I just got scared the shit out of me in Five Nights at Freddy's. Isn't there an actual game to it, like anything to complete? Or is it just a one-time scare?

Hexcells is awesome. But, is there any way to know what levels I completed with mistakes? I just finished the last level and my save says 96%, but I dunno how to tell which levels to redo.

It's too bad the Humble Monthly aren't available to purchase after they have been revealed because I would've bought this one.

Ok, so I can't get January's. Just subscribed, and that was my question. At least I got Alien Isolation though, installing now. Wanted to play that anyway, so $12 is a bargain plus I get some other goodies.

Has anyone played Papers Please?

On the level select screen, levels that haven't been completed will be a flat blue color and completed ones will look kinda shiny.

So i won Life is Strange Episode 1 and gave it a try.
Is this... supposed to be good?

From a technical standpoint it's horrible. The animations, mostly. And the faces, wow... Everyone looks like dolls.
Dead dolls.
I mean, if you want to make a game about emotions, try to put a little effort in your characters expressions. Every conversations looks like a puppet theater.
And all those characters are so cliché...
Does it get better, at least story/character wise?

I did, but in iPad. I don't know how the controls are in PC, but I've heard they're are better in iPad because of the multitouch and the actual feel of managing the papers with your own hands.
Anyway, the game is awesome, it's very tricky the first time and it proposes several moral questions. I recommend it.

I believe the levels you've done with no mistakes have a shiny look to the icon and it's more of a matte color if you finished with a mistake

So just look for the level number that looks out of place

Edit: beaten

it wins points for going about themes that you don't generally see in games and imo the relationship between max and chloe and the ability to see the different sides of people thanks to the rewind powers both feel very earnest and compelling.

also i really like hipsterish music and coming of age stories so those two things work for me

but i'd say it's got a lot of issues for sure

Just finished D4 Season 1. Not sure what to think about it.
Just when the story starts to pick up some steam it ends on a huge cliffhanger.

Still an interesting experience.

I also hate it when I finish a game before I get all the cards.

yes, but i saw all the movies about coming of age stories...
oh and the controls are awful too.
Maybe my hopes were too high for this one :/

I'm not so sure that's actually "better" for that game... The game is supposed to be a chore to play, that's part of the point. Well, that depends on what parts they streamlined for touch controls I suppose.

Holy SHIT the performance in Satellite Reign, fucking Unity man
I didn't realise it was Unity... How bad is the performance?

Unity seemed so great for a while there, when devs started using it. I really don't remember all these performance issues/jank from that early stuff, though perhaps I'm just misremembering.

unity has always been this way

it's an incredible engine in some respects but then it's so fucked up in others that it drives you crazy

Seeing how Vinny is absolutely in love with The Book of Unwritten Tales 2. Is it worth playing even if I haven't played the previous one?

45fps at the start where it's rendering nothing but a handful of low-poly buildings and my single low-poly agent... right down to 30-35 once I got out of the tutorial area

Turning down settings barely did anything. That's on a 6600K + 980

If there's no magical setting I'm missing I'll lock this fucker to 30 and see how much I enjoy it for an hour or two

Talking about Unity, shame that Freedom Planet 2 is using it :/ Would have preferred that they kept using the FP1 engine.

For people looking for 3D platformers, maybe consider CS:GO. There's some custom maps/servers where you go around doing weird platforming shit.

Thanks! Just finished it off. Awesome game -- glad I got the complete pack, as the original game is a bit easy.

The performance is shocking sadly. Though there is some suggestion that something in a recent patch is responsible in some part, people who were getting 60fps in 1.04 are getting junk performamce in 1.06...

Yeah this month I actually was interested in a good amount of the games. I realize the surprise/mystery is part of the whole thing but I'd like it if the "current" bundle were still available for 24 hours after it's unveiled.

Is it an inherent problem with Unity itself, or the devs not knowing how to use it well, though? I haven't heard performance complaints like that about games like Ziggurat, Ori, Sublevel Zero and I know from experience that Assault Android Cactus runs very well. It can't really be (only) the engine's fault if solid games can be made with it, can it?

It's a big issue with the engine itself, particularly in ambitious and large open games.

You can see this by how much improved Wasteland 2 and Dreamfall Chapters run after porting from Unity 4 to 5 despite looking better too. Unity 5 seems good so far but Unity 4 was a piece of shit for a lot of games.

The only game I'm surprised on your list runs well is SLZ, but I haven't played it. 2d games have always done fairly well in unity, and AAC and Ziggurat have small levels.

Finally thought of a new thread logo/banner for STEAM 2016

Thoughts?

Renowned Explorers: International Explorers is amazing so far.

So far I've:

  • Been told to check my privilege by a Witch Doctor
  • Successfully performed in a viking play
  • Punched out a slaver
  • Annoyed a Frenchman
  • Successfully convinced a group of ravenous Scorpions to change their way and leave me alone
  • Told such a bad joke that only one old lady laughed and that wasn't because it was funny
  • Haven't killed anyone as I'm able to excite/cajole/impress everyone to my side. Though I did compare someone to a frog for a debuff.
  • etc...
Thinking about picking this up.

Yeah, I would've been fine with this instead of just blind purchasing and hoping for the best.

it's a bit of both

unity isn't the greatest when it comes to exposing useful low level code so developers are left with the option of coding things like their own physics systems or working with the fairly unoptimized unity base

i really don't like unity for this reason, i'm no low level programmer but the way unity exposes its inner workings to you as a developer feels super arbitrary and it's really frustrating to work with

No black bars on that January banner?

Oh that's... wow. Far worse than I expected. Worst I've heard of is Dreamfall Chapters, which sounds like a technical trainwreck on SR's level.

Pillars of Eternity remains my benchmark for poorly-performing Unity games, that I've played at least. Static background, some 3D models, and the instant it throws in multiple particle effects my framerate tanks. I didn't have a great GPU playing it, but there was no reason for that performance when something like Dark Souls 2 looked and ran beautifully on the same hardware.
