The Division Beta Thread: Make Manhattan Great Again

But hard enemy's don't necessaries mean depth of combat. I was hoping for more class specialisation style gameplay.
E.g. One player dressed in heavy combat amour that can take a crap tone on damage + draw fire while another specialises as a medic or sniper etc...
However, at the moment it seems like everyone can learn / maybe max out every skill.

uh, yes everyone can do everything. but not at the same time and not specialized.

a tank with the shield for example will set himself up with tons of health

a healer will raise his "skill" Rating to increase his heals

a dps will increase his firearms

and then you got the inbetweens to unlock the talents on the guns that require certain amount of stats.

Just because you don't Need to specialize early on doesn't mean you don't have to later.
or even if you don't HAVE to later, it will probably still make everything way easier.

my friend for example is gonna go tank and i'll go healer/buffer and we'll role like that.

So where exactly is the loot in the dark zone? I see purple markers on the map for the exits, contamination zones which I have explored and extraction zones but no where for loot as far as I can tell.

The idea is anyone can learn every skill, so you can change on the fly depending on the situation and who you play with. You aren't locked into 1 "class" If you group up with friends and everyone is a medic you can change to something else that could benefit the team. It's very nice being able to pull up the menu and swap on the fly in the middle of combat and not miss a beat.

Yes. I love that it allows you to switch on the fly depending on your squad needs. Like this we all don't have to worry about looking for tank or healer forever.

it's low level content. It will matter later 100%

How do you know this? I mean theoretically we'll all just scale as will out weapons and throwables as we play and find new gear. You could be spot on and we'll need to use all the abilities in order to simply survive... or they could end up being ignored completely as they could be in closed Alpha/Beta. Just curious to know if you know some information i dont... was anything mentioned, hinted at etc.? (Genuinely curious here not being a dick)

Do I need XBL Gold to play the beta? Don't want to waste a code if I do. Sorry if this has been asked already.

Q: Do I need an Xbox Live Gold or
PlayStation®Plus membership to participate in the beta?
A: Xbox One and PlayStation®4 system owners will not need an Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation®Plus membership to access and play the beta. However, there are some game modes that require such accounts. More details on this will be released in the future.

So how is everyone liking the beta so far? Does it live to the hype?

Yes because of the new thunderbolt support, and because Nvidia apparently doesn't use their brain to say maybe 99.99% of the people don't have some external GPU bullshit.

Mine didn't do this. I specifically looked for it after installing the new driver. Only thing that showed up in the safely remove devices window was an external hard drive.

completely different types of games

Yeah as someone who loves Siege i was praying this would have the same amazing gunplay and time to kills etc. but it's like a polar opposite (and really a Tom Clancy game in name only if i'm honest).

You'll be shooting low level badguys in the face multiple times in order to drop them... think of this as a third person RPG first and foremost... that just happens to utilize firearms as a means to use some "skill" to cast damage (think accuracy) at the mobs.

Yep thats what i needed to know, gonna be trying the beta on xbox tonight

Ahh ok cool, do you have any idea of how many skills there are / how many you can equip at the same time?

It's not a "bad game" by any means... but def not what some are going to be expecting coming from games like Destiny or Rainbow6:Siege. I almost feel like it would be even more successful if it was more like a traditional Clancy game in terms of damage and firearms... it would be completely possible to have a deep RPG with scaled, quick time to kills and realistic firearm handling. but i totally get why they went the more casual bullet sponge, heavy auto aim route.

Coming up against any sort of team in the dark zone while soloing and trying to extract is painful, it was all so friendly earlier on too. I think I'll be sticking to a full team when the game gets released.

My expectations are super low considering Ubi's history.

I mean, I will admit that yes, it's not as amazing looking as the original reveal, but I definitely wouldn't classify this in the same downgrade level as Watch Dogs. That game looked almost entirely different. I'm actually quite impressed at how it looks like on the Xbox One. A buddy got a PC beta code as well, so I'm eager to see how it looks on there.

But I will admit that I'm not really a huge graphics snob. The gameplay, at least so far in the limited beta, is pretty great. I've been doing all the PvE stuff and almost ready to venture into the Dark Zone.

