People remember the Fassbender Nazi hunting scene that opened the film. The rest of the movie was able to coast on that scene's good impression. Also, it was the first decent x-film in 8 years.
Spot on.

It's a real shame we never got that solo Magneto film. I feel like that could have done just as well as First Class just by having Fassbender be boss as fuck for 2 hours.

Didn't some of the proposed Magneto: Origins movie get cannibalized for First Class? I thought I'd heard that somewhere, although it could just be speculation that got repeated enough it became fan-fact, such as it's worth.
The aforementioned nazi hunting scenes were pretty much directly from the script for the Magneto film.

Jackman's Magneto Theme is the only thing in any of these films with the catchiness of the cartoon theme, too.

Glad the movie is doing well. A higher budgeted sequel that doesn't have to spend half the run time on an origin story has the potential to be even better.

Also it was a Mathew Vaughn directed film, and Vaughn films are all fantastic.

I'd agree that Deadpool is the 2nd best X-men property movie after First Class. It's pretty good and treats the source with respect. The main difference between it and something like First Class is Deadpool is 300 different joke attempts where some work, some don't, and the film's pretty uneven because of it, even though more work than don't. Otoh, First Class is just a very polished film well made superhero film with performances that rise above most comic movies.

Also maybe in the minority here but Vaughn is a great action director, so the action scenes are way better in FC than Deadpool which feels pretty amateur in action direction.

Seeing this tonight and really looking forward to it

Hope it allows for more R-rated comic book movies

Also stoked for Cable, don't even have to let people know he's a mutant or from the future, just a badass

It's on record somewhere that parts of Goyer's script was worked into First Class

Frankenstein's Monster
X-Training
Magneto

Are my fave songs on that soundtrack.

My favorite overall Jackman track is Taking A Stand from CA:TWS.

for real.

this movie being a success proves that being super true to the source material and being r rated can still bring in the money

GIVE ME YELLOW SPANDEX

Reynolds and Jackman are besties. A Deadpool/Wolverine buddy action comedy with Jackman would be fucking spectacular. Jackman has basically already said he'd be Wolverine again if it was in a Deadpool movie.

This fucking shit needs to happen so I can die happy.

Just throw Deadpool in Wolverine 3. It hasn't started shooting yet at least

I swear people only remember McAvoy and Fassbender from First Class, and block out some of the other parts.

I re-watched First Class recently and it has a lot more of the cheesy superhero movie parts than I remembered. Lot's of corny dialog and "moments", especially from some of the side characters.

I liked Beast, Mystique, Moira, Havok and the Hellfire Club too. I know what I like about the movie. It's DoFP I don't love as much.

And it's not like Deadpool has any substance outside of the main character. I would've been happy if they eschewed the origin story and any scenes he wasn't in. Whenever Deadpool's not on screen, all I'm asking is "Where's Deadpool"?

Frankenstein's Monster
X-Training
Magneto

Great soundtrack selections right here.

So happy this does well. Hope to see more R-rated superhero movies next.
Bring on R-rated Blade, Ghost Rider and Justice League Dark!!

You mean another R-rated Blade?

They could bring back Wesley Snipes, Jessica Biel, and Ryan Reynolds playing not-Deadpool.

Can we get a sequel to the Deadpool game too now?

We might get another one in the sequel movie by Platinum since Activision might still have the rights to Deadpool games. A bit too late for Platinum to work on the game right now since the movie is out now.

Fox needs to make that last Wolverine movie R-rated. They fucking need to. I want to see Hugh Jackman slicing some fools and turning them into red mist.

Comic games that aren't movie tie ins work best. Like the Arkham games

No need to make the game revolve around the movie

No joke. I don't think I've liked any of the X-Men films but that scene was ace.

The cool thing about minor, less popular heroes is they can always roll them off to Netflix and still make bank.

Works for marvel at least, wonder if Fox would be down to do similar.

Remember heading Fox made some sort of deal with Marvel to make it happen. Wonder what it took for Marvel to accept a deal with them.

I don't think they had to do a deal at all. There was a report that basically suggested everyone had misunderstood the original licensing agreement (including Fox to some extent) if I remember correctly. I think this was about a year or two ago.

I really enjoyed the action scenes in DP. I felt like I was able to follow the action very well, which isn't always the case in super hero movies. Obviously they weren't as big or complex as others due to budget constraints, but IMO they fit with the story and DP overall.

As recently as last year (at upfronts, I think) Fox said that they had to talk to Marvel about it, but when they announced the show they didn't really say anything to the effect of having reached a deal. I wouldn't be surprised if you're right, but I don't think anyone has come out and said that.

With the success of the film wonder if they'll be another game for Deadpool, doesn't Activision still have the licensed for it... Platinum could make a game.

A super-complex character action game would be a terrible fit for Deadpool. Platinum doesn't need to develop everything, especially not a Deadpool game.

What do you mean by complex, exactly?

I don't think anyone's saying it has to be Bayonetta level of crazy depth or anything. I think around the same level of depth of say, Transformers Devastation would work (not as complex as Bayo but still plenty of combos and neat tricks to keep it interesting).

The marketing campaign has really been on point for this but I'm still half surprised by the predicted figures for this weekend. I look forward to watching his tomorrow.

You're right, Platinum doesn't have develop everything, From Software should obviously do it.

Shocked man. I thought this movie would bomb for sure. Even after the trailers.

On top of that, its getting great reviews. The low budget (for a superhero movie) actually proved beneficial as the team that worked on this was allowed to take greater risks.

........I'm still shocked.
