Street Fighter V Roster Discussion |Thread 2| Deal with it & place your hope for DLC

http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2016/...om-japan-says-he-was-too-difficult-fit-story/
Famitsu: Speaking of Alpha, I feel as if the only Alpha character at this point who hasn't been in either SF4 or SF5 is Sodom. Did you guys just kind of forget about him?

Sugiyama: Haha, we have not forgotten Sodom. Sodom was one of the candidates we were considering from the Alpha series, but he was difficult to fit into the story. If we include Sodom, that also brings in the Mad Gear Gang. We also can't very well put Sodom in without having any of Cody, Haggar or Guy.

Also, since Sodom's lines are all mispronounced Japanese, writing his lines is a lot of work, which makes him hard to put in. Don't worry, that last part is just a joke, haha.

I'd be down for Wave 3 being...
  • Haggar
  • Guy
  • Cody
  • Sodom
  • Hugo
  • Poison
They can add Rolento in another wave, I suppose.
Hugo is from SF3 series, not from Final Fight. Let's include Rolento instead and let's forget Hugo even existed.

Btw, considering 2019 will be Final Fight's 30th anniversary I'd put the 4th wave as the Final Fight season.

How do you figure that? Ono himself used 6 DLC fighters a year to show how long it would take SFV's roster size to exceed IV's in an interview a while back.
Because in year 1 you're doing 22 total, w/ 10 of them being new or resurrected non-SF4 characters. I'm not sure 6/year is a fast enough rate after that initial burst.

I can't see much more than 8 though, logistically.
Hugo is from SF3, not from Final Fight.
lolol

Uh what?

So even if he's not imminent, there's a chance we might see Haggar down the road? It's going to suck learning to main one character, only to immediately drop them for Haggar, but that's the only way I see this going down.

You can just toss in Maki and Rolento. 6 is likely only for wave 1- you need more for future years.

Honestly, I'd be expecting it to be the other way around. I mean, I'd personally love to get Sagat, Akuma, Dudley, and all the expected characters, plus all the Final Fight characters, in a year or two, but I'm expecting that there'll be a trickle in subsequent seasons. Characters take time to make, and even more to balance. Especially if a lot of characters have already been made.

I could be wrong, though, and I'd personally love to be! I just think that 2017 is going to be dedicated to mainstays.

"Andore is from Final Fight, not Hugo. Yes, they're probably the same person (or Hugo is from that family) but they never confirmed that. It's that kind of situation where SF1 Mike and Mike Bison are probably the same person but they'll never confirm that."

Setting aside how silly trying to make that distinction is: Mike and Balrog have drastically different appearances, even in concept art. Andore (Hugo Andore) and Hugo have identical appearances.

But even if that weren't the case, Capcom has said they're the same character.

Hugo and Andore are the same character. The theory is that his full name is Hugo Andore.

SSIV Blog Q&A Session said:
Q: Are Andore and Hugo different persons? Please tell me.
A: They're the same person! Just a different name...sorry for the trouble!

EDIT: Gah. Beaten.

Same. I don't have the time to grind that much when I already got Blizzard games.
Granted, we'd lose the X-Men & the F4, but it would be a
somewhat
worthy sacrifice.

this is the second time Marvel's done an explicit Capcom reference after UMvC3's release
dare we dream?
More than the second time, actually. MvC was referenced in the cartoons a few times, was referenced in some variant covers, & received an official Earth classification in Spider-Verse.

We wouldn't, different license.
We would, Marvel enacted the X-Men/F4 ban after the release of Contest of Champions for all new games released after CoC (remasters & ports of older games are safe). Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch are the exceptions, but are only allowed on a case-by-case basis. For reference, neither Wolverine or Deadpool have been featured in a new game since CoC.

I mean, as far as MvC is concerned, we wouldn't even be losing the F4 themselves, just Doom, Super-Skrull, and Galactus. It'd suck losing them and the X-Men characters, but I think online play would benefit from losing Wolverine, anyway. Besides, it's not like Marvel can't put in those characters. It's just that they probably won't
outside of Deadpool
because Marvel's been trying to lock them out of all media because they're still bitter that Fox won't relinquish the movie rights for those franchises.

And yeah. It may usually just be subtle, but I'm pretty sure Marvel's made more references to MvC now than it ever did when the series was active. I don't take it as a sign, but it's a reason to have hope. Although Spider-Verse's MvC Earth had a different designation than the one in MvC3, so it's probably still dead for the foreseeable future.

EDIT: ... Twice in one day.

Actually, the MvC Earth was never given an official classification until Spider-Verse. The Earth-96169 classification was fan-given. The new one in Spider-Verse was the only one to be officially confirmed by Marvel.

Also, Deadpool is counted in the X-Men/F4 ban. Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch are the only two exceptions.

IIRC, it's toy/licensing rights, not movie rights. (at least for the X-Men side.)
It's actually Marvel not wanting the X-Men or the F4 to get more exposure than characters they can use in the movies (Avengers, Guardians, Inhumans, now Spidey, etc.).

I believe what Neoxon is implying is Marvel's shying away from using X-Men/F4 characters in their games, mostly due to Fox not playing ball with X-Men movie characters and crossovers.

And that's because they can't make any money off them due to the lack of merch rights.

I don't think they really care re: the movie-verse on that side. X-Men on their own ended up being for the best. F4 is a different issue.

As long as the X-Men/F4 characters are based on their comic book versions (or MCU versions in the case of the Maximoffs), Fox doesn't see a cent of the merchandising profits. It's more of Marvel pushing the characters they want the general public to know about. And sadly, it's working. There actually are kids who don't know who Wolverine or Cyclops are.

That's what I believe the issue was - Marvel wanted the movie character merchandising rights as well.

(probably should stop derailing a SF thread tho. :-P )

Good call. Either way, clearly Marvel must have been playing a lot of the Street Fighter V Beta.
