Anniversary. I really enjoyed the original Xbox title and wouldn't mind replaying it. This seems like the best way to do so. May be a good one to test the Steam Link and Steam controller out on.

That'll probably be the only thing I buy but Dark Souls 2 is tempting.

Some of the discounts weren't too big, but those were on my top priority list, so decided to grab them now. I might add Downwell and/or Mighty Gunvolt (which I thought it was included with ASG lol) later, but that's about it :D

Here are the lesser known picks from my GOTY list:

Why?! I can understand BG1 due to its low level D&D shenanigans but BG2 is a classic and much better game then PoE. Heck Icewind Dale has its charm due to combat and it's very accessible as well (and Icewind Dale 2 through GoG).

BG2 magic system is amazing, it has a lot of NPC scripting to help with micromanagement, the storyline is expansive and quite good, the side characters are interesting and so is the world (which is humongous). This is the opposite of most things in PoE where the main story is good, combat is mediocre and most chars are meh.

Well, I disagree. Strongly. But then again, I don't consider micromanagement to be a bad thing.

(Also, BG2 requires at least as much micro, just with a much much worse user interface)

I hear that BG2 Complete is the version you want, and that Enhanced has a lot of issues.
 
People getting Transistor, it's a great idea to look at grabbing the Soundtrack DLC too. If you email proof of purchase of that to Supergiant Games, you can get a lossless FLAC version of the soundtrack sent to you.

Bought Pillars of Eternity and now that it's sinking in that's a "spiritual successor" to games like Icewind dale and Baldurs Gate, I am ridiculously excited. It's been along time since I played those games.

Also got King's Quest Chapter 1 with some money from cards. That's all probably i am going to buy except maybe some really cheap stuff that I can use my wallet chump change with.

Overall i think the sales are fine, I don't agree at all that this sale is shit
 
Almost lost Aviary Attorney's release in the shuffle. Glad to pick that shit up as well as some other lingering releases that I've been meaning to get come the next sale.

I bought some games this morning and I got to the working part of the checkout but never got the confirmation message at the end, but the money was removed from my Steam wallet, and I received cards for my purchases but I still haven't gotten an email receipt, should I be at all concerned?

I have both but for some reason it is featuring the Level 5 ('Monster Summer Sale') over the Level 100 000 000 badge ('Monster Summer Badge') now. Separate badges and I still have both though. Weird but crisis averted.

Disagree with BG2 being better or about PoE combat? Interface is really not that much worse especially with mods. Char scripting is better.

Nah, it got patched up and is fine. Zooming is useful alongside no need to mess with widescreen mods. Also most mods work with it.

That said BG Trilogy (BG1 on BG2 engine, BG2, expansion) from GoG is fine too.

I played the alpha and beta. Didn't look good then, probably wasn't very good at launch, either. If Soul Calibur came to PC, I'd double dip, though, 100%.
