Cat trapped in the body of a 20 year old Norwegian girl.

In the end, if it makes you happy and you aren't hurting people, a person's happiness is MORE of worth than the insecurities of someone else.

It could be argued she isn't happy (she didn't really look it but that could be down to camera/sensing or knowing she could be being ridiculed). She could also be causing herself harm too, in the short or long run. I'm going to assume she has had various tests etc in order to rule out anything physical causing this delusion and that it does in fact stem from a firmly held belief that she has.

The question is how much do you try to address people's mental health or whether you don't intervene on the basis of a lack of harm to herself or others. She does seem to be living a normal life outside of her self-identification, she doesn't seem malnourished, and she seems presentable, social, and well kempt. However these things can change very quickly, especially during a transitory time like her 20s

Furries man...

I would feel fairly certain in assuming she is doing this as a coping mechanism, and likely whatever she is using this to cover up is enough to cause someone to revert and/or move into a different state of mind completely.

If you shatter someones bubble like that, I feel it could very well result in suicide.

I don't mean just let her go through her whole life as a cat, but at the least comfort her in it and allow her to express herself.

Idk maybe im looking way too into it.

I cant tell if that video is serious or not.

I genuinely burst out laughing when she hissed at the dogs and brought out the paws. :D

Edit Finished it. No way is this serious. Its amazing. :D

I kind of have an issue with people who live their lives like this. I mean it's up to you if you want to waste your life, it just makes me sad. You're not living in the real world, you're not functioning as a normal person, and you need help, not encouragement.

I'm glad she at least mentions that she has a psychologist.

Can this be called a psychiatric disorder?

Hard to say. Possibly. I have a degree in psychology but I would never call myself a psychologist, that requires lots of post-grad study.

That said, it seems to me that this is just an act she puts on to get attention, feel more secure, and feel like she has a place in the world. She clearly associates with like-minded people that reinforce and validate her actions.

I don't think there is anything biologically wrong with her though. She just needs a lot of therapy.

You made me pull out my DSM-5 out of curiosity. Unless her being a cat resulted in body issues involving weight or appearance, you could theoretically look into some sort of body dysmorphia.

However, she doesn't present any of the more notable traits aside from dressing up like a cat. If she started getting plastic surgery a la Lizard Man, then we'd be having a dymorphia discussion.

It's certainly difficult, intervention could go a number of ways. I know what my dad (GP/ special interest in mental health/sections people as part of extra work) would be doing, and that would be to address the issue over time, not sure how he would approach this but I may ask him next time I speak to him (he usually has some interesting cases). I certainly don't think any health professional would leave this well alone though

This is a parody on transsexualism and not someone really believing she's a cat, right? If I'm wrong, I wonder if she thinks she should have human rights or just the rights a cat usually has...

Nah I bet she's this delusional. Doesn't help that you have garbage communities that encourage this kind of shit.

It's so unfortunate the Youtube comments were disabled. I'm sure surely this time, humanity would have approached this with respect.

I don't know where I stand on helping people who are happy in their delusions but I want to understand mentally ill people and help when I can.

I will go ahead and say it: where do we draw the line between transgender, transethnic, and transspecies (and any other trans- that I'm not aware of). Honest question.

I'm unable to see the video at the moment, but she was obviously still raised like a human, conforming to our norms. It is only natural that large parts of her behaviour involves elements of human society.

On a more serious note, I think it's interesting to see where we draw the line for which identities are deserving of consideration and respect, and which can be dismissed and ridiculed. I guess the biggest differentiator is volume. The more people you have amongst your ranks, the more acceptable your interpretation of living "authentically" becomes. Has there ever been done a proper study on these furry/otherkin folks'?

Er, I think the biggest difference is that what these people claim is literally impossible.

A species is the sum of its parts, divided along reproductive success. All humans have gender and genetics aren't perfect. But humans do not code for the unique amalgamation that is a cat. Maybe she is trans, but her decision to identify as a cat has come from external influences. She is not a trans-cat.

Which ones are situations that could actually be explained by science, and which ones aren't?

There you go.

I say fuck it, there is no line. If you think you are actually a cat then more power to you. As long as you can reasonably function in society then be whatever you want to be.

Also, this. Any reasonable person will know her claims of better hearing, better vision, etc. are likely bullshit. Without any evidence to support "cat born in human body" condition this amounts to nothing more than a lifestyle choice and should be accepted and accommodated as such and nothing more.

Trans people on the other hand have a lot of science and precedent on their side so they should be fully accepted and accommodated as the gender they identify with.

Although this is fundamentally different to being transgender. My personal belief is to let people be what they want to be as long as no one is being hurt (including themselves).

Can't this be explained by science (psychology)?

And if the standard for this stuff is that it's ok as long it doesn't make them unhappy, what's the rationale to condemn cat girls?

How the fuck does she sleep in the sink.

I mean, I kinda see how it might work for the windowsill but C'mon

She doesn't, she's lying.

Doubt she's mentally ill, just delusional

I... didn't expect that :p

But yeah, there's loads of people with these unusual lifestyles. It's like constantly in docs in the UK. I dunno, I don't find it weird.
