So it's "the next day"...
Waking up in a post-Bowie world is exactly as bleak and depressing as I feared it would be.
I just purchased a few on iTunes (Low & Ziggy Stardust) and I am truly in love
Gosh, that's heartbreaking. The cast of Lazarus recorded the soundtrack yesterday. Must've been so hard.

was too young for this. but now I must wonder if my parents witnessed this...
How Bowie flaunted a huge dick on Saturday Night Live and nobody noticed
the video is gone from the page, but its still here in this article..
David Bowies 1979 SNL appearance was an artistic fuck you to convention

Irritated that everything in life has to be scrubbed for intersectionality value, but don't know what to say to my FB acquaintance about her post. Probably going to just leave it.

And beyond that, Bowie pretty openly claimed the bisexual label and took all the weight and negativity of what that entails. Given that he did experiment/have his phase/whatever you want to call it, and was willing to carry the weight of that label, AND intentionally performed as genderfluid, I don't think he had straight/cis privilege as she is claiming, and I think she is shitting on what a big deal it was to do any of these things before Bowie existed. The sentiment is nice. But it always irritates we when straight white men are called out for their 'privilege'. You can't help how you're born.
Sky Arts (UK and Ireland) has a series of programmes about Bowie on from 8PM until 1AM GMT tonight. I don't have it in my room but am recording them, will hopefully watch them Thursday maybe. Hope the BBC show their Five Years documentary again soon too, I saw it like maybe 2-3 years ago and found it mesmerising.
BBC iPlayer doesn't work in Ireland.Five Years is on iplayer, they aired it yesterday. Sky Arts are showing the Reality Tour, it's amazing, especially if you've never seen it before.

For Finnish GAF, YLE also added Five Years, The Reality Tour and Ziggy Stardust: The Director's Cut up for streaming:Five Years is on iplayer, they aired it yesterday. Sky Arts are showing the Reality Tour, it's amazing, especially if you've never seen it before.
Was he even "straight"?
EDIT: Nevermind, see someone has put it far better than me a few posts above.

Really interesting that his top 5 most listened to songs included Lazarus and Blackstar.
Big Brother going to start now and I believe they're going to be telling David Bowie's ex-wife about his death.
She was informed off-screen but they are still showing the aftermath, which is hugely disgraceful. "The Stardust Has Gone." To quote her. This is really uncomfortable and I feel so sorry for his family that they're exploiting this. His ex-wife Angie confessed secretly to a housemate that David was dead and told her repeatedly not to tell anyone but since there was a housemate called David on the show, the housemate misunderstood it as him and went around loudly announcing that David (the housemate) was dead. Even after being informed the truth, he worst part is that the housemate is refusing to take it back. All the more reason not to watch it, the exploitative vultures.
They're your Heroes. Thanks for the story. I also took my nephew under my wings to show him the awe of music. He has become a kick-ass guitar player and I'm damn proud.

Honestly, Blackstar is my favorite David Bowie song. I'm only an appreciator, not a super deep fan, but I know and have enjoyed his career. But that song, and the video, are seriously some very fine work. There's a lot there to chew on. In the context it was made, and with the video, it's just a stunning artistic statement.Bowie stats on Spotify from yesterday. http://www.nme.com/blogs/nme-blogs/...-he-died?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social

Well, yes. He knew he was dying a year ago. It's quite clearly a goodbye. Was Blackstar from scratch intended to be his last hurrah, I wonder. The theme of Lazarus is... ominous.
Going through the song credits on the LP, James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem makes an appearance. Awesome how Bowie collaborated with the biggest artists of today till the very end.
It was, confirmed by his producer. Was Blackstar from scratch intended to be his last hurrah, I wonder. The theme of Lazarus is... ominous.
love thisWoke up to the awful news that my lovely friend David Bowie passed away. I am so deeply sad, but he just completed a radical and audacious new album, and that is a great thing. Personally I am grateful to him for doing it.
For those who were his fans he was a charismatic and exotic creature and still gloriously beautiful even as he approached 70. But face to face he was funny, clever, well-read, excited by the arts, and really good company.
In a Japanese restaurant we once ate tiny live crabs sent over to our table by a businessman fan. David said we must try, out of courtesy. I wouldn’t have done it with anyone else on the planet. Delicious, of course.
He was simply a joy to be around, so good at making everyone feel at ease. I’m sorry to hear it was cancer that got him. I knew he had been ill for several years but didn’t know the details. My thoughts now go to his family and close ones, and to so many of his fans who will be beyond distraught today. We have lost a monumental figurehead of the British arts scene. We have also lost a wonderful clown whose combined sense of mischief and creativity delightedly touched our hearts. David Bowie was my Salvador Dali. He was also one facet of my perfect Ace Face.

I've been waiting to hear Davey Havok's reaction as he is the reason I'm interested in Bowie in the first place. He was such an influence on Davey in many facets of his life and their connection and similarities and AFI's cover of Ziggy Stardust was a bridge for discussion between my mother and I (she was a Bowie fan) just as Bowie's collab with Bing was a bridge to her own parents.
Edit: So he did say something but the Twitter app won't load for me on mobile.
Billboard said:The late David Bowie is heading for his first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 albums chart with Blackstar.
The set, which was released through ISO/Columbia Records on Jan. 8 (Bowie's 69th birthday), could sell perhaps 130,000 albums in the week ending Jan. 14, according to industry forecasters, and debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart dated Jan. 30. Bowie died on Jan. 10 after an 18-month battle with cancer.
I stole this from Fred Sablan's Facebook page, thanks Fred- what an amazing photo, taken by Jimmy King- the last pic of David Bowie, Jan 8 2016... His birthday, just a few days ago. I mean, who goes out with this much fucking class? I'm moved and stunned and sad and yet happy looking at this photo, I think it's just incredible. I think I might need it on my wall at home as a constant reminder of how to live.
"I don't know where I'm going from here, but I promise it won't be boring.“ RIP David Bowie
This is their first time covering it. It's an acoustic rendition with some comments about Bowie beforehand.Oh wow I didn't know all that...will have to check out that cover.
I think he started planning it as soon as he knew. It explains why his "Is" exhibition started showing around the world in late 2013, almost entirely containing things from his own personal collection. Give people an opportunity to see it (and get enjoyment himself from people experiencing it) before he moves on.He knew he was going to die, so he had time to plan it.
God damnDavid Bowie was my Salvador Dali.

Gaf is usually off limits to myself after I've been drinking/smoking but
I've been watching Lazerus on repeat and jesus is it beautiful. The opening scene is so somber and weird, then he when gets us and dances It reminds me of the bowie. The Bowie he still was and is. The whole thing is like his last dream. He really was one of a kind. That quote about being lucky to be alive while Bowie was doesn't even begin to show how lucky . There never will be again. Ahead of his time. Gorgeous. Unique. Goodnight.
By the time I got to New York
I was living like a king
Then I used up all my money
I was looking for your ass
Lazarus is such a good song. It's constantly on for me when I go on Spotify.
There's something about that verse that gets me every time. Chills every time I hear Lazarus.
I think I'll go buy Blackstar sometime this weekend
