Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Looking for a "LVT3 LED Board for PS4" but not having much luck? what are my options for LED on a TE2+?

also! does the TE2+ still have translucent sides?

Is installing one of these all that difficult if you have never messed with replacing a pcb before? The description makes it sound fairly easy to do, but I'm wondering what I'm getting myself into if I buy one of these. I don't want to solder or get into anything overly complicated, but doing this doesn't seem like it is.

I know this one isn't out, I'm more asking in general what I would be getting myself into. Also, how much time does it usually take to get one of these installed and working?

Doesnt look bad, I can take some pics when I install mine in to my SFIV TE.

On that note, are the plastic caps typically all the same as sanwa defaults in these sticks? I'm looking for something with a 'harder' tactile feel, as the sanwas are so sensitive etc.

No, they feel harder than sanwa. I play red cherry switches btw.

I think nothing sadly. Paradise arcade stop the led stuff after the Kaimana Khameleon came out. http://www.jasenscustoms.com/Kaimana-Khameleon_p_59.html

You thought of just getting the regular TE2 led board? http://store.madcatz.com/categories...-FightStick-Tournament-Edition-2-LED-PCB.html

Thinking about getting wither the chun li TE 2 or the Tournament Edition S+. Anyone have a preference over either of these or are they much the same?

Yeah, odds are I'll just pick up the one from Mad Catz, but I did like the features of the LVT3, the price on the other hand not so much :( lol

Yeah. A lot of P.A. prices are pretty ridiculous.

Does one have a touch pad over the other? That might be the only difference. SFV will have touch options in training regard positioning.

Tbh I'm struggling to spot the difference (except price). That could well be it

Guys, I need your help!

The Hayabusa I got did not fit in the SE Madcatz stick. Like, at all. Super disappointed.

So, the question is, what shell does it fit??

The TES+ has the touch-pad, which allows for quick resets in any position for Training Mode in SFV (plus other uses in games like USF4 & Xrd). It's honestly not make-or-break, but it's convenient for if you want to spend hours in the lab. The TE2 on the other hand allows you to mod your stick & buttons easily. It just depends on what you prefer.

TES+ - Has touchpad and extra L3/R3 buttons
TE2 - New casing, which allows for easier modding, missing extra buttons and touchpad

I think that's pretty accurate. MarkMan correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks guys that's really helpful. Going to pre order one tonight. Haven't made the final choice yet. Hopefully it'll come to me in a minute. Kinda like the idea of using the touch pad to reset position in training mode

Yeah, I kinda like that functionality. It's a nice little extra for those who have a touch-pad on their stick, but it's not something that those without one would lose any sleep over. It's a win-win situation. I suppose that Capcom also had to consider PC players.

Are the buttons in the front of the te2+ 30mm or 24mm?

30

Thanks Skilletor for the feedback, glad I posted here first.

I like how the obs-mx's just fit in the current button housing, that's sleek. Though I don't mind some work to fit buttons in the panel, the important thing is that buttons feel tough/durable and not wobbly plastic/sensitive like the current Sanwa OBSF I have. Concerns me a bit that you find mechanical switches mushy when that's how I'd describe Sanwa OBSF's. You'd prefer the Sanwa RG over mechanical switches huh?

At 7:30 in this video these cherry mx blue's look and sound how I think they'd feel.

Over the ones I've used, yeah (Red, blue, and black). Played on a friend's RGs at EVO and fell in love. I just got some for myself today (they just came in), and I love them so much, I had to order another 6 for my other main PS4 stick.

I also ordered some brown cherry switches, so I'm hoping those are a bit stiffer.

Well it's pretty annoying not having the touchpad in the original TE2. I speak from experience. I'd definitely go with the TE2+ if I didn't already own the original. It's kind of shitty IMO that early adopters got screwed in this regard, but oh well.

For a big release like Street Fighter 5, what is the FightStick market usually like? I'm assuming supply low, high demand in the beginning so prices will stay at MSRP. But how long does it take for enough sticks and enough competition so that prices start to drop a bit? Thanks!

