It's an ELO-like system, you don't get many points if you beat lesser players. It's a good system.

I imagine it is on paper but It's not that good a system when it keeps pairing me with "lesser" players every single time, I don't mind gaining little points, it's losing the vast of points that irritates me the most.

Got through normal survival with ken easily enough, tonight its time for hard 😭. Need to get that fight money for the DLC characters done asap.

How is Mika for semi beginners? she seems rather technical, only tried her very briefly.

Had fun though, being a huge wrestling fan haha.

She requires proper knowledge of how to pressure properly before you can really be good with her.

You can still play her and git gud with her though. Honestly just play who you enjoy playing. You can learn the fundamentals with any characters and you can adapt your skills according to the type of characters you like to play as.

Ha, yeah. It's like this with Windows:

I DON'T TRUST YOU

EDIT: Pic I found on Google Image Search. Not my ghetto ass laptop
That pic gets me every time lmao

Wouldn't recommend her for beginners, she's technical and doesn't have strong wakeup options which will level newcomers feeling vulnerable. Learn the fundamentals of the game with a balanced character before you choose a low health grappler.

She's not too hard to learn. Learn her buttons, anti-airs, her basic combos (lk, mp, and mp shooting peach for ex.) and her jumping lk crossup for starters. You have to put time in with her to learn.

I can imagine that this game is probably a beginner's nightmare. Considering I played a decent amount of SF4 and the previous versions back in the day, winning rank matches online is almost as hard as winning the lottery for me for some reason. Yeah, it is a different game, but seriously, the amount of seemingly solid to good players online this early is intimidating. Is it me or is the matchmaking really bad? Maybe worst than MK10 was when it first came out.

I remember losing my first 28 ranked games online in SF IV before my first win.

In V I haven't played a ranked match yet.

Because the game is new the match making is not 100% there yet. In the future you will not be connected to players with 2000 more points than you. You will most likely stay around your league bracket. So for rookies this means they will mostly be playing rookies and bronze.

Give it time to stabilize and also for the playerbase to spread out in the leagues once the servers begin updating properly

There's a control panel on it that'll allow you to switch the stick setting to d-pad, left analog, right analog. Switch it to d-pad.

haha wow thanks a lot I never thought to fiddle with that. Now it's working great, best £40 I've spent in a long time.

Finally been getting some matches and even though I just got my stick today I feel like I'm doing okay with Karin. I'm whiffing a bit but my execution will get better the more I practice. Already won two matches in casual though and man it feels great!

I have played many matches and most players online are noobs. Im unable to play ranked matches though it takes too long. Battle lounge is a faster way to play.

Was planning on waiting but I cracked. Long time [casual] SF fan and I've main'd Cammy forever but Idk, while familiar she also feels wildly different. Also Laura looks really intriguing to learn. Decisions.

Found another rage quitter with 2200 LP and a 29 win winstreak. He was absolute garbage lol.

I hope they force Capcom employees to play this game themselves and experience this glory.

I have no idea how quitting and disconnecting keeps people's streaks. so lame.

Interesting. Most of the players I face have between 800-2000 LP literally everytime it seems. I am currently at a little under 300LP and I think that is as high as I will try for now.

Yup, I've played Street Fighter all my life since the SFII SNES days and only really took a mini break with SFIV. The amount of competent to really good online players I've encountered already in Week 1 is shocking to me.

Do elaborate what's stupid about the system that's being used successfully in Dota, CSGO, Rocket League and many others

Trapping players ina game they don't want to be in is shitty design.

Successful in Rocket League? Bullshit, just get people go afk instead, or score own goals to troll, and the other players on the team are fucked if they want to leave.

Bought the game today and just got bodied by everyone I faced, as expected. Bleh. It's good fun though, each match I'm doing more damage to the opposition, but I'm not good enough/don't know the moves enough to get that victory just yet.

Are there any decent guides for people new to the game?

That's bullshit though. Why would you do that?
It's against Twitch rules:
"Any activity, such as cheating, hacking, botting, or tampering, that gives the account owner an unfair advantage in a online multiplayer game, is prohibited."

Capcom has been releasing character guides on YouTube lately. you should watch those.

Gonna stick to casual and battle lounge with friends for a bit myself after training and getting fight money. I'm not ready for ranked

Haha I can't even get past Super Bronze. I love R. Mika but I don't really ever feel confident yet with her, I still feel like I'm helpless in certain situations or I just freeze up because the animations of the game confuse me. May try and just play Ryu a bit to see if I can raise the ranks a bit more.

If there's anyone who thinks they have a really good R. Mika want to give me some pointers please feel free to share. I think I'm pretty good but I feel like I'm missing something important with her playstyle.

You can check out a bunch of my matches here (some are from beta 4):

The way the ranking system functions, the entire community should see a gradual inflation towards the upper ranks. The more you play the higher you will go, even if you are only winning 50% of matches, because wins are on average, more rewarding than losses are punishing.

That's why the ranking system goes up to 30,000 points or so.

Those guides are a bit shit to be honest.
how much FM do you get for a ranked victory again?

50

hey GAF, would you recommend me SFV just for local multiplayer?

That's actually where the game shines, when you just play offline with your buddies. It's the online component everyone's been complaining about.
