Street Fighter V Beta IV Thread: Jan 30-31

They buffed most of the casts cr.HK to do from 90 -> 100 damage. Guess they're trying to give players more initiative to using CH sweeps as a punish and/or more rewarding footsies.
If they wanted to give us a real reward, each character would have a really vicious setup that can only be used off of a c.HK. Laura has her charged fireball, which is great. Ryu used to be able to link off of his overhead if it was really meaty. Vega gets a free wall claw. As in every other knockdown situation, Bison gets jack shit, though.

Anyway, I think that's the best way to move forward, and it creates unique and hype situations, too. I think it's necessary when sweeps are largely punishable.

In a game with almost no hard knockdowns, finally getting one is a reward. Either to safely get yourself out the corner, push the opponent into the corner when knocked down (lol bison's forward dash) or various oki. I think their plan was to try eliminate setplay and focus more on a ground game.

Yea to use sweeps you have to commit to them each time.

I just don't think the reward is very good right now. I don't think it would lead to setplay, since no one is going to be able to do repeated hard knockdowns from oki setups.

Also, Bison's forward dash doesn't pass through opponents unless he's in V-Trigger. He can still push people back.

I think people will find varying rewards for it. Meaty attacks being another one.

And Bison can get himself some corner carry then :p

I think CC sweeps are good enough already. Hard knockdown, a good amount of V-meter gain and decent damage. So for example if your opponent whiffs a DP you have options to either get a max punish or a sweep and gain all the aforementioned. Its a perfect balance currently imo.

I don't know who to main :/ I like nearly everyone very much.

Characters are much easier to learn in 5, so the answer is main *everyone*.

Set some high BP/PP/LP/Whatever P they use goal and get every character there in ranked.

I hear Bison has sick corner pressure in this game via Psycho Inferno.

Oh wait.

Eh, I'd wait to see how the final game pans out and how the top players are working around it. There's not a lot of specials that are + in close proximity or I can't think of them. I feel like up close you want to fish for CH's with st.HK and other normals instead of depending on specials for pressure. .

I think my issue is that EVERY character in the game has a mix-up option outside of low/grab except for Bison. The tradeoff, as I saw it in Beta 1, was that Bison gets solid chip damage instead. That chip damage isn't as good as a successful overhead, but it made sense as his own way of whittling people down. Now I don't know what the hell he's supposed to do to open people up, since his cheap game is trash.

I kind of look at Bison and FANG as being similar character archetypes. Though FANG might have a mix-up in that command dash he has.

Check my and his YT channel. There's plenty.

I've been wondering why they elected to make counter hit sweeps crush counters and not just hard KD's.

Aye.

Will probably be the first fighter where I cut through all the roster to be proficient with all.

Yea I don't know why Bison's DF. HP isn't an overhead while it looks just like one. Maybe they'll slow it down a bit then give it a mid hitting property?
probably not lol

I don't see Bison/FANG being anything like each other in the slightest. FANG looks like he's trying to play a keep away game while trying to maximize how much damage he can get from his poison while Bison wants to RTSD.

Random thing about FANG, his V-Skill poison ball doesn't trade with projectiles lol. I couldn't tell if you block the V-Skill if you'll still be poisoned or not, anyone know? I hope he becomes a really good zoning character though. Also, his normals remind me of V-Trigger Chun normals with all the double hits.

Ah, a quick question, what are the characters less likely to strain the hands, aka characters who have a gameplay with the less APM ?

With my hands condition, it's sadly becoming a factor for the choice of a character.

Maybe Zangief. Just map lariat to a trigger and your good to go.

Birdie is pretty easy inputs wise. You can do his most damaging stuff with little effort.

df.HP looks like an overhead, and it's as slow as one. -_-

But I don't want Bison to have mix-ups. I was really happy with him as a chip monster, since that's how I like to play. I don't like mixing people up. I prefer a game of attrition in the neutral.

What I mean about the FANG/Bison comparison is that their gameplan both centers around controlling space to ensure they get to continually chip their opponents. FANG is keepaway, though, while Bison is midrange.

You can't block FANG's V-Skill. It's probably one of the best V-Skills in the game in terms of design.

Why would you suggest a character with 360s/720s?

I'd say Chun li. Relies a lot on godlike normals, she's part charge and charge moves are bit less strain on hands.

I'm thinking it terms of APM he meant characters that weren't combo heavy/don't require a lot of buttons.
720 super I feel is easier since it's just two smooth motions with your thumb on the stick, rather than 2+qf motions where you have to lay your thumb off twice for the input. 360's are really simple to do in this game if you use a stick/analog.

might have been safe in that build. That or cr. mk was too slow to punish before.

No way. Tenko was never close to safe. People are just slow to react right right now. The only safe specials Karin has is the light upkicks, and the normal shoulder. Everything else is easily punishable.

I know it's way too early for any kind of consensus to develop around the game, but apart from individual preferences, in general does it look like Street Fighter V is shaping up to be a solid, substantial entry? I haven't had a chance to spend any time with it yet, and I'm curious if the overall impression is: "Yes, it's going to be awesome."

All SF games are vanilla on day one you can't say until at least 2 years.

fang looks incredibly interesting but i have no idea wtf his moveset is. maybe this?

*specials*
sleeve rush
arc fireball
poison trap
command dash

*commands*
hakan crouch
double kick?

Was talking to a friend of mine recently, and there was some confusion over the current support for Mad Catz TE2s (the ps3/ps4 versions) for the PC version currently. I tried to use mine, in both modes, in the prior beta. Is something wrong on my end, or has support not been implemented yet?

Man. I have a SHIT ton of work to do over the weekend to get ready for the new semester. Lesson plans for 3 different classes. Unit plans. New syllabi. Oh man. Still....Street Fighter is life. I will find a way.

Dhalsim, requires a fair bit of match-up knowledge though. Birdie arguably also matches your criteria.

V is a lot more focused in its design than IV has ever been, and it's faster paced. Consensus is generally really positive (ignoring those hung-up about combo extravagance) and the netcode has been promising during the beta tests.

Are the servers up? I only ask because on the official site it lists the servers as being online unless it's always said that since the previous betas?

Season Pass just became a little more tempting. I still think I'm gonna hold off because I'll just be hustlin' in this game all day when it drops.
