Street Fighter V Beta IV Thread: Jan 30-31

I think it means to switch to clawless.

Bare Handed essentially.

Oh, right. Makes sense, just wasn't clear to me. Thanks!

Also yeah, as someone who's been playing a lot of Vega the past couple days I definitely think Cammy is one of his worst matchups. She has good answers for his pokes which is super frustrating.

Gief plays really great! Stand jab is a great anti air and puts them straight into LP piledriver range.

He has so many anti-airs in this game it's great.

St. Jab, cr hp if you want the damage with the tradeoff of range, lariat for farther jumps and even cr mp works at a certain distance i've found

I hate fighting Chun and Nash as Vega.

Had a blast today playing. I wish my Virtua Stick High Grades worked on PS4. I have the Chun TE but I love my Sega sticks.

The Brook adapter didn't work for them, just my Horis.

Only had one laggy match for about a third of a round.

outta curiosity, what are the PC settings for parity with PS4?

Resolution 1920 x 1080
Resolution Scaling: 100
Anti-Aliasing: ??
Post-Processing: ??
Shadow Detail: Medium
Texture Detail: ??
Effects: ??

I'm pretty sure the shadow detail is Medium but what about the others?

The radio silence on ps3 sticks means it ain't happening, right?

I have this almost unused tekken hybrid stick I got on a ridiculous deal a few years back. Something like $45 and it came with soul calibur 5 and tekken 6

.....Well, it took a while to come to terms with it, but I guess my brain isn't made for fighting games. Been playing for 2 days straight, with multiple characters, each with a hell of a lot of uninterrupted practice (using the 2P record trick), and can't even get to 300 LP.

Since I ordered it for more than 20 bucks off, I might as well sell my copy to someone. And I can probably get 200ish for my fight stick. Thankfully because of the weak canadian dollar, I can make a profit and put that towards more important things.

I'm convinced Mika is going to be getting nerfs down the line. She seems insanely deadly at both close and mid range, while also having decent control of the air from what I can tell.

I've fought like two Necalli's, max, and yet that's more than enough to be reminded of how corny he is. Terrible character.

Eh? You don't like Pillar Men? Necalli looks great.

If they are giving us PS3 stick support, we will find out at the last second.

Mad Catz gotta sell sticks.

Bison is so fun in this game. Doing V-Trigger cancels after scissor kicks rules. I miss his old s.HK from 4 but his new one links into cr.MP so it's a fair trade IMO.

Maybe I'm wrong but I feel that Mika isn't strong enough.

You should post a video of yourself playing. Fighting games is not just training mode practice, you might just have some bad habits during matches that you don't realize.

I've really been liking Necalli but I kinda feel bad for just doing cr.lk into command grab over and over until some poor Laura player was stunned.

Enjoying Rashid and Chun-Li a lot, and to a lesser extent Zangief (doesn't seem as powerful as I believed him to be in the last beta).
No one is fully clicking with me yet though, thank god Guile will be coming out soon.

Have they changed the China stage music again!?
They keep fucking with it. It was perfect in beta 3, leave it be!

Also, there's SO much clipping in this game, hair and clothes clipping all over the place.

I'm willing to bet people who are into the beta are more "hardcore" than who would be at release. Plus the ranking system is kind of weird. I fought people who had lower LP than me, but were rank 900 or around there, and there have been times I fought people who had way more than 1300 which is my LP, but they were in ranks 20000. Also strangely enough, each win only gets me like 15-30 LP, but when I lose, I lose like 60-70, so I don't know how this works. There's also people trying out low rank characters. I fought people who had lvl 3 characters but their account was like lvl 25.

Don't give up, dude. 2 days is nothing, especially if you're switching characters. I kind of hate the points system because people focus on it too much. Ignore that and focus on learning something each match. Prior to SF4 that's how fighting games worked :)

I mean, I've been playing for 20+ years and I still struggle and learn. Why do people give up so easy??

Some people don't know what struggle is

just did 6 crush counter hks in a row with gief followed by an ex spd. I feel kinda bad lol

Cleaning rounds with that is so good

Set people up for backdash with conditioning, then hit them with crush counter into hp spd twice = game

Ditto.

