Street Fighter V Beta IV Thread: Jan 30-31

Safe specials? Yeah you don't know what you're talking about as usual.

It's been years since your SF4 Cammy nonsense but you still haven't learned that the problem isn't the games. Lost cause.

Her lk kicks are pretty safe. It's a very good pressure tool. Her MK over head extension and HK are not. Her lp overhead special is incredibly difficult to punish.

I'm not blaming the game or saying anyone is broken, just that Karin is very stupid at this early stage. Everything is subject to change and will.

"Thunder Clap (All) - Hurtbox now moves backwards during startup"

Neat, going to have to use laura's fireball more see if this is a noticeable improvement.

you can do strings to make the fireball hit later and give you more advantage.

easiest one is probably s mp, cr. mk xx mp fireball

Karin is not very stupid. Mujinkyaku LK is -5 on block, they should NOT be used as a pressure tool. She has no mixups, everything she does is negated by holding down-back. Against people that have good defense she has to commit to unsafe strings and pressure to try and open them up. She's an overall good character but nothing stupid.

Thank you. Well I'll look more into her frame data and actually learn the match up in depth.

would love to practice against the training mode cpu(fighting back)with more chars but i don't want to make an ass out of myself because of the auto search lol.

Well went 1/33 tonight. Had a blast, but definitely have some work to put in. If you want to lend some pointers here is the cringe-fest

You use specials too much. As a rule of thumb, special moves are something you combo into rather than something you throw out at random times. You need to learn your characters normals and figure out when they should be used. It's a lot safer to whiff a St.mk with Chun Li than it is to whiff lighting legs.

Starting using more throws. Chun Li is a quick character, so not using throws is wasting a huge part of her strength. Don't be afraid to just walk up to someone and throw, or throw them right when they stand up. Especially if you've been the one bullying the other guy and he's blocking alot. Watch this video and do this sort of thing more often. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pust8fM25GQ. It's called a tick-throw and it's a really important basic technique in Street Fighter.

Also, you were never taking the advantage when you knocked him down. You have the advantage in this situation so get close to them and do something. Even if you just walk up to them and block, that's still good since they might panic and do a shoryuken or something. Just letting them stand up for free is letting them off the hook.

It just seems like you need to learn the basics of fighting games. That will help you improve way more than trying to find a character you like. Learn how to play basic Street Fighter first. I'm not very good so take this all with a grain of salt.

I honestly never would have thought my two best characters would be Nash and Cammy. I've even gotten up to 800 LP and Rank 11,724. What an interesting and productive day this has been.

Can't wait to wake up tomorrow and forget everything ;____;

Did ok with necalli but I've started down a losing streak so I'm calling it for the night. I'm still completely clueless as to how to approach bison in any street fighter game. Any time I step forward I get scissor kicked.

One time I stepped out of the range of Karin's sweep, v-triggered on reaction and the v-trigger stop-time gave me time to punish her sweep with an ex dp and win the round. So that felt pretty good.

Coolest thing I saw was a mika who called a delayed Nadeshiko, did some block string and literally frames before nadeshiko would have hit me, mika command grabbed me. I feel like I've seen dozens of people try to pull off grab set-ups with nadeshiko but this was the first one that really got me.

also zangief air grabbed me at the peak of his jump when I was an inch above the ground below him feeling like I had just gotten one over on him. But wow I guess not.

Ugh, can't wait until release day. Gonna put in so much time in training. Only lost two matches out ten or so with Ryu. One was to Gief. First time playing against him. He's all kinds of scary in V.

It's the pickiest of nits, but Ryu's stance looks shittier than in previous games. It's like they tried to make him look extra hard, leaning into it, but it just doesn't look right. 4's Ryu stance was fine.

Damn I need to take a break I'll pick it up tomorrow went on a huge losing streak and I need a break to think and figure out what I was doing wrong these last few matches.

Came back to the beta thinking I was hot shit because I made it to level 4 (and I haven't seen anything past level 6). All of a sudden my first fight is against a level 12 Birdie which I'm fighting for the first time. Ten or so straight losses later I get a 6 win streak, but I'm not messing with that anymore. Someone is bound to ruin my pace and the game is brutal. I gotta figure out how to use Karin's Guren skills because the competition is crazy strong...

Jab it

All the good players are just sweeping it or straight up crouch jabbing it. If she's getting overhead hits it's because she must be getting successful crouching weak or medium punches. It's a problem of fundamental defense, not her meh overhead being good.

Nash main here(until Cody arrives)...but damn Ryu is a defensive force. Hits like a sack of bricks too.

So damn good to see great SFV's Ryu in action.

Today was the first time I played SFV. I was on for about 4 or 5 hours. First off, Im really glad my PC can run this game at a consistently smooth frame rate. Visually, SF5 is a step up from 4, its still a little ugly IMO.
Prolly won about 50% of my games. Net code is amazing for me. I played guys with American, Canadian and Japanese flags (Im in Sydney, Aus) and didnt have any lag issues. Looks like Capcom did a great job there.
I really like how nice Cammy looks. I used Birdie a lot too, because I like his belly jiggle. lol. Had a harder time winning games with him though.
