personally I think dreadlocks are godawful on anyone, black or white
 
Once every 100 years there comes the legendary WHITE MAN who is heralded by angels to wear the DREADLOCKS. However, there are many PRETENDERS who are unfit to wear the style...

They usually just look like unwashed stoners when I see them in the wild, so no. Theoretically someone out there could be pulling them off I guess.

Also bad for your hairline if too tight. Actually, that might only apply to braids.

I've seen some beautiful dreads in my life, damn near made me want to grow my hair.
 
No. I actually was watching a show the other day, and it had a white mom, kind of a hippy, with a massive dreadlock head, and all I could think of was why? I'm not a fan. It's their hair though and it's not about cultural appropriation to me, it's just weird seeing it on white people. Subconsciously I may be still affected by Jack Black in I still know what you did last summer.

This is also true. Aside from certain hairstyles not "jelling" well with certain people's facial features, I feel another key aspect is that white people may not have the knowledge or the friend/familial group necessary to properly maintain Dreadlocks.

Maybe not but his music would still stand. Regardless he can pull them off because he was legit.

I have no problem with anybody committing to them if they want.
 
I'm trying to grow my hair long enough to try and pull a manbun off, I don't think I'd get dreadlocks to be honest, never been a fan of them.
 
Had dreads when I was 13 until 16. I don't look back fondly on them.

I've seen some white dudes who looked pretty good with dreads, it depends I guess.
 
I'm black and I've had dreads for fifteen years. It doesn't bother me when I see them on white dudes. I once read that dreaded hair was common in parts of europe way back.
 
There was a guy that lived on my dorm hall in college who had red hair and dreadlocks. The entire dorm called him "Raggedy Andy." Just don't do it. Guys who can pull off the look are as rare as powerball winners.
 
The reason for mockery is the same reason someone with a mullet gets mocked. It's the kind of person who most often rocks those hairstyles that invite scorn. And with dreadlocks, everyone knows one. The guy who smells like 2 week old socks and weed all the time. The guy who talks about herbal remedies non stop. The guy who has a Che poster on his wall but knows exactly jackshit about him. The guy who plays bob marley songs way too loud from an old boombox while sitting in a park. The guy who sits on a street with his shitty friends begging for money and cigarettes because a job is "too corporate man". The guy who plays bongos poorly in public places because he doesn't even have the marginal musical talent required to be the 'douchebag playing guitar in public for no reason' guy. That guy has dreadlocks. You can't help but see him in everyone who has them and it forces an instinctual guttural disgust regardless of whether it's warranted.
