ahahaha

I hope she gets help from a therapist.

She is/was seeing a psychologist and a doctor about it. However I find it so odd that she couldn't reach the conclusion on her own, it is literally unbelievable to me that she wasn't aware of furry and otherkin but tells straight out the her best friend have multiple personality/head personas sharing his mind (there was a term on tumblr for this that I can't remember anymore...)

The cat language demonstration seems like bullshit mostly because of her hesitation and tone of meow which was pretty unrealistic to the other ones, but I don't doubt that the two of them can work out the meaning of some meowing via context cues.

A really odd detail to me is that she says she reacts to sounds, but there are bells in her cat ears, maybe they lack the thing producing the sound?

Anyway, as long as she is comfortable and happy about herself let her have at it.

I don't understand, her body is still human but she claims to be able to see in the dark better and such?

She said she's never been able to catch a mouse in the dark.

Her cat reflexes and night vision are shit.
All good though, I can attest to her cat language skills being on point.

Being gay and thinking you are another animal are totally different things.

Homosexuality is a natural think that exists in nature. There's nothing weird with it or unnatural about it. Their reality isn't distorted like it's the case here.

This women things she can see better in the dark than in the light. That's a delusion. It's a mental illness. And it isn't comparable with being gay.

The fact that people were intolerant of gay people or transphobic doesn't make claiming you have the senses of a cat suddenly okay. And insinuating that is kinda insulting frankly.

Yeah, and my parents believe that they're literally drinking blood and eating flesh when they take communion. Tons of people believe in the power of prayer. Having factually incorrect beliefs doesn't make you delusional or mentally ill. The question is whether you're hurting yourself or others by your irrational belief - and the only way she's hurting herself is because of dickweeds giving her shit for it.

But again, it's not so much about her as it is about you guys - about what your instinctive reaction is when you're confronted with weirdness that, as they say, neither breaks your arm nor picks your pocket. If it's harmless, but stupid/not justifiable/ even untrue, what's your reaction? this thread doesn't make me optimistic that we've gleaned the deeper lessons we should have from the struggle for gay rights.

I honestly think the world is too liberal nowadays :lol

Everyone wants to be something unique or different so they do shit like this and they get attention and then you get people saying it's acceptable. Madness.

+1
Humanity is so dumb already that we promote illness. This girl has serious issues caused by the drive of being special and ugh.

I'm sure you're all in a perfect position to make fun of someone for something they probably can't help.

Moraliser spotted. Gtfo of a board, if you can't handle people criticising others. That's how humanity evolved in the first place.

Love that Comment:

Lmao!
Also the guy in the vid with his middle finger, thanks.

I know right.

People even give me shit just because I sexually identify as an Apache attack helicopter.

How can people not accept this?!
People are all bigoted in this world. We should accept all kind of humans which are actually Dogs, Cats, Pokémon, Anime, Tables, Toilets, Potatos and don't even try to treat this like a mental illness because HOW DARE YOU.
"bigot" and all kind of its conjugations, declinations and inflections for being the most overrated word 2015 and still going strong

I was surprised to see the NRK logo, being the Norwegian National Broadcasting. No, it doesn't work in English.

Considering this is a publicly funded broadcaster, the lack of any actual journalism with consulting specialists or other sources got me wondering.

NRK is huge, multiple channels on both TV and Radio. This is apparently made for a radio show/podcast on P3 (mainly known for it's younger target audience and used mostly as a music station) called "Verdens Rikeste Land" (The Worlds Richest Country) which hardly seems serious at all. The thumbnail shows a couple guys lounging, trying to channel a hipster vibe or something. And they give their mailbox address with the reason "in case you want to send us something, like Urge." That's the soda-pop/fizzy-drink Urge.

TL:DR; This is either a hoax or making fun of a person with a mental illness. I'm guessing it supposed to be a joke, we all know cats don't say "meow meow meow" when they want to go. They'll just start scratching the door, perhaps with a repeated, singular "meow".

I'm not so sure it's supposed to be a joke, I've never listened to the show personally but their "about is" page reads:

"Mandag til torsdag klokka 15 kan du henge med Niklas og Mathias i Verdens Rikeste Land på NRK P3. Vi tar tak i dagens store saker, får interessante gjester, graver i sportens rare verden og oppdaterer deg på siste nytt."

Which translates to:

Monday to Thursday at 3pm you can hang with Niklas and Mathias in 'Worlds Richest Country' on NRK P3. We deal with the days major events, host interesting guests, dig through the strange world of sports and update you on the latest news.

