I agree with everything except your take on the humor. I think the humor is pretty different and more blunt than it ever was in ANH or ESB. I don't mind the humor at all though but it's pretty different and it does stand out more.

One other thing just to add to your list, but I'm surprised about all this talk about Phasma. Why are people so upset that she didn't have a bigger role? Maybe it's because I went into the movie without ever seeing anything nor knowing anything about the existence of that character until I saw her in the movie, but I really had no disappointment about her screen time.
i think people want to view her as the next Boba Fett, mysterious and possibly badass, but ultimately a dud. Maybe she'll have an interesting turn in the sequel.

I'm glad that practical effects are making a resurgence, but if we didn't have people like Lucas or Cameron pushing CGI through most of the 90s and the first half of the 00s, I think films would have been worse off today. The scope of spectacle driven films has expanded pretty dramatically in the past 30 years.

I see, I fully admit I don't know what that means and I'm not really "into" the toys or anything, I just went looking for an image that reflected what it looked like to me in stores when the prequels came out and I found one.

Ah, ok. The line I mentioned looks like this, compared to the traditional figs. (The one in the middle.) Pretty nice, but difficult to do vehicles for. The TIE Fighter is absolutely massive. The Boba Fett and Slave Leia were in that picture.

Same reason why the Master of the Knights of Ren is a whiny young adult Vader fanboy. Captain Phasma, the leader of the Stormtroopers, sounds pretty young too. Maybe Snoke likes them young...

Pains me to think about this. Could have been done so much better.

For some reason I'd like to see Rey struggling to replicate her feats with the force in the next film and getting frustrated by it. Maybe some bullshit to do with how it was because her life was in danger idk.

The force helped her in a pinch, but this time the mastery must be of her own.

I wonder where Finn is going to go in the sequels. He's my favorite part of the movie and has the most room to grow as both a character and his abilities whatever they might be.

Didn't Star Wars already do the whole "ancient evil" thing with the Sith in the prequels? You even have the Jedi Council doubting their return in true Bioware style.

I can see her going the opposite route and getting over confident, and having that get her into trouble; there were already signs of that in TFA.

My guess is her training will be very different than what we would imagine. No rock-lifting and that kind of stuff, it will be all mind-fuck like when Luke saw Vader in the cave. She already clearly is able to use the force, but what she needs is to control it and face her past or fears. I think that's what Luke will focus on, and it will make it more interesting to watch, otherwise it'd have to be some sort of silly 80s montage. By making it focus on her fears, it allows us to explore her backstory.

I would be REALLY shocked if they invoked that in any way at all.

Probably the honest-to-God biggest risk that could be taken.

The Clone Wars

At Celebration Anaheim in 2015, Dave Filoni and Pablo Hidalgo revealed at their The Untold Clone Wars panel that before the show was canceled, there had been plans for the Yuuzhan Vong to potentially appear in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series. Sketches of the species drawn by Filoni for the show were shown at the panel.

Just sayin

I didn't know Benecio Del Toro was gonna be in VIII.

Maybe he'll play the main baddie of that film. Kylo and the Resistance have to contend with him from different perspectives/angles.

It's bugging me how I keep seeing people read so much into Maz's line about seeing Finn's eyes before. Things from him being a clone to him being the son of Lando or whatever. It was just a wise-sounding figure of speech from a 1000-year-old character used to offer Finn's character with a final decision to flee or stay. She's not talking about recognizing his physical eyeballs. Jesus.

This reminds me of people interpreting Leia's "Aren't you a little short for a Stormtrooper" line to mean Stormtroopers have a standardized height.

You trained with a kendo master? that is pretty cool. For a second I thought you meant you trained with a lightsaber.

I actually only trained with him a handful of times. Our sensei was a 4-dan korean guy who was his apprentince. So he traveled down from New York to teach us and check up on his student.

Really cool old japanese man who could literally kick all of our asses for like 6 hours straight without a break. It was great seeing him school our own sensei as well.

Another cool little anecdote, but he was actually one of the 3 samurai who time slipped in TMNT 3. He did it under a fake name and swore off Hollywood after seeing the movie. lol

My mom actually wanted Finn to turn out to be Lando's son.

No to that. The two prominent black guys in the entirety of the Star Wars universe should not be related.
