Serkan Toto Rumor: Bandai Namco making several NX games, including a Smash for launch

Good of Nintendo to be building a close relationship with a third party, but I'm not sure what Namco games I'd want aside from Xenoverse and maybe something Soul Calibur.

I also hope that Smash NX isn't just a straight port, not even a port that combines 3DS and Wii U content. Like, throw a new Smash Run stage in there or something. Make a Smash Tour option that isn't so zany. Give us the character-as-stock game from the end of Smash Tour, but as a regular Smash mode. Stuff like that.

I would expect that sure!

They have closed the door on the WiiU/3DS version after the last update

I would expect the NX version to be the new BASE game and platform going forward

It will effectively be a full sequel over time with updates

As a few others have mentioned already, a port of Smash 4 with all DLC on NX wouldn't be suprising in the least, the thing here I find most interesting is that their apparently making multiple NX games. I really wonder what those are (provided this rumor is true).

Oh and Smash NX should have custom moves for the DLC characters. Come the fuck on, Samurai.

Im looking forward to the NX version being a definitive baseboard to jump from for the series going forward

I wonder just how far they will go to make this complete edition attracting at launch though

Lots of opportunities here

But it's kinda hard to make Smash 5 without Sakurai unless they already had a new director lined up.

A ground up developed smash game wouldnt be turned over this quick

Makes more sense Smash 4 would serve as a base to build a new NX version on top of

I probably wouldn't play them, but Nintendo should work on getting the anime games, (DBZ, Naruto etc) while this relationship is good. 3DS got some, but not Wii U. Those are decent sellers in the west too.

It's true, though. Porting successful games doesn't really hurt image, especially if many people missed out because they don't own a Wii U.

It's a matter of hypocrisy though. Sony has a history of cockblocking straight-port remasters, such as Breath of Fire 3 and many others - And here we are, the PS4 having a ton of straight ports, or ports with outright removed content like Type-0 HD and Nathan Drake Collection.

Now, I wouldn't mind NX getting a few remasters - There's a lot of WiiU games in genuine need of an expanded audience due to the U's poor sales, and games that could do with some technical brush-ups like Xenoblade X which pushed the system to its limits. And for them, there'd be no hypocrisy going on to be pissed about.

There has to be official information coming soon. Right?
Hopefully:

I don't know why people think Smash has to be a port, Smash U came out in November 2014, if they started development shortly after that and built it directly off of Smash U, even reusing most of the assets, they could totally have a new game ready for holiday 2016. Having the engine, core gameplay, assets and animation from Smash U could cut down on dev time dramatically.

Final work on Smash 4 just ended likely a week or so ago. It's been getting constant patches and DLC for a year and a half after release.

I would bet Smash NX will have new things. Makes sense to have a complete edition, but at the same time you want to sell it to people who have bought all the DLC as well. So a few new characters, stages, and some other changes would go a long way.

Smash as a Platform and not just numbered sequels

this is the future and Nintendo is doing this all over the place

Mario Maker and Splatoon are the same way

YUP! Not going to be a straight port. Well maybe at first but its going to expand going forward

With how much Sakurai does in the development of a single game I wouldn't be surprised if the development of a few DLC characters wasn't the only thing he was working on this past year.

A new Smash would be terrible. Smash 4 is doing well for itself right now

ofc Bamco and Nintendo have been pally for a while now so this isn't a surprise

I'd be super happy with a definitive edition of Smash at launch. Gimme all characters, all maps, gimme Smash Run (because Smash Tour sucks) and, obviously, Ice Climbers had better fucking be there. I'll buy two.

Yeah

This is the first Smash game to be regularly tweaked and upgraded

It JUST MAKES SENSE to push it forward as a continuously evolving product

Nintendo's never ported Smash before, but then again they've never had a console bomb this hard either so it makes sense. It's too early for a new Smash. I just hope that if this is true that they unlock the custom moves from the beginning.

That said, that probably means the NX won't have BC.

They should consider porting Splatoon, Mario Maker and other games while at it. Would give a chance for people who skipped the Wii U to try those experiences on the new platform.

chriiiist, if this has exclusive shit and I get burned. ugh.

Prep your anus man

They already said that the last content for WiiU/3DS is done

So all new stuff going forward is going to be on the NX version

Worst case scenario. They make the complete edition and then never touch it lol

Not gonna happen

If they added a character I actually want like Inklings or Ashley or whatever I'd buy it without even thinking about it :3
...which is why it won't have inklings or anyone I actually want as per usual :P

Heck, I'm still in shock that the home console version of Pokken has Braixen in it, but that's all the more reason I'd get Pokken NX if the gameplay holds up :D

I'd love this, and I think anyone sensible was and is expecting it.

As for what they should do with the game, more than anything else what this game needs is better single-player content. I've never played Smash Run, so maybe that's good, but classic mode is awful in the Wii U version. All-star mode is also too bloated now with all those characters.

Two decent ideas would be
-Create-a-classic mode: You pick the battles, stages and difficulty ahead of time, and then get to play it out. The game decides on appropriate awards based on the difficulty of each round.

-Fixed classic mode per character: Where each character has a set 'route' through classic mode that you can challenge for high scores. So Mario's might start with him fighting Donkey Kong on 85mm and end with him fighting Bowser in the NSMB stage. I think that could be fun.

Failing that, just take the same classic mode, and add options to remove all the 8-man battles and the final bosses.
