Destructoid's 2015 GOTY is...

That happens when you come out in a year with little competition, as opposed to 2015. GTAV was like the only competitor.
I don't agree that this is the explanation.

Critics and enthusiasts just liked it quite a bit above other games, no matter the quality of the runner's up. It also happened with Skyrim.

It's a good game too, i'm currently on the first playthrough. My only gripe is the maze like level design. A little bit too much backtracking and searching for my liking but once you find out where to go next the feeling of Joy is back full force and very enjoyable.

The art design is its best thing imo. No other game ressemble Bloodborne but Diablo but it feels awesome to play third person instead of isometric.

Well deserved. Congrats to Fromsoft, SCE JAPAN Studio and SONY.

Now, what are the odds of a Demon's Souls II led by Miyazaki From A team + SCE JPN once DS III and TLG are done ?

Managed to avoid all bosses and story excluding the Cleric Beast because it was in the trailers, just gotta keep waiting for a sweet PS4 deal then im jumping in.

TLoU destroyed the competition.
Memory failed me, because I thought it was a bigger difference. It's basically 90 vs 60 and if you add in several hundred more votes that can happen again. (In addition to the ever increasing amount of blogs that give out GOTY)

And everyone forget about Bioshock infinite.
Still amaze by Bloodborne level design, so good.

Have people really? This game is talked about more on gaf than any other I swear.

Can't wait for the 100th "Did we all forget Bioshock Infinite" thread.

That article was a wild ride to read 11/10 grats bloodborne!

TLoU destroyed the competition.

Nice to finally see Bloodborne/Souls getting recognition though in these awards.

When is all said and done, Witcher 3 will have a probably even bigger "destruction" level towards Bloodborne, or Fallout 4, Metal Gear, or any other game from 2015. And this is a year with actually some solid competition, unlike 2013.

Congrats to From and Sony :)

I thought that Witcher 3 was probably going to win the most Goty by far, along with MGS V, if only due to being Multiplats and BB being somewhat "niche" in its unabated appeal to "Hard mode" players, but I am glad it is at least getting some well deserved recognition.

BB is my undisputed GOTY 2015 ... such an amazing achievement in Gameplay, Wold Design, Sound/ Music and Ambance (no it's not a typo ;) ).

Lol, my thoughts as well

Tbh, I feel like GTAV would have pretty easily mopped the competition this year.
There's a story focused minimap driven openworld borefest every year no need for more. This year was Witcher's turn!

Also it's the third publication so far that's (rightly) awarded it to Bloodborne this year, no need to act surprised.

It's the only GTA game I've ever finished. It's fantastic.

Congrats to Bloodborne, my favorite game in over ten years.

It's the best GTA and the world is nice, but it's poor in terms of shooting mechanics, movement mechanics, development of characters(aside from Michael) and story. I don't love a lot of the mission design either, but to each his own. Perhaps "not good" is an overstatement, but it wasn't GOTY worthy and the media got it right that year anyway :p

Man they could've voted for LttP2, Wonderful 101, or Super Mario 3D World, but those games only win when there's a vacuum of western-developed narrative focused single player AAA games to award them, too.

Look forward to UC4 continuing the trend in 2016.

The story was definitely disappointing, but I've never played a Rockstar game with a solid narrative, including Red Dead Redemption.

The hard truth.

My opinion on the game is irrelevant to the point at hand (or yours). I'm talking about the games media.

You're probably right. The media would've given it GOTY just because of the name since it didn't disappoint many like a lot of the heavy hitters this year.(Batman, MGS, Fallout, Halo)

I'm still salty that Bayo 2 got snubbed and Shadow of Mordor got so many awards.

Like, mad salty. Shadow of fking Mordor.

Sad, but true. Look at Bayo 2 last year. Well, Edge picked it as GotY last year, at least. Pretty sure they'll go for Bloodborne as well this year. But yeah, Japan is often neglected.

I don't know if its good thing o bad thing, but certainly many websites have different games as their GOTY as opposed to the year TLoU won everything.

Im sure Destructoid is more credible than some of those... things on that blog.

No opinion is more credible than others.

No way. GTA V's missions felt boring, had lot of graphical issues on PS3, story was shit, its humor getting old and online was lacking. Now, if you had said Red Dead Redemption...
