Wonder Woman - First look

Looks great.:D

Also, I'm pretty disgusted by all the skinny comments. You guys enjoy bodyshaming people?

Seems a lot of people have gotten very used to the hyper-amazonian design of WW. It would pose even more unrealistic standards to seek out that body type. It's hard enough for women to bulk on mass without steroids, I see no problem using a feminine figure that displays heroic strength. It gives a hero to young girls too.

Am I missing something? I know that superheroes ate put under the silliest and most bizarre of scrutinies. But I flat out don't understand this one. Why is her riding a horse somehow bad? Because she can fly? I mean, yeah, but have you ever ridden a horse? They're awesome. My being able to fly wouldn't stop me from riding a horse.

Bruv have you ever even flown before? A horse don't even compare.

But that wasn't your argument. Your argument was that it wasn't believable. Everything else you seemed fine with, except that.
Yes. Does Heracles/Hercules fly? It also makes other league members like Green Lantern look more of a joke than they already are. Shit even Aquaman and Cyborg can fly for some reason. Batman already looks out of place in a fight with Doomsday. Now that everyone can fly and shit? LOL

Same. The guy in the video even said she's been training her whole life, and she's the best warrior of her people.

I'm still going to watch the movie.

I might still give it a go, but it's disappointing to be sure.

She's the best warrior as the Greek gods gave her that ability. It isn't as though she had to work and train so hard like Batman the regular human has to.

You could say the same about Superman and he's crazy built still. Don't get me wrong, I'm not asking for a bodybuilder here. I would just like her to actually look intimidating and capable of carving more than splinters off with that sword of hers. I've got bigger biceps than her and I'm 8 months of pregnant noodle.

A little dirt and grime and blood from her fallen foes should fix that right up.

It would help, but her build just struggles to fill that armor. I wish her luck because no doubt she's been training for ages to try her best and actually own the role, but she's just leagues away from what I was hoping would finally be a capable-looking female superhero and not just eye candy. Rousey might not be the best actress out there yet, but damn the girl has the presence and power to back up her roles.

I don't think we're ever going to find out why Gal Gadot was cast in the first place. I also wonder if we're actually going to hear her speak before BvS is released.

Beautiful, somewhat known, and...dark haired? :( Maybe I'm just being cynical, but that seems to be all the criteria that casting/execs want for their female action heroes. Where's my Grace Jones, Rousey, or Biel in Blade?

Granted its only a month's worth of footage, but this is what I was worried about with the movie. She looks way to feminine when she fights.

I see.

Wonder Woman's abilities in the DCEU have been brought up before a few times. Flight was mentioned once by Gadot and she only said this: “She has unbelievable endurance. She is exceptionally strong. She can jump really high and practically fly. She know tons of martial arts styles. She is a strong and serious woman.”

Are we going to get any of the bdsm elements from her creators original comics is my question hehe

Ugh.. why the scenes itself look really good I'm already annoyed with the tint/filter they are using.. that was one of the biggest problems of MoS already for me.. Way to steal any amount of color from the movie.

You know who they should have gotten? That chick from John Carter. She has a great physique for WW. Would be waaaay better than Gal.

That actress is a beautiful woman, but couldn't act at all. I think Gal is going to overcome her lack of bulk by nailing the role as compassionate and a badass.

And she is totally channeling Lynda Carter in that glasses scene.

It just looks like it's in the same vein as Superman, but a lot less well known. I'm assuming WW does more than kick and punch at some point?

It is nothing like Superman which rehashed the same fucking stories over and over. I like the new direction. It is something different. I loved when they did the Captain America period pieces.

Also, as far as her abilities. I'm sure they will be sparse, but they also won't be able to show any real special effects until much later in production.

?

Superman didn't bomb, and it's pretty clear that by this point, the public's previous familiarity with a superhero doesn't mean shit in regards to box office performance. And that's ignoring the fact that even if people don't know specifics about Wonder Woman, she's pretty damn recognizable. And that's while also ignoring her history as a feminist icon.

So, is the casting director going to be hired ever again after this? Who thought choosing an "actress" that looks nothing like WW and acts worse than a wooden table (look at those fantastic facial expressions in the OP gifs. Oh wait it's just one, and it's absolutely terrible. Or just look at that Furious movie she's in, for a better example) was a good idea? If you're going to choose somebody who can't act just because she looks like the character, then choose someone who actually looks like her.

It looks like the next Taylor Swift video, featuring Taylor Swift cosplaying Wonder Woman. I guess the market isn't ready for a bulky muscular woman lead? Well it's not like this is going to make more money anyways.

