Serkan Toto Rumor: Bandai Namco making several NX games, including a Smash for launch

I don't agree at all with this. Super Smash Bros is likely to get a port due to the amount of content it's received since it's launch but I seriously doubt Splatoon or Mario Kart 8 will get anything but sequels on NX. Mario Kart is a one game per system franchise and I doubt Nintendo will want to split consumers between Mario Kart 8 and 9, especially with how Mario Kart games rarely get effected by price. MK8 will almost certainly stay on the Wii U. Super Mario Maker wouldn't even work on NX unless it has a tablet styled controller or is a handheld.

It's very rare for Nintendo just to put their older games on new systems and I don't think we're going to start seeing them do it now. Sure the GBA got a lot of SNES ports but not ones from updatable franchises like Mario Kart and Splatoon, we'll see successors.
You're ignoring that the Wii U is a relatively unique situation for Nintendo.

It's gonna be their worst selling console by millions of units and reintroducing those Wii U games to a new audience sounds like a good strategy.

My prediction is that MM and Smash get enhanced ports at least. Splatoon will get a sequel.

Yup.

You think this would pretty much confirm that the NX won't be BC?

I wouldn't bet on it, we had some Gamecube ports on the Wii with BC such as Twilight Princess, Resident Evil 4 and Pikmin however there was a drastically new control scheme. Doesn't explain what Capcom did with the Resident Evil Archive games aha.

I like how seemingly a good chunk of people WANT wii u games ported to NX. It's the sharing mentality. We want MORE people to play these games they missed out on (assuming the NX does BETTER, not worse, than wii U).

Seriously why do people say Mario Maker isn't possible without a touchscreen? LBP used a controller and look at the complex shit people came up with. Its a tile based creation tool. The d-pad and a few shortcut buttons is all you need. Touch screen is not necessary.
Not necessary, just a heck of a lot more tedious. But given we know approximately jack shit about the form(s) NX takes, maybe it allows something like the Game Pad, or in some forms IS something like the Game Pad.

Or they could just offer alternative options, like a mobile phone be the touch screen interface.

But they don't change their move set to something else entirely... which is what that poster wants.

Balance patching is entirely different from changing a character's move set with completely new animations and new stats just because.
To be fair. I never meant a complete overhaul. It could be a matter of changing a special or two. Could be a special and a normal or smash. For example, no fludd for mario, give him something else. Or switching out luigis missle for something that draws more from the mario and luigi handheld series. They dont have to be redone from scratch, but given something special that these new characters seem to be getting

Ganondorf is the only character i think needs to be heavily changed.

Yep. Iwata said the NX will be absorbing the Wii U's architecture, whatever that means.

Right, thanks

And this is a good sign

If they are porting a major WiiU game like SSB, then NX is probably not BC - which hopefully means no more PPC

The games your mentioning sold millions even on their worst selling console. I'm not saying it's impossible but I doubt they're seen as failed projects that need to be ported, I don't think Mario Kart 8 being on NX would do any favours for Mario Kart 9. Mario Maker isn't impossible but it's very un-Nintendo to just chuck their game on a new system, what could they even do to make it better other than just add stuff that can be digitally added to the Wii U verison? I wouldn't be entirely surprised if Splatoon is bundled with the system to some extent, whether it be an enhanced port or a new game.

It's not like you're not gonna get Smash 5 just because of the port lmao
It's pretty rare for them to do multiple entries in multiplayer-oriented games per system, and especially with the ability to add on with DLC it seems less likely. So this existing could be a sign a proper Smash 5 is faaaar off.

I guess it depends on what they do. They could half-bake it and the same die-hard Nintendo fans will buy the NX for ports but the larger market might ignore it since it could be seen as a halfway product.

I really think it depends on if their plans for the hybrid console pan out because handheld = Instant Win in Japan. They just have to fight for a foothold elsewhere in the world.

Orange hasn't had a bad history with game branding

I just wonder if they could pull it off with game cases and an appealing looking console. I suppose 3DS did the red theme with subtlety. Green and Blue are currently being used by Xbox One and PS4 so they're probably avoiding those to stick out from the competition.

Blue is too tighted to WiiU.

I think they should go for warm and comfortable colors. Orange shuld be a safer bet than Red.

Red can be too agressive, or even negative.

I agree the red in 3DS is subtle enough.

No doubt in my mind Smash 4 is a launch title, but I know my hopes will be dashed once its revealed and Ice Climbers aren't a returning character and the 3DS content is forever lost.

Yeah :/ this is my thinking as well. I can see the only "new" content would be adding the DLC Newcomer videos to the vault.

I really REALLY hope I'm wrong though. I would Mario Kart 8 could do something similar, but they could at least add more Amiibo costumes.

It wouldn't be a new entry on NX tho and not too much work to just port over and maybe make 1 or 2 exclusive characters. They could have a small team work on that and a big team working on Smash 5.

No, see, they want to be so certain that NX is the opposite of Wii U, that even the COLOR is the opposite! :O

They'd honestly have less than 9 months, given the way releasing and distribution works. And following up Smash 4 is going to take way more time and manpower than following up 64 to Melee, even with a lot of cuts

Well, yeah, but I guess that work on the last few characters isn't been done by a complete team - the rest could have moved on to Smash 5/Smash 4 NX a long time ago.
And if it was a big team working on those characters still missing, we don't know for sure, if they are not done for some time and release is in February because of Nintendo's tactical planning with the Wii U release schedule.

It could work. I'm most likely there on day 1 either way (console), so a Smash would only sweeten the deal for me.

Expect a lot of WiiU ports

Mario Maker should be there, possibly Xenoblade X, etc...

Some of the older WiiU games might get a sequel or something

Mario Maker and XCX would be really tough to replicate without the gamepad. XCX would be doable by making the gamepad display a menu or something, but not ideal. Mario Maker would be damn near impossible.

What? Many people play Mario Maker without the gamepad, it's take longer but it wouldn't be impossible.

Yeah, DLC is almost never made by the entire team, it's done by a small team while the rest move to the next project.

I don't know anything, I'm just having fun connecting the dots.

I thinkkkk that job post was for the DLC this past year. That posting came about before DLC was even really a thing for the game (officially) and I don't think Bamco/Nintendo planned a NX port that long ago. It would most definitely be a recent decision.

But hey I could be wrong. :P

Who said they dont have a gamepad solution

I would expect all previous acccessories to work AND an alternative method in place

Plus if they are PORTING games instead of having BC then they would modify said games or patch in the alternative method if not downright support the gamepad itself

The gamepad isnt anything that special guys. Its a tablet with buttons

Wait, if they're porting smash, doesn't that rule out backwards compatibility?
Are you shocked by this? PowerPC is dead. They weren't lying when they said they were getting away from the Wii.

The Wii U is essentially an extension of GameCube cpu tech. It's time to catch up.

I'm sure they'll remaster the big titles.

I don't think XCX would be that tough to do without a Gamepad, since the only thing you would need to do is add an actual map option to the menu screen. That's really the only hurdle for that game.

Expecting a lot of WiiU ports to NX in the guise of 'Complete' Editions.