Too often people will see a difference in contrast/gamma in the final release, then bitch about downgrades to the lighting when it can mostly be modified in the post-processing.

Here is a full overview of the Season Pass content:

  • The Division Expansion I: Underground
  • The Division Expansion II: Survival
  • The Division Expansion III: Last Stand
  • Exclusive Sawed-off Shotgun, a unique sidearm customized for short-range destruction.
  • Full set of exclusive outfits and weapon skins
  • Special monthly benefits including exclusive content drops and special events.

I am not so sure i'm good with this last part.

The Expansion details are so incredibly vague also. Hm.

Guess I just wanted to revisit this one last time before release, seeing how it's basically the same content as the alpha, but I really love how they nailed the atmosphere with light and weather as well as they have. The synth gets me thinking of Escape from New York...what a licensed game that could finally be.

Watching Gothalions stream. Is it me or is the AI of enemies some of the dumbest I have ever seen. The low level thugs just stand there in the open and do nothing.

Looks like AI that you would expect from game like this. What I don't get it is why this AI gets crap while Destiny equally brain dead AI is somehow so good and immersive. Not pointing comment at you specifically, just seen that comparison often and I just don't see it.

Funny, they are really going for the Destiny community. Those three other streamers are big daily Destiny streamers (with King Gothalion is the biggest, he even has nearly 5 times more viewers than the official stream lol)

Why not tho? Destiny is having some serious end game content issues without any roadmap for future, and Division having same elements in it with good release date (early March) they have opening to get some of them Destiny players.

REGULAR UPDATES

The development team is working on a complete post-launch plan to keep the experience fresh for the months to come, including several free updates, new features and functionality.
The free updates to be released for all players will add new game modes such as challenging group-oriented operations to test players’ abilities in co-op mode and win unique rewards.

DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT

We are also planning 3 paid expansions that will be released over the course of the year. Each expansion builds on The Division, continuing your agent’s journey and progress with new content, gear and gameplay as you fight to take back New York:

Expansion I: Underground
This first major expansion opens up a new area to players as they explore the uncharted underworld of New York City with up to 3 friends for intense co-op action.

Expansion II: Survival
In this expansion, players will have to survive as long as possible in a very hostile environment that will challenge even the most talented agents.

Expansion III: Last Stand
Stay tuned for more information.

sounds good

So this beta seems to have the exact same content as last month's alpha? I havent done any dark zone yet, but when i finished the hospital story mission i got the same message that it was over. Did I miss something?

Have you been going solo during pve? If you are, how is the solo gameplay?

Yes! The atmosphere, esp. they way the weather can sneak up on you with a white out day or night... soooo good! Really makes me wish the Division was more like Dying light than Final Fantasy.

I put in the code I got from Nvidia in the Division website, only got to step 2 and it timed out on me (heavy traffic), but I did get an email from Ubisoft saying I have guaranteed access to the Beta and that they'll send the code "when the beta starts".

This was an hour ago. Does it have to do with not completing all the steps? But I did get a confirmation email...

Yeah... fight some badguys and either kill and rob other players or team up to simply dump your loot on an evac chopper. I'm hoping it's more than that... because it got kinda boring after only a few hours in the Alpha.

it has been said there are missions and such in the Dark Zone.

Downloading the beta now. Really don't know what to expect from the game but after Rainbow Six Siege my faith in Ubi has increased somewhat.

Can someone explain how manhunts and bounties work please? I'm a little unclear on how this system is implemented...

- Kill people = manhunt on your head
- How does it turn into a bounty?

every rogue agent has a bounty. if you kill a rogue agent, you get money for it.

a manhunt is when a rogue agent reaches level 5. there will be a manhunt on him/them and it will show up as an objective for other players.

So I know that the game has 4 person parties for regular stuff, but does anyone know what the max party size is for like endgame stuff?

curious if the game has bigger party sizes than destiny for "raids"

Got it, I still have so much to learn. Will give the beta a proper play-through this weekend. I just need to convince my wife that I need to stay home :p

Is there any mission in the Dark Zone during the beta ? A dungeon ? Kinda like Destiny Beta (Totally forgot, the place where you kill the giant eye robot thing at the end)
