Well, it is opposite for me. I thought that it was hip injury and they diagnosed me with leg injury.
Checking FB and there is a thing that I truly hate : pics of newborn kids with parents. This is so insanely popular here, they are putting poor kid into different outfits/poses and everything is so peachy on the images. Ugh.

been planning to finally watch this princess mononoke bluray any day now, after not seeing the movie in like 7 or 8 years. This is one of the movies that most greatly influenced me as a developing artist.

actually while studying I was listening to jazz covers of Ghibli soundtracks. it's what kept me alive.
Monoke had a huge impact on me too at the time. just haven't seen anything like it before (except maybe Nausicaä)

I've seen almost every ghibli movie. My top 3 are Princess Mononoke, Castle in the Sky, and Nausicaa. I am still waitign to see The Wind Rises and The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, which I hear very good things about.

Need to still watch Mononoke. I have some Ghibli movies, but they are a bit expensive. Probably this year tho.
Oh, yeah. I would say 95% of anime I've tried is bad news. Either it's lame or it wrecks its potential by pausing to offer "fan service" of which I can't say I'm a fan. It's just that the remaining 5% has sometimes really impressed me. Enough that I would label myself a casual fan of the medium.
Ghibli is definitely a good place to start. Ghost in the Shell, Gundam 00, Cowboy Bebop, there's a list here somewhere. Then there is the occasional lower-brow fight-to-solve-problems gig that I'll realize is actually fairly enjoyable to me. Hakusho, FMA. There are a few.
I don't know. I'm not a school setting fan and the moe thing creeps me out (mainly just because of how it's used, I guess). Slice of life doesn't compel me either. That alone slashed a solid 80% of anime off of my list.
I'm always going to be a much bigger fan of live action, but if the books I'm writing now ever get published and are popular enough to receive visual adaptations, animation is going to be necessary, I think.

You need to see it. While we can argue if it's the #1 ghibli movie (it's my favorite, personally), few will deny that it's at least one of the greatest.
Top 5 Ghibli for sure. Maybe top 3 if I really thought about it.

Spirited Away was what got me into anime as kid. Still one of the greats.
I own Paranoia Agent and Paprika. The others I've seen by Kon aren't worth my investment.

Probably, but they are not too easily available here either so my choice is effected by that. Right now I have Nausicaa, Kiki, Totoro and Castle in the Sky and have seen a couple of others.
Those are some of the greats you've got there, no question.

I want it to illicit the feeling of watching one of those movies, which doesn't just go to the animation and background style, but to doing things like coming up with shaders that subtly make it look like a film, maybe even a film with a slightly imperfect signal (I have nostalgic feelings for watching movies on shitty old tvs as a kid).

Check out Disney Movie Club. You sign up and get like 4 or 5 blurays/dvds for a dollar each, but you're committed to buy 3 full price dvds over the next 2 years. I got like 6 Ghibli blurays and I'm building my collection of them now. I think I found it from a gaf thread, but I forget.
