Days before his death and he still rocked the suit.

Remembering Bowie: The Man, The Legend, The Sexual Abuser

Please try to have some empathy for those angry and being critical.

The last thing I want is to deify someone, because the reality behind the legend matters. But for various reasons that article is inadvertently bait to get banned. People want to mourn on this thread. I would venture to guess there should be another, complimentary thread, exploring things such as this, though I bet it still will become a minefield rather than an exploration of things.

I really appreciate when you post, and it's important to acknowledge when a hero figure did bad shit, but bringing up something incredibly controversial like past dismissed rape accusations during a mourning period for someone a whole lot of people love seems like a recipe for disaster and further poison people's attitudes about social justice on the web.

Accusations is the keyword here.

Yup. The first case they mention had Bowie cleared by a jury and the accuser said Bowie told her he was gonna give her AIDS (this was back in the 80s), which is ridiculous considering how much longer Bowie lived. The other case is an interview with a former teenage groupie from the 1970s who said she lost her virginity to Bowie when she was 15 and later became Jimmy Page's "girlfriend" at the same age. Super troublesome, but she talks about how much she loved it. Which is...weird. Things were different in the 70s, especially in the coked-up rock scene.

In case anyone wants it -- and I appreciate the... weirdness of the post, but maybe other people were in my situation and have been waiting for this boxset to be cheaper for almost 6 months now:

Deepdiscount.com has the FIve Years 13LP boxset available for $165, but you can also use promo code COZY15 to knock another 15% off.

https://www.deepdiscount.com/five-years-1969-1973/825646284092

Comes out to around $165 even with shipping and taxes included.

I don't need as I have most of this already. I can't afford. But did it anyways.

Thanks for the heads up.

The predictability of it is amusing to me, I suppose. I figure there's at least a few souls on OT who will share the writer's sentiment too. Edit: See, proven correct a handful of posts later!

On a side note, the naysayers always surface in the social media like clockwork in these kind of occasions. Seems like some people just want to show their discontent when people are paying homage to something.

One of the greatest musicians of all time and an icon. His new record is an unprecedented work of art and without a doubt one of his greatest. To record something like that when you know you're dying... what a magnificent and melancholic parting gift. Rest in peace, legend.

I'll never get the people who look at someone's passing and think, "how can I make this about me? And my agenda?"

We lost an amazing artist.

that recent 3-cd compilation bowie released sounds interesting. goes in reverse chronological order of his whole career. i think i might get that.

scust at only 3 songs off the berlin trilogy though.

Whole dissertations should be written regarding the impact of the 60's and 70's rock culture on rape and sexual assault.

But have some empathy and common sense, too, that we cannot possibly have this rational and important conversation right here, right now, in this thread.

I'm not trying to censor or "cancel out" anyone's posts, by any means. If anyone feels this is the right time and the right place, go for it and try to get the conversation started.

I simply don't see how trying to do it at a moment of weakness, mourning, and ultimately irrationality is productive.

I agree with one point of the posted article, 100%: Abused people shouldn't "wait" for their turn to speak. We should have started speaking about this yesterday. Not today, because someone died. Yesterday, because it's important. You diminish its importance by tying it to a person's death.

Pretty gross to post this. Accusation does not equal guilt. When the rape charges were brought before a grand jury, they were summarily dismissed and never presented again by the prosecutor. He also provided blood samples that proved he didn't have AIDS in the civil case. But I guess that doesn't matter.

What???? THE....FUCK!?

Dude was a legend even tho im not a big fan. Love "Everyone Says Hi" from Amplitude. He has so many hits, will be missed!!

Damn this sucks. RIP!!!! :(

Also if you really feel that strongly about it and somehow have actual evidence or proof no one else seems to have make a separate thread about it. At absolute best linking that in this thread is in incredibly poor taste. That "article" doesn't even have any actual substance to it either, clickbait at it's finest.

Oh, just fuck off! A guy died and instantly the wheels are in motion to make it about yourself and your cause. And based on nothing more than 30+ year old accusations, one of which was cleared in a court of law. What do you hope to gain from this? Please tell me what your end goal is in posting this?

Oh My God.

The packaging of the vinyl release of Blackstar is just sublime and chilling.

There are quotes everywhere, everything is black, somber, and reflective, and yet somehow peaceful. There's also a nice and big 20+ page booklet with lyrics and additional photos.

Easy to say in retrospect, I know, but it genuinely feels like a will now, a personal diary I maybe shouldn't have. It's weird.

Now that I think about this, this is the first ever artist that I loved that has died in my lifetime. They either died before I was born or are still alive.

Why'd you gotta die, you groovy motherfucker?
