[SPOILERS] Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Thread #2) - One Thumb Up

I wonder if we'll get an extended edition DVD of the new films as we did with The Lord of Rings movies. I want a longer scene between Han and his son due to Han wanting to know what's up with the Supreme Leader's odd name, Snoke.

Han: What's up with the the SL's name 'Snoke'?
Kylo: Fu*k if I know. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ *kills Han*

I was kinda disappointed with Lupita Nyong'o's character, to be honest.

I mean, she is all right in the film, I just don't like the fact that she is CG.
And talking about CG, it's mostly all right during the film, except, again for the CG characters, like Maz and the Supreme Leader or however he is called. They should have gone with make up and practical effects.

I did enjoy the film however. I was shocked during the death scene, but more because the score DID stop, then the death, to be honest. Great touch. One thing I did miss, and I never thought I would, is the political stuff behind everything. It could have used a minute or two during the length of the film to explain what really is going on behind the curtain. Also love that Han threw a person to their death in the tentacle monster scene. It's the vindication for the Han shot first débâcle.

Unless Disney want to do it (which is not normal for them to do them) it seems unlikely as JJ has also said in interviews that he dislikes doing different cuts of movies. We will probably see the stuff as "deleted scenes" on the extra features instead.

"Snoke is no joke...bloke. He likes to drink coke and gets stoked to smoke. Now in I'm gonna let this soak. Did you like that, dad? It took me 2 days to write it."

Can we stop with all these ridiculous theories about Rey's origins? She isn't Luke's daughter, Kenobi's niece, her own grandmother or Yaddle's cousin ffs. The simplest answer is usually the correct one and the answer is that she's a disguised, memory wiped force sensitive member of the reworked Vong sent to stop Snuke, who is also a Vong. Kind of like Nina Galfridian. Nina had a stepson, what was his name? I'll let you look it up and blow your own mind. It's pretty obvious what's going on, man.

So many people complaining about the Snoke cg... I didn't think it was too bad actually. I must have low standards for cgi stuff.

That's more simple than her being related to someone?

actually everyone was surprised that it was an hologram, i was too and i think J.J.A was good with this surprise.
Beside that , i don't like that "snoke" guy.

Thanos 2...

I thought it was good too but then again I'm a Doctor Who fan....

Sent by the reverse vampires, right?

The CG was fine for a hologram but if Snoke ever appears in person then it needs to be better.

My problem with Snoke is not that he's CGI, but that he's essentially a LOTR villain in a Star Wars movie.

The Supreme Leader should've been someone who had presence just like the emperor did - someone intimidating not because of size. Having him be a big troll is kind of silly and I was hoping that wasn't his true form until it was confirmed that it was.

He will be smaller then what we saw. The hologram was projected larger then he actually is.

Maybe the size is only due to the hologram, similar to the Emperor in ESB:

JJ really hates distance and travel time doesn't he? From BSG instant warp in Star Trek to ships moving from point to point in the blink of an eye in Star Wars.

Even his super weapon had variable speed. Sublight as it's fired and travel through space then hyperlight to instantly arrive at its destination then sublight again is it splits to hit the planets in a single system.

Maybe I'm just in a weird mood today but I'm kinda wishing Snoke had really been a 25ft gekko.

McQuarrie's concept art for the Emperor was part of the inspiration for Snoke.

From Neil Scanlan, head of creature and droid effects:

“This character is much better executed as a CGI character. That’s just a practical reality when he’s 7-foot-something tall; he’s very, very thin.”

I'm under the impression Luke still has his green saber. I don't recall him taking it when he escaped from the second Death Star, though, but it's his. The blue was the one Kenobi gave him and I'm assuming was found on Bespin, maybe by Maz even.

Hmm Luke did toss the green one to the floor at the end of Jedi. Going to assume that particular saber got lost in the destruction... Unless he's seen later with it on.

Also how did 5 planets in the same system being destroyed cripple the Republic fleet? You'd think space ships would be in space and not all in the same place for that exact reason.

I'm pretty sure he would've picked it up before dragging Anakin to the ship.

EDIT: Actually... Someone took a screen cap to show it.

EDIT2: I could've just found the scene on Youtube where it's very clear.

A 25ft Gordon Gekko.

I liked it highlight to me is Hans solo son and Flynn was great but I liked him since attack of the block. No more blowing up Death Stars please getting tired of this aspect.

The problem with Snoke is that his hologram is sitting on a massive chair and we see his entire body so we get the impression that that is his actual size. Everything about Snoke was disappointing

I thought it was 1 planet and 4 moons or something. That doesn't answer your question though.

I thought it was somewhat like Pearl Harbor. Or what could have been if the Americans hadn't had some of their Aircraft Carriers pulled away.

I think the damage comes from wiping out the Republic government whom support the Resistance behind the scenes. Really wish they didn't edit down the flick from the first cut. Totally going to pick up the novelization.

Watched it at the Air & Space Museum IMAX last night.

Movie was very average.

They made the only brother in the movie the new Jar Jar Binx, which was interesting. Plenty of other things that bothered me which I want to get into more detail but I need to gather my thoughts first.

That was very deliberate though. You're meant to think it's his real size until the hologram distorts from dust or whatever. It's clearly an attempt to appear more imposing, like Ren with his helmet

But yes, I didn't really like the fact he's just a CGI thing either.

If the fleet was in place around that planet the debris could have done damage I guess. Plus the lack of government now and panic.

The Republic switches from system to system. So I take it the fleet moves along with it. When the Starkiller weapon hit the surface you get that "shot" from space. You actually see a bunch of starships in Orbit of the planet getting completely destroyed.

They could have fleshed this part out a bit more. Although with Episode 8 coming in 2017 I'm pretty sure alot of questions will be answered though.

And please, can we stop with this Snoke CGI is bad CGI? He's a hologram. Mostly covered in shadows. I'm pretty sure ILM (yes, the same fucking company who did Davey Jones) did a fantastic job.

That being said;
The art of The Force Awakens actually has some great stuff in it. Even the Anakin/Vader Force-Ghost part sounds great. Have him go back and forth (with and without cybernetics) from Anakin to Vader when he is talking to Kylo.

I don't even recall seeing the ships getting destroyed. Really excited for my second viewing.
