:(

You can really hear it in the album, and beautiful parting gif indeed.

RIP Star Man. Thanks for the awesome musical legacy you're leaving behind.

One of my favorite (we're talking in the top 5) musical acts of all time. The man was absolutely a genius in his own way. Pretty much his entire 70s output, from The Man Who Sold the World to Lodger ranged anywhere from "pretty good" to "this is a fucking masterpiece." Yes, this includes "low points" (that's what the critics say, anyway) like David Live and Young Americans. Even both of those albums are awesome.

RIP, Starman.
I haven't been a fan of his until recently, when I discovered his work, and he's already had such a profound effect on me.
His outlook is just so inspiring, and he kept me going during a tough time.
I'm way sadder than I thought I could be for someone I never knew, it's incredible.

I was planning on buying Blackstar soon, now I know I have to.

I always liked David Bowie growing up but never truly felt the connection to his music. Then I saw my favorite film, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, with his songs beautifully covered and featured throughout. When I heard Starman at the end I felt completely different about Bowie and he quickly became one of my most appreciated artists.

I think, of all the recent celebrities we've lost, this hits very hard because he contributed so much art to this world and he was just so different from anything else in my life. When I think of him now it really is difficult not to think of him as this beautiful future man who came from space to give us love in the form of his music.

RIP to a legendary human being and artist.

I am stunned by this news. I had no idea he was sick.

I saw Morrissey play in Los Angeles and during a song, Bowie came out to sing a surprise duet. It was one of the most amazing things I've heard in my life and it literally made me cry.

Damn Brian Eno said he and David were emailing recently talking about Outside and how they should do some more, then seven days ago he sent him an email saying goodbye.

Had to be terminal. He probably knew and asked for the album to be released ASAP.

What a way to go. R.I.P.

The release date of Blackstar was announced a few months ago though. He planned the album to be his farewell to the world but the death and album release happening a few days apart from each other is a coincidence.

Listening to "Station to Station" per someone's suggestion earlier. Really liking it and I've never been much of a Bowie fan. Gonna give "Blackstar" a try later.

RIP Bowie.

Not a good way to start the day.

Wasn't a big fan of his music, but no one can deny his impact on the music industry.

An interview on David Bowie's Earthling Album (1997) on the song's themes of belief and death.

David Bowie: "I guess the common ground with all the songs is this abiding need in me to vacillate between atheism or a kind of gnosticism. I keep going backwards and forwards between the two things, because they mean a lot in my life. I mean, the church doesn't enter into my writing, or my thoughts; I have no empathy with any organized religions. What I need is to find a balance, spiritually, with the way I live and my demise. And that period of time -- from today until my demise --- is the only thing that fascinates me."

Interviewer: "You're already thinking about your death?"

DB: "I don't think there's been a time when I haven't. It was ennobled with a romantic, cavalier attitude when I was much younger, but it was still there. Now it's measured with rationality. I know that this life is finite and I have to accept that."

I: "What's stopping you from believing in an afterlife?"

DB: "I didn't say I didn't. I believe in a continuation, kind of a dream-state without the dreams. Oh I don't know. I'll come back and tell you."

This is the only place I will admit to having had spent the last half hour in the office bathroom trying to pull my shit together enough to get through the day. I never thought I'd be sitting on a toilet crying over a dead musician. I'm a grown ass man.

Had a careful listen to Blackstar this morning. A fitting goodbye from a great artist.

Original is superior though
Yep.

Listening through Blackstar for the first time, sitting at my desk at work. Re-listening to the last track (probably my favorite), can't do anything but sit here with a thousand yard stare.
