The New Hampshire Primary |Feb 9|: Live Free or Die

NH primary day.

Being blindsided sucks, and we were definitely blindsided in 08. I remember a lot of people thinking a commanding win, which the polls suggested was possible, would essentially hand us the nomination early and we'd be able to coast to the convention. Personally I never thought that, given the Clinton machine and the various things I had seen from them, but I definitely thought Obama would "probably" be the nominee if he won NH.

However things began to turn as results came in and we noticed we were under performing in multiple districts. Exit poll conversations showed that many voters were upset at how the media had treated Hillary, and some were upset with how Obama had treated her. I think that crying moment became a rallying cry for many women in the state who saw what they perceived as a fellow woman being treated unfairly.

The two biggest personal takeaways I remember from that night and the day after:

1. Veteran leadership matters. The Obama staffs were often quite young but we also had various people who had worked on campaigns decades before some of our people were born. Many of those people had experienced electoral defeats before and were a calming influence for the younger people who thought Obama was simply going to coast to victory.

2. The candidate matters. Obama's speech that night completely changed the narrative for many of us. Yes we had lost, but Obama rallied us back in a way I didn't even think was possible. It's hard to explain. I think that night was one of the defining moments of the campaign. I don't know of many politicians who could have done what Obama did in that speech, or the conversations he had with some staff folks in private afterwards. That was the night where I realized that I'd do just about anything for him.

Reggie Love?

There's dozens of us!

Going to try to make it to the polls tonight, I work in Mass and it's an hour commute. Gonna cut it close :(
(Forgot to do an absentee ballot)

Dozens, huh? I think your the first one I've met in about in the 5+ years I've been on the board, lol, but it's good, so I don't feel like a lone ranger anymore!

Now get back to your district and vote!

Nah I don't know how many there are lol. I think you're the only other person from NH I've seen.

Believe me I'm gonna try to make it. I don't know how strict they are with the 8PM end. I'm hoping to make it in the parking lot by like 7:55

CNN has too many utterly unlikable pundits/party strategists, it's especially grating when they seem to be wrong quite often and seem detached from reality

I guess they don't have much to actually talk about =/

I think this "Kasich/Huntsman is reasonable" thing is like a defense mechanism. That surely there must be one sane man among the bunch who is like a salve on the worst fears of the anti-Republicans. There must always be the lone figure standing against the darkness. Rockefeller, H.W. Bush, McCain, Powell, etc.

Just in case.

Just leave work early and break through the 95/93/3 traffic They can't hold it against you if your leaving to vote, lol.

Powell, .

Would have been the first African American president years ago if he wanted it. Dude was great! Not black, not white, just a true leader of Americans. That is what we fu(king need right now...

Trump has to fucking win else we risk getting a Rep in the house plz no. What sacrifice do i have to do to the gods for the US to stop shitting the middle east?? 40 years of stupidity i can't take it anymore.

I can't watch those anymore. I'll just tune in around 9pm or so to see who won. All they do is pander. CNN lately has been airing so much Trump stuff, its nauseating.

Gonna say something controversial. I wish Romney were still around.

Face it everyone, Mittmentum was a hell of a lot more fun to say than Kasichmentum or Jebmentum.

I know you probably have the campaign funding bookmarked somewhere, Benji so I'm curious. Does Kasich even have the money to keep going on much longer in other states even with a second place finish?

For how much you participate in Trump threads I would think you'd dig that. They air Trump stuff for the same reason there are so many Trump threads on gaf.

I'd vote for Nixon before any of these dudes on the GOP side today.

Nixon was a virulent racist who was into dumbass escapades on foreign soil to promote U.S. interests through violence, but at least he was also cool with spending money on infrastructure and actually trying to protect the environment. These people don't even have that much on their resumes.

Yes, I'm saying that Nixon is significantly to the left of Kasich.

Pretty sure Kasich is only running because it's the only way he knows to escape Ohio.

I think Powell would take issue with your assertion that he isn't black, and probably wouldn't agree with your insinuation that Obama isn't a leader for all Americans either.

Kasich had more money at the end of the year than Chris Christie. He got a big $12 million single donor outside group dropped in his lap by somebody in July that paid for all his ads.

eh it's a relatively new job and we're understaffed. I might push the idea and see where it gets me lol

Oh, got yeah. You don't want to push too much too early.

Way to take that literally; damn politicians, lol.

Really though, he was a strong leader, but didn't want to deal with the presidential nonsense, which is understandable. He would have been an excellent president either way.

He'd probably be better than any offering on the GOP side this year, I'll give you that.

Kinda odd topic, but that's ok. Do any of you remember the show Heartland with John Kasich on Fox News years ago? I used to watch it sometimes and remember thinking he was a likable guy back then.

We vote exclusively by mail in Oregon, Washington, and Colorado. THAT is privacy. And in Oregon you're automatically registered to vote if you have a mailing address.

In all three of these states you can legally smoke a blunt and vote at the same time from your couch. Are other states even trying?
So jealous

Yes, it was after his 18 years in Congress and before his days at Lehman Brothers.

He also used to guest host O'Reilly a lot. His show was like a worse version of it.

Whats wrong with him? I've just known him by the debates. Can't be any worse than Cruz and Trump.

He should be saint like compared to those.

He's far more conservative than his reputation suggests. What he does have going for him is that he's more pragmatic than the others, but he's in no way the moderate that people make him out to be.

Preliminary exit poll results from ABC. These seem to be trickling out.