This looks so bad I almost want to stop liking the character. To think there are actual actresses out there stuck with shitty roles.

It's an actress portraying a role. Instantly jumping to body shaming is a pitiful method of shutting down discussion. Anyone in a profession where they're expected to be a certain way, within reason, should be open for criticism. A fat athlete is going to get criticized as much as someone playing a fat character who is skinny.

Now I know you're probably going to go to the really weak "She's magic!" or "It's impossible for a women to develop muscle". See Terminator 2. See GI Jane. See Blade Trinity. No, it's not impossible. And no, it doesn't require you to start out an athlete or bodybuilder, or whatever people here seem to think you need to be because they have no idea what they're talking about

I like the look of those gifs. If you get a comic book movie right visually, that's half the battle won. But movies these days struggle so much with plot and character, it's not actually saying much.

So DC's doing a Captain America with Wonder Woman it seems. Not so sure about this yet, she looks a bit out of place in her costume when fighting Nazi's, will have to see more before I judge it too much though.

The only scene I can really judge her "acting" is the mirror scene, and she's coming off charming as hell.

For some reason i feel this is going to be an actual period feeling movie, like a very long engagement or something. And not a faux period one where tonally they mix and match shit, like MGSV or something.

It's a criticism, it's not always shaming. Her body is fine, just not for the part of WW

She looks too skinny for what the general norm is for WW, she looks like she can hardly carry that shield...I didn't like her for the role from day one.

Unfortunately there is a lack of actresses that could pull the role, and actually act.

This has bomb written all over it.

Yes. From everything I see right now, I have a hunch it's gonna be a bomb. Get over it.

How do you feel about these posts? Do you feel good about what you've contributed to the thread?

People aren't demanding that you conform to their opinion of the footage but they do expect you to at least be able to logically explain why you think, after seeing less than 90 seconds of footage, it will be a disaster at the box office.

But rather than offer a reasonable reply to your initial shitty post you just came back with "I have a hunch" which is the most moronic way of replying to any argument.

Were you willfully trying to make yourself look this bad or did you jump into this thread with both feet without realising that people would expect you to explain this baffling first post of yours? A case of acting without thinking?

Are those Germans or what? Because if so it seems weird to me that Wonder Woman would enter the world of man just to pick a side in the war. Why does one side need more protection than the other? I hope I'm wrong here.

Also the choreography looks alright but it has some of the worst of Snyder-style slow-mo. For all my grievances with Man of Steel at least I liked how the fight scenes weren't pointlessly slowed down like in parts of Watchmen and 300.

A lot of complaints in this post but I am still really excited to see how this movie turns out. Wonder Woman is such a great superhero who hasn't really had the chance to earn some pop culture impact since the 70s.

What the fuck did I just read

I hope Gadot's acting is up to snuff. She seems okay in the few bit and bobs I've seen her in but eh. The scenes they showed looked pretty good though. Plus more Pine is always good in my book.

Couldn't really sit through the whole video. Doesn't look bad, really. Just doesn't really grab me. I think it has a lot to do with the time period and aesthetic they're going for. And the way they were trying to sell it (I didn't watch an actual trailer if there is one, I just saw the thing with Kevin Smith), I was cheesed out by it.

Movie is coming in 2017. Not really much you can get about the quality from this footage.

This is like when game companies release super early gameplay footage and everyone complains about it looking rough and ugly... then wondering why more companies don't do it.

They probably picked some of the most basic scenes because don't need to do much post work to it.

Also reason I imagine focused on the more "Grounded" stuff and nothing mythical or magical.

Video sucked any shred of hype I had left in me for this movie. World War 1 era Wonder Woman. I want nothing to do with it. Also Gal Gadot still sucks. Wonder Woman looking like a runway model. Fuck this whole production.

It looks fine so far, but the green/blue color grading is way too intense right now. Hopefully they tone it down some. The one scene with her looking in the mirror with the glasses looks good though (color-wise).

I liked Gadot in the F&F movies as 'the quiet and extremely competent' one in the crew. When they have this track set up in FF5 to try to beat the cameras she gets closest to nailing it and in FF6 she also is the only person in the whole movie to shoot at someone and actually hit. With a pistol at a guy fleeing on a motorbike no less.

How exactly Gisele went from a henchwomen for a druglord to a trusted member on the team is a bit unclear but that's hardly her fault. I think she'll do fine as Wonder Woman.