I've got the TE2+ preordered from Gamestop and it's got me thinking about custom art. I used Tek Innovations to customize my Razer Atrox, because I found a really nice Darkstalkers template for it and I love it's look. I'm having a harder time finding a huge collection of TE2 templates. I've been to handful of forums and reddit and can't seem to find a good source for art. Does anyone have any websites to browse TE2 custom templates?

prices are already low depending on where you look and what stick you want.

Hori for example seemingly has high supply for their sticks and are priced competitively, thats before amazon/etc sales/discounts that happen here and there.

used market is still at a premium with only a difference of 20-30% off retail price, mileage may vary.

so far there are only two companies making sticks for modern consoles (Xbone/PS4), the DIY / Modding scene is considerably overall more affordable, considering you're probably gonna upgrade a previous gen stick, but requires more work and know-how.

I own quite a few last gen sticks and don't feel like paying the 300$ a new one costs over here so I'm looking into modding one or two. I feel like I can do the work but I'm wondering what people are doing for PS4 PCBs (I doubt it's ripping apart DS4s...)?

I'm thinking about the Real Arcade Pro 4 Kai. I wish I was looking more actively in the past month or two because various outlets had them briefly at $100. I think that is the way I will go.

I had a MC TE I got for SF4 for $75 on sale back then, but didn't get into playing on a stick then and sold it for no loss. I think I'm more focused now to try to have sticks stick. But if I do need to sell it later, I don't want to lose too much either. That's why a Hori at $100 would be perfect, but now I've got to wait a bit for a sale (if there is one).

I'm still having issues getting my PS4 TE2 stick working with the SFV beta. It works fine with USF4, but just isn't recognized on the V beta.

I'm out of ideas.

So the touchpad functionality is not in the PC version? I might as well just find an older stick then if I won't need touchpad

I used hori FC4. They are pretty cheap on eBay.

I'm not playing the SFV beta (internet has killed itself *sigh*), but if you are playing on PC, I gather that it's only supporting xInput devices, so controllers which identify as DirectInput (basically any PS3/PS4 controller) will not be picked up by the game. You'll probably have to futz around with x360ce or Joy2key or some other alternate method of getting your controller to spoof something it'll recognise to get it to work.

If you are on PS4, no idea.

Ended up preordering the TES+ over the TES2+ and over modding my own stick. I'd rather not deal with any potential issues with the firmware in the future. Could have padhacked, sure, but I'm lazy :)

Can someone please explain to me X-Input and D-Input and why MS and Sony use one over the other? I'd imagine MadCatz would at least come out with drivers or something to convert D-Input to X-Input on PCs, no?

Probably not, unless you can map those shortcuts to the keyboard. Can anyone with the PC version check to see if that's the case? But based on my experience, the touchpad button is typically coded as the select button on my computer. Maybe I could get the touch functions running with another driver, but I'm not sure.

Got my MCZ TE2 Chun edition.

First thing is the stick is good but the screw driver's probably the worst piece of accessory in the box.

The plastic is real cheap and the metal screw carved inside the shaft of the handle when I was trying to undo the ball top on the stick. Now it's stuck. RIP

Anyone have a dark-colored balltop that isn't plain that they want to sell? Just looking for a smoke or black mesh balltop. Something dark that isn't just a plain color.

Continuing with Skilletor's suggestions, anyone have other recommendations for mechanical buttons?

There's nothing wrong with the sanwas but after using a mechanical keyboard for some time now my brain is wired in such a way that when I use my arcade stick they feel like cheap plastic. The best way I can describe it is I need to go from a $5 oem keyboard to using an expensive mechanical keyboard. Something with a harder tactile feel and feedback response (similar to the 'clicky' cherry mx blues). I don't know how this will fair for fighting games, it might be a bad choice but I'm going to try it out.

It's also important that the button housing doesn't feel like cheap wobbly plastic (I don't even know if anything else exists). Is there actually a better plastic replacement that still doesn't feel 'mushy' when you bottom out?

Current:
Sanwa OBSF-30

Recommendations so far:
Sanwa OBSF-30RGs (non-mechanical but tougher?)
HBFS-G2 (mechanical)
OBS-MX (mechanical but uses the same plastic button housing)

TE2 Artwork Template
I think someone a few posts back was looking for some TE2 artwork/template so here you go.

