The thing is skilled players don't wanna touch the mode because it's vs cpu which they don't give a shit about. Ya they might do it once for colors maybe, even then it's such a grind they don't really care. So then who is this mode catering to?

ToolAssisted

Why can't it be a mode meant for everyone to suffer through, equally?

I mean it is called "HELL" for a reason...

Lol, good point.

Also I just figureed something out. You don't have to charge Necalli's disc guidance if its used in a combo. This makes it so much easier!

You know, one thing about combos in SFV that bums me out is that they're super linear compared to SFIV. I hated one-frame links more than anyone and execution issues specifically prevented me from playing a good portion of the cast, but the thing about SFIV is that there was a "gradient" of things you can do.

Do you want to do the easy punish for acceptable damage or do you want to do the harder punish for big damage, but with more inherent risk of dropping the combo?

SFV it's just, do your one ultra-reliable BNB target combo knockdown into rushdown tick throw or meaty setup over and over again.

I'm trying to do a simple l.k, l.p, h.dp. I keep putting the critical art in because I start the Z motion from holding down. Limitations of the Dualshock are setting in...

Try doing cr.HP (down), forward, QCF + P (DP), QCF + P (CA). Might be easier.

Don't mash. If you do a c.HP first, try doing one of two things (either works):
1) Let the stick return to a neutral position before doing the SRK.
2) Perform a motion that would negate the CA input from the reader. For example, if I am walking forward and want to do a Hadoken, I will do a HCF motion instead of a QCF motion.

Thanks. I'm a noob so I wasn't sure what SRK was, but the HCF instead of QCF for the combo to come out the way I wanted it worked. Just have to practice it now. Forgot to mention I am on a DS4.

Good to see the maintenance is going swimmingly

Honestly, it getting extended makes more optimistic. They came back early from the last maintenance window (was it Saturday) and things didn't improve that much. :D

I'd rather them keep extending this one until they're pretty sure they've got the matchmaking speed, sending fight results to server and battle lounge stabilized.

Is the game back up?

They just extended the window another hour. Scheduled to be back up 5pm PST/8PM EST now.

Is that his berserker barrage type dash attack? I was thinking about trying some Necalli tonight so that's good to know.

Or you have characters with no bnbs like Gief outside of very specific situations lol

It's week 1, how are you so sure this doesn't exist for SFV?

Everyone is playing at such a a low level; it's easy to take for granted how much SFIV and it's meta evolved over the years.

Ohhhhhhhhhh... Yeah the D-pad on the Dualshock 4 is trash compared to even the Dualshock 3's D-pad.
When Xbox One's D-pad beats the Sony one for a generation, that's bad.

Try finding a Hori Fight Commander 4... I got one at GameStop the other day for $20... The D-pad is serviceable.

The guy in question is me and I'm currently at 750k.

- All story done
- All easy survival done
- All normal survival done
- All hard survival done
- 3 or 4 hell survivals done

That's nice.

I'm at 325k fight money, Cleared all story, easy survival, a few normal survival courses and Ryu's hard one. Not sure I can do it with everyone.

Your survival achievements are impressive. Would you share any tips for beating the AI please? I've barely done Hard as Ryu, some advice would be appreciate as I have no idea how I would clear it with say, Zangief, but I still would like some extra colors unlocked.

Yeah man, been eyeing it. Think I'm going to bite the bullet on payday. I don't mind limitations due to knowledge, but when the hardware sets me back it's incredibly frustrating. I'm tempted to just go HAM and get a stick, but I think I'll try the FC4 and see if I really want to get serious about SFV. I'm still pretty much a noob to the fighting game scene, but I've been absorbing for a while now.

Was just thinking:

Ken's St.HK crush counters right? You can follow that up with a hard DP, right? So do you have to use his v-run to get in close enough, or can you just do the hard DP?

If you can't just do it, is that a cancel off of the St.HK?

So:

1) St.HK xx v-run, hard dp

Or

2) St.HK, v-run, hard DP

Or

3) St. HK, dp

Which one is it? Hopefully I explained myself right.

This is not my experience. The ds4 is easilly the best dpad I've ever used for fighters. I can't even touch the ds3 anymore

You v-run cancel it. You may not even have to cancel into it... but I always do. I should test that.

I love his st.hk. On crushes you can v-skill into dp. On hits you can v-trigger into a full combo.

I don't know if that's completely true. There's variance in what combo you choose in a few different ways.

1) Depending if you want to spend meter and you can extend the combo, with most of the cast, using either EX or V-Trigger. Of course, this was in IV but it's worth mentioning.

2) Spacing. There's certain combos that may maximize damage but I won't do because I have be a little too far out to land a key link, so I guess with the less damaging but more reliable combo.

3) Karin has just frame moves which increase damage (and change the hit stun animation) although I don't think they change the structure of the combo any.

Personally, I'm glad one frame links are gone but I'm not totally opposed to them. I didn't like them in 4 where they were dropped at the beginning or middle of combos which essentially put you in an unfavorable situation if you missed the timing. I'd be fine if they were situated more at the end of combos where you can do an easy link to finish the combo or try for a one frame link to do a good chunk more damage. You would be at a disadvantage if you missed the timing as opposed to in 4 where you could eat a huge punish if your opponent was competent.

Guys ,can somebody give me a few combos for ryu to practice? Nothing fancy for now, I just want to start slowly

Some easy B&B's

1. His target combo - Medium punch -> Heavy Punch -> Heavy Kick: This is a nice easy hit confirm off the medium punch, you can also combo 2 medium punches together into this combo, so you can poke with MP and when it lands finish the sequence.

