Street Fighter V Beta IV Thread: Jan 30-31

Why? Because they construe it as disrespect instead of a tool?

Sounds like a good lesson for a new player to learn.

Taunting is not a tool, taunting is being a tool/clown/ass/whatever, unless there's some stat boost associated like SF3. It's well within your right to be a tool/clown/ass/whatever while playing Street Fighter, but don't pretend like it's good sportsmanship.

I've gone over this before in some of the other beta threads, but while you may see it as just a random gaffe/mindgame thing, it's very, very easy to for a person new to the game to see it as someone being an asshole. Even if you've played fighters forever, you can't discount that.

And the lesson most new people would take from that is 'I'm bad at this game, and the people that play it are dicks. I'm going to stop playing it now.'

People don't care about this until there's no budget for the next FG in large part because the "community" is not welcoming to beginners. Toughen up kid! Might be a good life lesson, but SF needs more (meaning new) players to stick around.

Taunting's only fun against certain people. Like the whole reason to taunt is to get a rise out of someone, so the only reason you taunt a lot is if the person you're taunting is getting visible angry and frustrated. It's really weird how much it angers some people, chill bro.

I guess it's official. Karin and Ryu are my mains. Was going to try and learn Vega but I guess I'll pass on that for now.

Now I just need my main man Dudley and all will be right in the world.

That people are assholes is not a "life lesson" a video game needs to teach people. 100% of people will learn it very early and be reminded constantly.

IMO, the taunt mechanic is almost never used like it was intended. I would be okay with it's complete removal, with exceptions for characters like Dan who have functional taunts.

I've been playing fighters for almost fifteen years and I just assume that anyone taunting mid-match in a game that doesn't have taunt bonuses is an ass if they're dominating lol. I don't take it too seriously considering the nature of multiplayer in this genre. It can brutal compared to most games/scenes. Knowing how tough things are I go out of my way to friend bad people for sparring practice and I even have secondary characters I'm bad with just for the nubs. Perfecting scrubs feels like kicking puppies.

Kinda surprised that Laura is the most popular new character. I wonder how F.A.N.G will perform once he is out.

noun: taunt; plural noun: taunts

1.
a remark made in order to anger, wound, or provoke someone.

Yeah, really weird. Why in the world would that anger somebody, hmmm. I agree, I would be ok w/ non-functional taunts being removed. I mean, idk how they survived but late hits didn't.

I was playing Zangief and a ryu player close to death taunted me. I instinctively V-Triggered as soon as I saw it and it sucked him in and killed him. I don't know why he taunted but it was funny.

Unless you are playing the Jojo fighting games. Taunting has a different meaning.

Too bad there isn't a way (not really, this is actually super creepy) to capture people's faces in the middle of a game. The look on his face would have made for a hell of a kodak moment.

That's how I am. I think for the people that are new or just started with SF4 or something, I cut them a little slack, but for the people who have been part of the fgc for years, we need to see the bigger picture sometimes.

I do feel like helping out beginners is the right thing to do, and taunting people who I don't know or who I am destroying is a juvenile/sophomoric thing that I avoid. Have a little class, man. Act like you've been there before.

We almost didn't get a SF4. We did, it brought in new people, and then the community became arguably more elitist (or such is the reputation, at least). Capcom couldn't even fund SFV, which as we see is not exactly feature rich, on their own. I try to remind myself to be an ambassador when possible, and show good sportsmanship regardless. The genre, and SF in particular, needs to bring in and keep new consumers. SFV: Fight for the Future, part 2

It's still in the game because it's super fun for people who can control their emotions!

Think I'm done with the beta now. I've been great at only ever picking Ryu or Ken over the course of the beta's, keeping every other character as a new character for launch.

Last game somebody pulled the plug when I quickly realized that they would mash DP when up close. Kind of a poetic end to the beta. The game changes but the players don't. Who are these people? What do they want?! I hope one of them streams so we can all investigate :D

So this is a long shot, but here goes:

Does anyone else have problems with this beta in fullscreen? The very first time I loaded the game, it played great maxed out at fullscreen. Every other time I start it now, the game runs in super slow motion - In fullscreen only. If i bump it to windowed, I get fluid 60 FPS with max everything. This has been happening to a bunch of games as of late, including Toukiden: Kiwami and Dying Light.

I think it has something to do with refresh rate and my 4k tv that I'm running it through. I'm using the HDMI 2.0 slot. My TV is supposed to support 60hz at 4k or 120hz at 1080p. I tried setting both resolutions full screen, but it still stays in slow motion.

I have the refresh rate in Nvidia's control panel set to 120hz, and default res set to 1920x1080. My specs are:

Core i7 -2600
16GB RAM
GTX 970

Again, this is really puzzling me, because I'm getting more games that I can only run at normal speeds in windowed mode. Anyone have any similar problems or advice?

can someone PLEASE explain something about Vega to me?

his EX walljump move where he dives down at you from above seems like completely free damage, nothing I can do against it works. I try to block or dash, I get grabbed. I try to jump or antiair I get hit by a different attack entirely. What the fuck do I do?

Dash back when he does the jump and punish it.

Man, why the hell haven't I been using Ryu's crouching HP. Playing on DS4 and DP's don't always come out like I want them to.

Meanwhile I have crouching HP which is such a great anti-air. Also helps that you can pretty much get a sweep right after it.

I feel like I dashed the entire length of the damn screen and it still homed in on me. I fought a Vega who used every single segment of his bar on just that move and I got hit every single time. I took less damage if I jumped up and ate the claw swipe instead which is the most fucked up way to 'counter' a thing but it's all that worked. Playing Bison so no dragon punch or whatever, all I can think of is cr.HP at the right time. I just don't know the right time.

matchmaking is kinda wonky. getting matched up with really high ranked players. met my first zangief and beat him.

Finally hit 2k LP again and I'm going to call it a day until tomorrow. This is the 4th time I reached it, every time I reached it before I would lose the next match. With the last time I dropped all the way down to the low 1700's and had to win 6 of my last 7 to reach 2k again before I felt content to stop lol. The points are a lot harder to get than before when I coasted to 3k before I hit a brick wall.

Had to use my laptop to record and the audio is fucked up at the start.

Apparently Charlie's Anti-Cross up is Standing Strong.

Fun fact: If your opponent disconnects while you are in the "matching screen" you get stuck looking at the Earth rotate until you quit out of the game.

Where can we report bugs for the beta?

yeah i think i'm done with sf5 until i get the madcatz pad. pretty sure i won't be using ryu either. think i'll try vega and fang when the game is released.

They really ought to do something about the way the netcode behaves when people rapidly walk back and forth. It seems to really fuck up the prediction and they start teleporting very rapidly. It's kinda disorienting.