It's up to Capcom to add support for directinput. And it's actually dumb that they're not supporting it since Sony controllers are directinput. It's like they don't want you to use Sony controllers with Sony (PC) games.

Doesn't Capcom have a deal with MadCatz? Wouldnt MC want them to support their new sticks (which I've preordered) for SFV on PC?

Good thing amazon has a sick refund policy. I'll send it back in a heartbeat I'm sick of having issues with sticks on PC.

TE2 Artwork Template
I think someone a few posts back was looking for some TE2 artwork/template so here you go.
The RGs aren't too different from the regular OBSFs, I switched my cab buttons from RG to non RG a while ago (for some clear stuff...RG clear parts were limited/rare/etc). The RGs have a switch rated for more cycles but in feel they were really similar, like the plunger provides a little more resistance. It might help with accidental light touch glances, I've accidentally hit the bomb button on light touches on the non RGs, but I wouldn't be too surprised if it would've happened with the RGs anyway. Overall I'd consider them much more similar than dissimilar. If it's a matter of wanting a different feel entirely I don't think it'd change enough for you.

I'm wondering if you'd be happier with American style clicky buttons that provide more resistance and have the click. Course I don't know how they are nowadays, I bought mine from Happ way way back, but another company owns them now and vaguely recall quality complaints since then. Plus American style stuff (back in the day at least) generally required more vertical space in the housing, don't know if that'd be an issue for you though.

All that said, I haven't tried them but I've heard the GamerFinger stuff (and presumably the OBS-MX) can provide a similar feel in the Japanese button form factor, so it might fit the bill. Ultimately if you want something like the Cherry MX Blues...you might as well try the ones that use just that.

(Dammit now you got me thinking about it with the OBS-MX for my cab. Always been curious about them but never been a big fan of the surround shape on the GamerFingers, so just swapping out the switch would work for me)

So I just pieced up the parts for two seperate orders. The exchange rate and shipping is going to bend me over. Order would be $210... What? I could buy another stick.

And thanks for your input japtor, I agree about the shape of the gamerfingers but the buttons seem legit.

Was gonna edit but since you just posted again, one more I forgot about:
http://forums.shoryuken.com/discussion/139076/japanese-buttons-with-cherry-switches

Totally forgot those existed, course they might not exist anymore for all I know. Just another thing for reference in the wacky world of obscure arcade parts.

And one note I saw about GamerFingers (albeit old so may not apply anymore?), I saw some post saying they were slightly larger so might require some filing out of the original button holes to fit.

And another edit from SRK, saying not to use Blues?

Do any of you guys have experience with the Brook PS3 to PS4 adapter? I am thinking of getting this but want to make sure that there are no horror stories of the thing being junk first.

Cannot speak to that particular adapter, but I have another one of theirs that does 360&X1 to PS4 and it works without a hitch. Twice since release Sony has caused them to not work with a firmware update but Brook had them fixed within 48 hours. The firmware is updateable and they keep adding features, too.

People say they work great, but be warned that firmware updates introduce the 8 minute timeout. Brook has been quick to respond with their own update, but there's no telling if that'll always be the case.

i've been using it for the beta and usf4

they do update soon after sony releases a firmware update that breaks the functionality of the adapter

its been good allot of support by GOGO.Zippy on SRK (you need a windows to update the firmware)

i'd say the it feels like a mid level usb key

i don't feel like the adapter is a long term solution or tournament option yet.

its great for all my legacy sticks

its around 80 cad for me so still cheaper than a stick

Any tips for bringing an arcade stick on a flight? I guess it's better if I pack it in my carry on, right?

Yeah carry on will be best bet.

I got called over to my carry-on bag for inspection after it went through the scanner. But I also had hard-drives and my stick in there all bubble wrapped so I expected to be pulled to the side. They didn't rummage through my stuff, they let me open the bag and just asked simple questions. But I was flying domestic in Canada.

sticks are basically always going to set off someone from the TSA to want to look forward, at least if its in a carry on you get to be there for it, and repack if necessary. If its in your checked bag then you are at their mercy