Also has probably the worst V-Skill in the game and her Trigger is only decent at best.

Yeah agreed, her V-Skill needs maybe another hit of armor or something.

I feel that if I get a good string of moves going she becomes god like and I have really steamrolled some players. But with better players she just takes so much determination and creativity to win at the moment.

seem to be hovering around 1000-1100 depending how my luck ends up.

As I get higher I'm definitely seeing some problems with Bison (and myself). His lack of overheads can make it infuriating to fight someone with a good antiair and a desire to hold down back. It's no longer endless steamrolling and I need to start getting a better understanding of what normals to use against who instead of cr.mp all day every day. I had a couple VERY frustrating matches against Nash earlier where it felt like I couldn't do anything at all, every attack just got stuffed.

Here's my latest match, might look like ass since I just uploaded it. Probably my most intense match of the beta so far, I made some good guesses and some bad mistakes. Also the end of the first round...I have no idea what the hell even happened, lol.

Hmmm ? 2 days ? That is NOTHING, especially if you never played any FGs before, and considering you're switching characters.

I suggest you stop focusing on your LPs for a VERY long time...

I don't know if the "mentor" thread is still active, you could ask for help there.

You've got 2 days of training mode practice vs. people who've played each beta on top of playing fighting games for years. It takes a bit of time + introspection. Watch a replay of yours (or upload it here) and look at what you're getting hit by and explore ways to counter that with the replay function. It's a bit difficult to do that now because fight request is always on, but you shouldn't be immediately dissuaded because you're losing a lot. It's to be expected.

Can't get 300 LP? Bruh I haven't even won 2 matches in my 50+ so far lolol
EDIT: HOLY SHIT just won my 2nd after this comment lol

Did you buy a fight stick just for two days of play ??

Well. Bison and Laura are my two. I think I'm just going to stick with them in the end. They're so much fun. Bring on launch day.

IMO it takes longer than that just to adapt to a fight stick. I would give it more time.

So there isint any real way to play with friends in the beta?

My roommate and I tried setting our connection range to 5 only and started casual matchmaking at the exact same time. After 45 seconds of searching it put me up against a teleporting lagger from Spain. So...no

Training mode can help you learn a few combo's, but it can't teach you how to throw it all together at an appropriate time during a fight. That takes a huge amount of practice. I can guarantee you that everyone that's beaten you online was also terrible after 2 days of having played Street Fighter the first time.

I think it's time to retire my Necalli for this beta and start messing around with new characters. My all time high was around rank 2500 and over 1600 LP.

Are Gief players doing something to make the Air-SPD easier? Some of these people have ridiculous reaction times if not.

you do kind of a tiger knee motion with the EX one, start from down back and hit both punch buttons as soon as you hit forward-up and start your jump. Its hitbox is...well, the skies get protected.

regular version is a lot harder to land but that EX version is bananas.

Good lord.
I'm so bad.
Started again with Dhalsim and couldn't do anything, lost everything against the simplest tactics.

Switched to Birdie and I'm having a much better time, I feel like I can actually control space much more and I'm winning more than half of my matches.

I'm playing so lame, however.
All I do is block block block and then either punish or just poke with Hp, Mk and Mp with cr.Mp locking jump-ins down and the occasional Bull Revenger to catch people that try and flee or a lp Bull Head for people that spam rushing moves.
The Hanging Chain is basically never really seen (although I should try and implement it for people that wiff random DPs from half a screen away instead of doing nothing), the Killing Head is a pipe dream.
Once in a while (actually quite a bit more than once in a while) I just tilt and lose rounds that I was having an easy time with by just pressing too many buttons.

I mean, I don't have anything against this style in general and I'm learning the stuff I can and can't get away with, but at the same time I feel like I really need to try and implement some stronger punish than just throwing people when they get impatient and rush at me and I'm not even attempting to. To be fair, I'm not even sure what said stronger punishes could be, and I can't land a link to save my life.