2. Easy neutral poke - Crouching Medium Kick xx Fireball (any punch): This is an easy blockstring to do in neutral that is relatively safe.

3. Easy crush counter punish: Crush Counter Heavy Kick -> Forward Heavy Punch -> Medium Punch -> Heavy Punch -> Heavy Kick: With this you're just adding a forward heavy punch to the start of your target combo (#1), easy to do with big damage. If you're feeling frisky you can do a VTrigger after the heavy kick and immediately do a heavy Shoryuken to tack on some extra damage/stun

That's nice.

When the AI starts going HAM deeper into the survival runs the difficulty comes from the fact that it's reading your inputs and countering them. The trick is to give it nothing to read. Just sit tight and block, eventually it'll start throwing random moves at you that you can easily crush counter. Just requires some patience.

I feel completely the opposite! Hated the PS3 dpad, couldn't even do simple fadc's into ultra consistently with it. PS4 pad has been a huge improvement to me, I'm not a fan of the L2 and R2 for obvious reasons, but the dpad is great.

Damn #1 is awesome. I'm so not used to things linking from non light hits.

What I can tell you is that Fightsticks require commitment... Commitment I don't have.

I play at a certain level with a fightpad. I don't perform execution errors, I hold my own online.

I don't have the muscle memory or the patience and time to develop skills for a fight stick. I have multiple fight sticks and I just can't wrap my brain around certain motions no matter what... And the issue comes in when under pressure from a good opponent, I crack and end up making error after error with a Fightsticks.

So just realize that when you plunk down $$$ on a Fightstick, it is not a panacea to fighting game controls... There's a definite learning curve to them if you're used to playing on a pad...

Say what you will, but the Xbox One D-pad blows them both out of the water... I wish I could get a 6-face button controller with the Xbox One D-pad...

It's been 100% rock solid for Killer Instinct and Jago ...

I think in a world where fighters are overwhelming played online, one frame links are just unreasonable.

Excellent Mika post, all good info. The input of a command throw can sometimes feel like you need to stop whatever you're doing, but you can start the input while you're doing a jump/dash. It doesn't necessarily chain perfectly with attacks, but forward dash into the command grab is very fluid.
Thanks! Yeah, it also helps to just start inputting the halfcircle motion early.

This is all fantastic, thank you so much for writing all that out!
No prob at all, dude. The Mika Army has to help each other out after all!

Pretty much this. I tried a fight stick for the first time years ago....

I couldn't even do a fireball in training mode. It was crazy. I had never felt like that before. I felt like I was playing a video game for the first time in my life. I started breaking down and crying. I started worrying about things completely unrelated to gaming: bills, love life, coursework, my future, Chinese food.... You know, things that bothered me the most.

Needless to say, I never revisited stick again. I stick to pad. Had a terrible experience.

Nice, could not get the last one . Thanks

I can't believe how easy it is to accidentally Critical Art when performing a DP on Ryu. How do I stop this?

Edit: Wow, apparently me and NoSkillz187 above are doing the same thing...

Make sure your DP motion ends on a diagonal. SFV is really lenient on CA inputs, to the point that D,F,D,F+P will actually make it come out.

Where are my green hand red focus free momentum killer combos!

He doesn't need Greenhand. He has the strongman strongarm combos now. Which, imo, are better since it has super armor on startup.

It also crush counters too. Makes em twirl like a little girl.

Who did you beat hell mode with? I'm giving it a go with Sim and .... its beyond irritating.

Hahahahahaha! Yes!

I brought the first Fightstick I bought back to GameStop... "I need another one of these... This shit's broken! I play fighting games and this thing can't throw a hadouken to save it's life!"

Second stick... Same problem... And the third... Till I realized the problem was me.

I found some video on the Internet that showed me I was holding it wrong and that helped... But even though I figured out how to do DPs and fireballs, I was never comfortable with it...

They sit around in case anyone wants to challenge me in my house...

Dragon Punch/Spinning Mixer shouldn't be causing a freaking knockdown when trying to footsie. I got hit by the entire move of medium Spinning Mixer from the tip of Karin's crouching MK.

I'm so terrible at this game. I've won a couple matches online courtesy of Gootek's vid of basically doing 3 things with Ryu (cr.MK xx Hadouken, baiting jumps and using Shoryuken and grabbing) but other than that, my brain doesn't work fast enough to do anything else.

I've tried mixing up things by jumping in after a hard knockdown and doing that combo that is listed in Ryu's movelist (MP, HP, HK) but I find that it whiffs the HK quite easily, leading me to eat a combo.

Forget that I have V Trigger and CA most of the time until the last second and I usually die to a jab.

I'd like to use Rashid, but I don't think I'm even ready to tackle another character until I can get even the basics down with Ryu.

Don't worry, snake eyes and smug shows us it can be done with pad.

A friend showed me you only have to do two scoops for a special into a super.

For instance, for Ryu's fireball into super fireball it's a scoop + punch then two scoops and a punch. You actually only have to do one scoop punch then another one scoop punch. Neat.

I have an extra Ryu outfit if anyone wants to trade a Bison or Cammy. PM me.

Been playing this at lunch with people at work. Certainly if you have people to play with it's great and all the content complaints seem pointless. Thinking of buying it myself just for training mode - don't care about the lack of story mode or whatever.

Can't DP for shit :(

Um yea you do the charge is just really short. If you do one of his BnB combos with guidance and just tap b,f,p nothing will happen. Also just putting this out there if you hit someone with a basic cr mp poke with Necalli you can immediately link it into qcf mk, cr mp, qcf mk. Absolutely insane damage and stun build from a random poke.
