[SPOILERS] Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Thread #2) - One Thumb Up

Yeah this made me happy. He still has so much to do, I'm more excited to see his growth than I am any of the other characters. They did a great job unlike say, Darth Maul, who looked cool but did jack shit in the movie and had all of 2 lines.

Like i said before, Kylo and Rey are connected now.. seeing only Kylo evolution is irrevelant.
Also i bet that during star wars 8, he will be obssessed by Rey and will want revenge ASAP. Like "I want to find that girl".

Positive VS Negative
Light VS Dark
DAY VS NIGHT

i'm not taking any position. i loved the original 3 star wars as a kid, i gave the 3 prequels a chance, and i gave this one a chance. they took all the major plot points from the original 3 and added a girl central character. that's pretty much all they did.

the villain was just another whiney dude with daddy resentment that we're for some reason supposed to feel for at times? i dunno, and then a stormtrooper that decides to switch sides amazingly quickly because he was seeing people getting killed senselessly but then has no gripes about shooting a fuck ton of stormtroopers while being instantly trusted by everyone he was previously supposed to kill.

it's kiddy popcorn at the highest of Disney levels. Not even the original 3 was this much Disney They should have trusted the team at Pixar to do this entire film as a live action. At least we could have had a slightly deeper more compelling narrative.

This isn't Star Wars' MO though. You get cool ship battles, laser sword fighting, inoffensive dialogue and a standard hero story.

Let's see. Ren got hit with the bowcaster which they made sure we knew was like a fucking bazooka. He bled everywhere. He kept hitting the wound for adrenaline. His face showed pain.

Other than that I don't know how we are supposed to know he was hurt.

He should have just voiced his every thought and concern in the most literal manner like Anakin in the prequels. You know people shouldn't have to actually pay attention too much.

I can see Kylo getting much, much stronger in the next movie.

Also is it me or is Finn non-force sensitive. He got trashed twice when he wielded a saber, he just plain sucked.

Final question.. What did Snoke mean when did there has been an awakening?

It was really subtle too, the way they kept hammering home the power of the bowcaster and then zoomed in on Kylo's wound. Easy to miss if you were taking naps off and on throughout the movie.

You missed the point. It's a response to the argument, "he lost to Rey because he was hurt" when he's pulling out sword spins and stuff.

And he was also limping around during the fight. And you don't know how the injury or the emotions of killing his dad affected his force powers.

People complaining probably expected this.

Kylo Ren:Despite the severe wounds I have sustained from the wookie and traitor causing me to bleed out an obscene amount, I will still attempt to fight you! Let me first hit my wound for adrenaline to fight.

I thought it meant that Rey found the force

Kylo used up most of his adrenaline when he was fighting Finn, his fighting with Rey was more subdued (for his style, at least) and part of that is him backing off to try and turn her. I don't think he could have kept fighting that much longer than he did.

The more i think about Rey VS Kylo for this trilogy the more i think it will be one of the great duality antagonist in movies in general.
Look at this video from leaked SW7 scenes with kylo and rey...

It's so epic. It's like two elements who can't destroy each other. Positive VS Negative.. we never saw that for Anakin and Luke because Luke wanted to save his father.

THIS...is really good and so promise for 8 and 9. Like Batman and the Joker.
That's what this scene so clearly showed for me. This is the conflict. They even have a giant fissure separate them

If only Lucas were here to deliver us the writing we needed.

I pity you. Both are great. Despite my qualms with the score it's still good.

The score is a bit more subdued than usual. But not really in a bad way. The prequel scores had centerpiece themes that they really pimped out with music videos and shit, but this one doesn't really have anything like that.

I wonder how intentional it was though. Maybe they wanted him to dial it back a tad, introduce new themes but without going to 11 so that the themes can be developed along with the characters and story. All that being said Rey's theme is pretty iconic already to me anyway.

You missed the point. It's a response to the argument, "he lost to Rey because he was hurt" when he's pulling out sword spins and stuff.

Have you never seen other movies do the whole, "he's hurt but with sheer will he's fighting against the pain/their injury" trope before? That's what he was doing, he was even punching his wound to show that audience this was happening. He was shot, he was bleeding out and he was doing his damndest to not like all of that defeat him.

This way you can have an exciting and well choreographed fight while still showing how much he's in a disadvantage. I mean, they even had two scenes where Han Solo shot Stromtroopers just so you'd see how powerful Chewie's crossbow was.

It's not like I'm having to jump through hoops to make this argument, it's all in the scene and the scenes leading up to it.

Both Rey and Kylo you mean
He found it years ago!

Luke shows up out of nowhere
"He's been injured from the blast of that bowcaster and he has no focus! Rey, go in slowly from the right to catch him off guard!"

This won't be up long lol

He was hurt. His fighting style doesn't contradict that.

When he spins and swings his sword it does. A person shot in the gut doesn't do that. You can chop it up to force but then the fight is even more confusing.

Overall, they didn't give a satisfying enough reason as to why Kylo lost. Heck, it could have been he was injured and he was beating her but the planet started crumbling so it was either they both die or she dies. Falcon saves Rey at the end just like this ending. One makes sense and shows that Kylo is actually experienced (he already is with the feats shown). The story needed Kylo to lose and the way the action is shot the reason for his weakness makes no sense.

IIRC she uses her rage/anger to overpower him.

The force isn't only about the good side and i think Kylo in this movie is like Rey when she pilot de Millenium or sense things: he have a great sense of the force with his "broke lightsaber" but he didn't awake yet.

He awake TRULY in the dark side when he killed Han solo, and Rey truly awake the good side when she take by Force Anakin lightsaber like Excalibur.

It's soo epic... for me Snoke he's saying "ok...the battle between good and evil is starting again"

He wasn't just physically damaged, he's an emotional wreck and pretty much a broken character. If anything the scene's as much about Kylo Ren's development as Rey's, because now he's going to need his heroe's journey after realized how much he sucks at everything.

this movie sucked. J.J is already a commercially mechanical director and yet i still felt executives at disney had his balls in their hands the entire time.

some baffling story telling decisions. not to mention lame reveals and silly twists. Plus, it was action action action action action... pause for a cool moment, roll credits. fuck this was bad. It's a long the lines of the second Trek film, (not even as good) and no where near the Trek reboot.

I think the Trek reboot worked because it was really funny at times and their actors were really well selected. This movie had none of that besides the ones reprising their iconic roles. Once the hype dies down it's going to get reviewed harshly.

Bro you might want to check with your dealer. You got a bad cycle of roids this time. Dun screwed up your head

He does have this crazy ability called the Force you know.

Jesus. Christ. Do you need it explicitly said jn dialogue?

Which makes him more of a jobber if her simple power up wins over his years of training.

The same thing happens between Vader and half-machine Darth Maul I think. Maul's seemingly stronger than Vader because of his anger/hate, but it's Vader's hate
for himself
that lets him beat Maul.

Ok, even at those standards it's average at best. Remove all the star wars stuff, make believe it's another sci-fli flick and this movie doesn't register a bleep.

I like how you assume I didn't pay attention. Yes. It was very obvious he was physically wounded but he was able to make it further in the forest before them, do some sweet spins, swing with his upper body, etc. We get it. He was hurt. Don't beat the drum thinking every one who disagrees with you is stupid, you're just making your position look childish.

So you have never heard of real life human beings doing extraordinary things while injured?

Adrenaline ., how does it work?
