Although I am against Trump, I am not concerned about the republican party losing control of its own politics and letting Trump steamroll the entire GOP field to the nomination.

However I am not ok with what it says about our country that Donald Trump can win the nomination of any party saying the things he's saying and I fear what implications his nomination might have in the general. I want to believe he will get wiped out in the GE.

Edit: Trump does not get 100% of the republican vote or anywhere near it. More Republican voters would stay home or vote across party lines than they did for McCain 08 or Romney 12 and Romney was a RINO and McCain straight up unhinged. Neither of them united actual republican voters in the GE and I think Trump would do worse than them.

Look on the bright side of this, guys. If Trump becomes president, I can get a lucrative career writing & selling pilots of dystopian tv shows to network executives. All I need is Ivysaur to hook me up, and I'm set for the next 8 years!

Think anyone will drop after Nevada?

For real, I thought Bush would last longer.

Nobody has any reason to. Rubio, Cruz and Kasich all have favorable states coming up, while Carson just wants to sell books.

They don't want to be the first ones to blink. Jeb had no shot at all, but those three could, in theory, still make it.

The math is just not adding up for Bernie to win. And that is without counting Hillary's pledged super delegates.

Super delegates will not decide the race. If they were to decide, it would be a huge shitstorm and alienate ton of supporters of the losing candidate and democrats would simply lose.

Kasich might drop by then, but Cruz & Rubio will fight each other as long as possible for the right to be the one to enter the Thunderdome with Trump, and Carson will keep running this primary race until around 2026 or so.

Carson will drop once they kick him out of the debates. He's still in the one on Thursday so he stays in until Super Tuesday. The rest will stay in also. Hopefully Trump does a clean sweep on Super Tuesday and Rubio gets some more 3rd and 4th finishes.

Kasich is getting establishment votes that Rubio needs, and Carson/Cruz votes aren't necessarily just Trump voters. Carson's appeal is his demeanor, when he drops his voters aren't going to run to Trump who is the exact opposite in personality
I have a theory that not only is Kasich looking forward to his own favorable states: he's also waiting in the wings in the event that Rubio has another horrible public incident on the scale of his robotic debate performance. One incident is recoverable.. but a second one could give establishment folks jitters about possibly backing an unreliable candidate.

So Kasich lurks, waiting..

And some of us even made luxourious profits from doing so! KA CHING

The classiest profits we've ever seen!

I can see this. He probably figures that once Trump turns his cannons on Rubio that it will only be a matter of time until he falls apart and the establishment needs another savior.

at this point it seems like Hillary could go either way whereas trump is literally inevitable.

No, Hillary is also inevitable at this point.

Hopefully, the disillusioned youth vote pulls up their big boy/girl pants and go out and vote for Hillary, because Trump may actually have a chance if he keeps pulling in new voters.

I'm more terrified about the people voting for Trump than Trump himself.

I see so much outrage at Trump for his antics, but where is the outrage for all the extremist right-wingers voters GIVING HIM the power to do this?

It looks like around 36% of the country SUPPORTS Trump.

36% of Americans... Forget the one guy named Trump. There are millions of American's who believe everything he says.

That is what I'm more concerned about. Trump is not just one man anymore - he represents more than 1/3rd of the country's national philosophy.

Racist country with a racist history is racist. Shocking but true.

Trump is going to be the GOP nominee. I can't see a scenario where this isn't the case.

Unless the party intervenes- He will be the nominee.

I can see the argument for a brokered convention and saving face this election cycle, and just toss this one up to the democrats.

That could happen but I really don't think the leadership is going to go through with it. But holy shit if they do....

If Trump plays his cards right he could actually grab quite a bit of that Sanders vote. I could see him adopting the money out of politics platform and leveraging that against Hillary. Who knows, maybe even more "radical" things like legalized marijuana. These are all general election pivots of course, not expecting anything like that just yet.

Nah, 36% of republicans, so less than 20% of the populace currently. Still, terrifying.

The problem with the brokered convention idea is that, in order to be considered in a brokered convention, the rules say a candidate must have a majority of delegates from eight different states. Who else is going to pull that off? Even for Rubio, who has maybe the best position after Trump, it would be a fight. Which means to stop Trump, not only would they have to take it from him in a brokered convention, which looks shady enough, they'd have to change the rules the night before the convention to do it.

