How can anyone watch this and actually think that Kylo was significantly injured during the fight?

Kylo Ren isn't as great as you think he is. Shitty students exist. There's plenty of rationalization for it. Hell, just look at his saber, it doesn't even work right.

People expected Maul/Vader 2.0 and didn't get that.

This is OT jedi, not PT fucking Hogwarts Jedi.
Darth Maul was interesting, but they did exactly jack shit with him.

Do you guys think that Kylo Ren even felt bad while murdering Han?

If he did, it was only for a split second. Kylo even thanked him for it.

That whole scene was done very well imo. You have the symbolism of the light from the sun waning, to almost complete darkness right as he was about to kill him, conveying his loss of the light side of the force in that very second.

Probably. I don't think we're done with that aspect. Even Vader killing Obi-Wan allowed him a moment of redemption.

He doesn't kill Han because he's angry at him or anything - he does it because he's required to to show his commitment to the Darkside, and he admits how it's actually hard for him. He talks about being "seduced by the Light." He's a fascinatingly conflicted villain.

The more i think about Rey VS Kylo for this trilogy the more i think it will be one of the great duality antagonist in movies in general.
Look at this video from leaked SW7 scenes with kylo and rey...

It's so epic. It's like two elements who can't destroy each other. Positive VS Negative.. we never saw that for Anakin and Luke because Luke wanted to save his father.

THIS...is really good and so promise for 8 and 9. Like Batman and the Joker.

Eh, i mean.... you mention some ok scenes. Nothing more. The suspense was lacking throughout.

I'm sorry you feel that i'm being an asshole. I walked in hoping people weren't being sold by executives at Disney and hundreds of millions worth of marketing dollars.

unfortunately, no. i got sold.

When you get over your 'I'm better then all of you sheeple' you could actually engage in discussion over parts of the movie instead of your wide paint brush hyperbole.

Same. It's kinda funny that all the tension I felt was hoping that Kylo wouldn't die.

I didn't as Driver is signed on for more :p

Abrams is amazing at creating villains. Hoffman in MI3, Cumberbatch and now Driver. I figured Kylo would be a great villain due to this streak and I still wasn't prepared.

salsa nitpicking #8743

shoulda given Han Solo a funeral scene

short one even

moment was handled well but was so fleeting you didnt even quite react at the weight of it till you were out the theatre and thought "oh freakin HAN SOLO just died"

they do funerals all the time

How did you miss the shot where they specifically showed a bunch of his blood on the snow?

He's doing these moves but people say, "he's doing badly because he's injured". Protip: if you're shot in the side and bleeding as much as him spinning while lifting a sword is not good. It's to show you the weirdness of the argument where it doesn't make sense but people try really hard from assuming what will happen in the next movie to just going super deep with symbolism. It's quite weird how deep people are analyzing this movie and coming up with answers. It's not to say the movie is horrible but geez... sorry to be a downer but reading this and the previous thread you would assume God directed the perfect movie.

Fuck yes. I was worried that Kylo was going to die. I was so relieved he survived this movie.

Yeah this made me happy. He still has so much to do, I'm more excited to see his growth than I am any of the other characters. They did a great job unlike say, Darth Maul, who looked cool but did jack shit in the movie and had all of 2 lines.

Let's see. Ren got hit with the bowcaster which they made sure we knew was like a fucking bazooka. He bled everywhere. He kept hitting the wound for adrenaline. His face showed pain.

Other than that I don't know how we are supposed to know he was hurt.

wut

but it's also possible that you are firmly taking a contrarian position because it makes you feel above the fray. How is it that you are able to "actually think" about the movie and yet other people are not? How I am I not actually thinking about the movie?

If you disagree about the film, that's fine, but you need to backup your position with more than: I am smarter than all the sheeple.

i'm not taking any position. i loved the original 3 star wars as a kid, i gave the 3 prequels a chance, and i gave this one a chance. they took all the major plot points from the original 3 and added a girl central character. that's pretty much all they did.

the villain was just another whiney dude with daddy resentment that we're for some reason supposed to feel for at times? i dunno, and then a stormtrooper that decides to switch sides amazingly quickly because he was seeing people getting killed senselessly but then has no gripes about shooting a fuck ton of stormtroopers while being instantly trusted by everyone he was previously supposed to kill???? What????

it's kiddy popcorn at the highest of Disney levels. Not even the original 3 was this much Disney . They should have trusted the team at Pixar to do this entire film as a live action. At least we could have had a slightly deeper more compelling narrative with characters that weren't just 2 dimensional.

A huge neon sign behind him telling us he was hurt would've helped.

You missed the point. It's a response to the argument, "he lost to Rey because he was hurt" when he's pulling out sword spins and stuff.