They don't seem to be a primarily comedy show. I'm sure this was meant as a bit of a funny curiosity, but I don't think it's a parody or sketch. If anything the very real awkwardness of the friend-zoned guy should convince you of that.

Again, context. The context of religion and how it has been passed on generation after generation makes those believes accepted. If taken out of context they sound crazy but being educated a certain way makes you believe that.

It's, again, not comparable to a women thinking she can see in the dark. That's a delusion.

Thinking every mental illness is a phase or doesn't exist is more harmful than just blaming people for being intolerant. You are putting things out of context to accuse people of being intolerant when what she is saying has no ground in reality.

Being delusional shouldn't be encouraged.

Apparently she's seeing a therapist so the delusions might be affecting her daily functioning enough to seek help.

It'd help her case to be tolerated more if she developed this during puberty and felt this all her life internally before she ever got into anime or the internet.

I don't think it's fair to infer that comments in this thread about a video in which someone has said they are literally an animal born into a human body give any indication of a poster's feelings towards gay rights.

A human's natural reaction in this day and age to "weirdness" as you even put it is usually the same. Say you introduced Christianity as a new religion now, do you not think people would react in the same way?

I think the parallel you are drawing regarding tolerance is fair enough, I just don't think this particular example/video/subject and thread is the right example to be drawing it if that makes sense. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the point you're making

If the person believes they are a cat and have special cat powers, they are not role playing or a furry. They are unwell, and so maybe giving them television interviews for other peoples amusement seems a little harsh.

I wish I had half the confidence of those guys.
Usually when Im confronted with wierdness, I just try to ignore it but sometimes its really hard.

Is this one of those delusions disease when kids imagined themselves to be a cool superhuman/dragon/stuff?

For some reason it reminded me of a pokemon episode where children where under hypnosis and were behaving like magikarp, caterpie and shit.

Adult cats are not that vocal in general and do not communicate via meowing with other cats like that often. Do your damned research if this is so important to who you are.

Thst said otherkin are harmless and should be left to their own devices most of the time. If they aren't causing trouble and can care for themselves then what do people care?

I Do think some members of the community need psychiatric help but it's impossible to know who's just playing along to be accepted and who needs actual aid to make sure they can continue to function safely and healthily.

Oh man Otherkin, i just can't take it seriously at all.
I feel like because we've become so understanding as a society, supremly selfish individuals and/or those with some mental issues take advantage of peoples acceptance.
It doesn't help this sort of impressionable idiot flock to echo chambers like Tumblr and just perpetuate this shit.

The worst thing is there is a defence force for everything and i could see in 10 years i'm working in a world like a cartoon, where sophie down the hall is dressed as a cat and shouldn't be discriminated against

it will be at that point i'm begging Nasa to send me on the Mars mission

Unfortunately some people are mental and we shouldn't be accepting, we should be medicating and/or sectioning

I'd used to bug at my dog growing up, get him to howl by imitating a few sounds myself but this is...

I hope her boyfriend, if he sticks around, is prepared for the therapy train.

Damn, I was under the impression that humanity evolved through science and governance, not through making fun of weird people.

I am sorry, but it could be argued that it's an integral part of human society that makes sure the social pressures for societal homogeneity are well in place.

I don't see what evolution of science or governance could eliminate humans criticizing fringe beliefs, I don't think that will EVER go away.

It's a shame that mentally ill people are used for entertainment purposes.

It is not like delusional people have only appeared with the internet. People who have worked in mental hospitals can tell you all sorts of stories.

As for the guy, damn...the thirst must be real.

And both of those things happen to have being able to handle criticism as one of their core tenets. :P

Criticism ≠ ganging up and throwing slurs and insults at someone with a mental condition. Sure it's happened before but it's not constructive and does not 'contribute to the evolution of humanity.'

I'm unable to see the video at the moment, but she was obviously still raised like a human, conforming to our norms. It is only natural that large parts of her behaviour involves elements of human society.

On a more serious note, I think it's interesting to see where we draw the line for which identities are deserving of consideration and respect, and which can be dismissed and ridiculed. I guess the biggest differentiator is volume. The more people you have amongst your ranks, the more acceptable your interpretation of living "authentically" becomes. Has there ever been done a proper study on these furry/otherkin folks'?

If there's a study, I'd be interested in reading it too.
To make myself clear: it's not so much that I want to ridicule her; she's obviously sick. It just angers me, because I respect her as a human being, not as a cat.