It's going to absolutely fucking surreal when Donald Trump becomes the official Republican candidate for president. I mean it seems so inevitable at this point but when that day comes, wow.

and still the lame stream media is still peddling the Rubio narrative. The media trying to invent a story out of nothing.

I hope Rubio wins nothing just to throw it back at the dumb ass media like CNN trying to make up a narrative that isn't there

Party intervention = Chaos. Worse than 1968. RNC should just eat shit and let Trump ride it out. Otherwise there's going to be riots.

Did you listen to the latest This American Life, featuring the 18 year old gay, black Trump supporter talking about bootstraps? Never before had I wanted to yell at a podcast.

Honestly I'm not surprised, America has been pretty racist and terrible in the past with stuff like the trail of tears and the Japanese interment camps, so it shouldn't be surprising to see that we haven't gotten away from those roots quite yet despite all the progress that seemingly has been made since.

What is wrong with people? Seriously. Where did all these Trump voters come from?

So fucking gross.

they always have been there all along. The Republicans have created this breed since Nixon's Southern strategy

it's just that Trump is winning the brunt of them over.

Don't blame Trump. Blame the modern Republican Party for creating this beast

Of course. Media wants their HORSE RACE. The Outsider vs the Establishment! Deadheat! They bring GOP party shills to peddle Rubio's candidacy.

It will almost certainly come down to Trump VS Hilary and I am pretty sure Trump has a lot more momentum then Hilary will.

Pretty sure at this point that Trump will be our next president. I didn't think it was possible when he started running but here we are...

What is wrong with people? Seriously. Where did all these Trump voters come from?

So fucking gross.

They've always been there. It just hasn't been okay for them to go out and openly act that way. Remember that woman that John McCain had to correct for calling Barack Obama an Arab because of all that birther nonsense? She was one of those people. All Trump did in his campaign was make them feel okay with being themselves in public because he prefers not to use the subtlety that other candidates did.

Nah, 36% of republicans, so less than 20% of the populace currently. Still, terrifying.

Around half of the country will vote for him, not matter what. And if you commit to vote for a guy, even if you don't like him, you start to explain away some of his "worst behaviour". It's just a thing that happens, and it's the reason the "Bush kept us safe" line stuck as long as it did.

So come November, almost half of the country will vote for an openly racist candidate, and rationalise it somehow. This will have major, negative repercussion on the entire political system, even if he loses. Candidates down ticket in safe red states will have to adapt their message, or abandon their electorate. And that's the optimistic scenario. Shit sucks.

They've been here for decades. Centuries even. They wanna go back to the good ol' days when white supremacy wasn't frowned upon.

See to them it's racism against whites. They truly believe that people who strive for equality actually want to get rid of white people. Hence the whole anti political correctness thing.

It's basically the same twisted and selfish mentality as people who think their religious freedoms are being violated when gay people can be married.

I honestly doubt that half the country will vote for Donald Trump...I think a lot of people will just stay home.

Trump would need white conservative male turnout to be the highest it's been in a century to get over his lack of minority support.

Yep, I think Republican turnout will be pretty low. Moderate Republicans don't want to be associated with Trump.

guys calm down, he isn't winning the general election

the gains made by George W. Bush among Hispanic voters have been completely destroyed by current Republicans. Trump destroyed it even more.

Trump's pro-police statements of militarizing the police won't win much African-American voters out either

Trump has pissed off so many groups that he can't win the big one.

Him winning the GOP nomination is awesome because it equals an instant win for any Democrat. Yeah, even Bernie could beat Trump

I know, which is why I put the qualifier "currently" in my post bro

Yes this. Guys he could do more for the Democratic party than GOP. The GOP is terrified of Trump, they want Rubio because he'll fall perfectly in line with the Republican-led Congress. Trump is wild and uncontrollable. If Trump were to win the primary, it could be that less Republicans show up and participate in the down vote, because they're so disgusted with Trump. The down vote is for other candidates in the state level. With less conservatives coming out to vote, Congress could flip and become Democratically led again. All because of Trump. Right now all of the delegates are going to come out for Rubio. Just watch.

Clinton's going to win anyway so who cares.
