David Bowie talks about performing “Heroes” at the Berlin Wall in 1987

He lived in Germany for a while, he said once it he needed that retreat from the UK and USA and that he loved his time there.
He was a big deal for there in the early 80s, I guess this is a good time to recommend Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo he has a part in this film (sort of a performance cameo and the film's OST is mostly Bowie), the movie depicts very well a generation of youngsters during that time.

I lucked out into finding a first US pressing of Ziggy Stardust a while back...playing that now, Diamond Dogs next.

Even the 1980 pressing of Ziggy I have is ludicrously priced on discogs. People are nuts.

not nuts, just greedy. I'm putting my complete discography hunt on hold for the next year or so... those prices will go back down after the fervor quiets down.

Been blasting every album of his I have, jamming with my kids. My son, who is now 12, always got sad at hearing Space Oddity, ever since I first played it for him back when he was 7, and today, after breaking the news, we both had a good cry together while we listened to it.

"I understand your point of view"
that's an extremely polite way to say that someone's opinion is bullshit. He was incredible.

Yup. And it's the truth...Bowie can't deride the interviewer in his own turf so to speak, and in a backhanded way 'I understand your point of view' is a slap to the face. A class act by Bowie.

The look of contempt on Bowie's face when they zoom in, you can see him thinking "You are off your god damned nut." Then he just nods his head and thanks him and you can tell he's just so done with that shit.

Me too, I managed to grab the Ziggy Stardust live LP and the Life on Mars? picture disc 7" on Discogs last night.

So Murder by Death finally released a stream for their recent Bowie cover which I had selected for them to do via kickstarter (http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?p=183183363). I've been wanting to share it without uploading it to youtube myself.

Take a listen, it's fantastic: https://murderbydeath.bandcamp.com/album/as-you-wish-kickstarter-covers-vol-2

I saw them open for Clutch a few times, what a great band, and thanks for the reminder that they did another round of covers. I think the wide array of bands that covered Bowie, the covers that he did, and the awesomely long list of collaborations he was involved in really show how magnificent his entire career was. I mean we're talking about easily 4 of my top 10 (The Pixies, TVOTR, Queen, The Arcade Fire) having worked with or been linked to him, who is also obviously in the top 10. When the hell has that even remotely happened before? The nearest thing I could imagine is something like a hardcore metal head (not being derogatory) and Dimebag appearances or something. Maybe MJ?

That amazing silent grin of contempt while the MTV shitlord uses the all-important Poughkeepsie demographic as justification

"Does that make sense?"

"...I understand your point of view"

Oof. Bowie carefully constructed a web of questions that led to an utterly ridiculous statement when taken as a whole in only 5 minutes. Damn.

I love that the camera man or director was obviously thinking at the end "Bowie's seething hatred of this idiot justifying catering to bigots deserves the entire frame"

Who else watched Labyrinth Today?

Was reading that David Bowie wanted the role of Elrond in Lord of the Rings, but Jackson didn't want such a recognizable face. That would have been something to see him in that role.

God damn right I did. Still upset they're making a second obe.

Not sure if anyone's aware, but Bowie was in the niche(cult classic) PS2 game Amplitude.

Uses clips in the background and everything. RIP, it was one heck of a track('Everyone Says Hi').

Dropped off Blackstar for my Dad, caught a tear as it went down his face. PLAYED IT COOL.
Went to my old room, looked up in my closet and found my Man Who Fell To Earth DVD and Best of Bowie DVD.

One tonight, the other tomorrow.

I regret never seeing Bowie live. Lou Reed too.

I really gotta shell out to see the Stones and Ray Davies. Can't take more legendary artists for granted

David Bowie got to do what pretty much no one ever gets the chance to do and that is go out on his own terms and while I'm incredibly sad about his passing, I feel a little better knowing that. It may not have been the time he wanted to go, but he definitely went out the way he wanted to.

Yeah. He made one last album, said goodbye to his friends, and then was able to let go. If I were to go, it'd be like that.

Big fan of David Bowie, but hadn't listened to the Blackstar album till today.

Lazarus is AMAZING. It sounds absolutely phenomenal on the headphones I bought (Fostex TH-X00).

Was going to grab Blackstar (actually that was the plan for the last few days was to head to a record store today pretty much specifically for that). Unfortunately all the copies were gone when I got there. I'll still grab it at some point, but Spotify will do now.

Listened to Blackstar on some good headphones today and I still love it. Also rode around town with Reality Tour blasting. I think I'm going to make it a point to get more into his work that I have been before. I've always loved Hunky Dory, Heathen, and Heroes, but have only kind of gotten into smatterings of other stuff here and there.
