Gosh, that's heartbreaking.
It makes sense that we're having our coldest day of the year.
Watching those videos of people singing in London was really gut-wrenching, but I think a wonderful send-off for someone we all admired. It makes you wish we did this before he passed, but I think he knew what he meant to his fans.
Probably already posted. But Chris Hadfield did a homage to David Bowie. Its awesome.

Man, the pure drama surrounding his new album and his last gift to the world get to me even more today...I can't even think about it. This guy was such a huge part of my life. Man...Say what you will, all this is such a bummer.
Mr. Bowie sure made his passing an event that will be remembered forever. Mad genius and you can't blame him – what an artist! It's a little wonder (pun intended) we have Blackstar! That album will become more precious as time goes on.

I saw this live when I was a little kid and it was amazing. It was the first real exposure to "art" and it left a very good impression. Not just the puppet routine, but the performances with Klaus Nomi, wearing a skirt etc. It was all just unheard of on television at the time.
It all sent me a message that there are no limits and that art is beautiful!

The sentiment is nice. But it always irritates we when straight white men are called out for their 'privilege'. You can't help how you're born.

And beyond that, Bowie pretty openly claimed the bisexual label and took all the weight and negativity of what that entails. Given that he did experiment/have his phase/whatever you want to call it, and was willing to carry the weight of that label, AND intentionally performed as genderfluid, I don't think he had straight/cis privilege as she is claiming, and I think she is shitting on what a big deal it was to do any of these things before Bowie existed.

Sky Arts (UK and Ireland) has a series of programmes about Bowie on from 8PM until 1AM GMT tonight. I don't have it in my room but am recording them, will hopefully watch them Thursday maybe. Hope the BBC show their Five Years documentary again soon too, I saw it like maybe 2-3 years ago and found it mesmerising.
Five Years is on iplayer, they aired it yesterday. Sky Arts are showing the Reality Tour, it's amazing, especially if you've never seen it before.
BBC iPlayer doesn't work in Ireland.

Well, they are new. And Blackstar, in particular, stands up along side almost all of his very best work as well.

She was informed off-screen but they are still showing the aftermath, which is hugely disgraceful. "The Stardust Has Gone." To quote her. This is really uncomfortable and I feel so sorry for his family that they're exploiting this. His ex-wife Angie confessed secretly to a housemate that David was dead and told her repeatedly not to tell anyone but since there was a housemate called David on the show, the housemate misunderstood it as him and went around loudly announcing that David (the housemate) was dead. Even after being informed the truth, he worst part is that the housemate is refusing to take it back.

Going through the song credits on the LP, James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem makes an appearance. Awesome how Bowie collaborated with the biggest artists of today till the very end.
I just watched the ep, I was fucking appalled all the way through. Unbelievable.

Honestly, Blackstar is my favorite David Bowie song. I'm only an appreciator, not a super deep fan, but I know and have enjoyed his career. But that song, and the video, are seriously some very fine work. There's a lot there to chew on. In the context it was made, and with the video, it's just a stunning artistic statement.

Well, yes. He knew he was dying a year ago. It's quite clearly a goodbye.
He was originally going to co-produce the album but didn't in the end.
It was, confirmed by his producer.

I can say that I don't like Blackstar very much, but sure it does feel like it's way more that a song, almost a testament or even a work of art, is one of these pieces in which you can say that the artist put all his being onto it.
When I was hearing and watching the video (and Lazarus), all I could think "this reminds me of Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt and the videoclip", which is another incredibly powerful and personal song.
Oh wow I didn't know all that...will have to check out that cover.

I think he started planning it as soon as he knew. It explains why his "Is" exhibition started showing around the world in late 2013, almost entirely containing things from his own personal collection. Give people an opportunity to see it (and get enjoyment himself from people experiencing it) before he moves on.
Only realised that yesterday. If anyone here has the opportunity to see it I strongly recommend it.

I've been watching Lazerus on repeat and jesus is it beautiful. The opening scene is so somber and weird, then he when gets us and dances It reminds me of the bowie. The Bowie he still was and is. The whole thing is like his last dream. He really was one of a kind. That quote about being lucky to be alive while Bowie was doesn't even begin to show how lucky . There never will be again. Ahead of his time. Gorgeous. Unique. Goodnight.
