Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Hi everyone.

I'm a complete newbie to fighting games, I just recently purchased SFV and have been recommended to get a fight stick.

What would you guys recommend for a cheaper stick for a new person such as myself to look into purchasing?

Thanks in advance.

What is the difference between the Sanwa buttons and the Kuros buttons (which I assume Hori RAP4 comes with?).

Yeah, I honestly thought the buttons on RAP3 felt kind of cheap. Hope they feel better on the RAP4.

Kuros feel little bit more wider but I assume it is because they have sharper edges and maybe aren't as convex Sanwas. Sanwas also feel 'heavier' than Kuros. HRAP4 Kai should have Kuros though newer ones have Hayabusa buttons which I have no idea how they are.

hey man

you have allot of options

as a note if you like pads theres no need to goto a joystick 'just because'

Madcatz SE (or new you can find wwf version around)
MadCatz Alpha (newer)
Hori fighting stick mini 4

you can mod the Madcatz with a little know how if you want to get serious after

i have a couple SE(s) all are modded now

Has anybody found drivers which will work with a TE2+ on PC? Everything I've used refuses to acknowledge the stick, and so SFV won't work until they patch in DInput...

How come people love Sanwa so much but hardly anyone ever mentions Seimitsu. Was it Madcatz sticks using them so everyone likes/thinks they're the best?
When I got my Astro City way back the panel had Sanwa and Semitsu sticks (although hell if I know which specific models), I just ended up preferring the smoother feel of the Sanwa at the time. Since then my preferred is a Sanwa w/octagonal gate and Kowal actuator, the latter slightly tightens up the feel a bit, kinda tempted to try a spring mod to tighten it a bit more. At a certain point I should probably just try another Semitsu.

Now that I think about it, another reason I ended up with Sanwa was by default, when I got a replacement panel (cause the original was damaged/rusted pretty bad and had the VF 3 button layout) it was all Sanwa parts. I forget if it was a choice, but probably not considering I settled for a Blast City panel to begin with.

(...and I need to find a Blast City with an Astro City panel one day)
Yeah, I like that one too! I didn't order any blue buttons, but thankfully the stick comes with (dark) blue as factory so if I can put up with it feeling different, I might go that route.

I'm sure I saw a 6+2 button layout somewhere (likely SRK) because I don't think I would've come up with the idea myself! But definitely wanted both colours there.
Or get another stick for a complimentary all pink one!

Hey guys. I was just watching gootecks' fight stick guide/tutorial and he was using the first two fingers to press each button. Is this normal? I always imagined that you would use one finger for each button, like you were playing a piano.

What method should I be using or is it all a mater of preference?

I got the Venom stick 2 weeks ago and it's pretty good but I'm still wondering...
What is that area at the front side bottom on that stick? Some kind of sensor or something I dont know...?

I think that stick base is the same one that was used for the Mayflash v2 stick, which was an Xbox 360 & PS3 stick that had headphone jacks down there. So I guess they just used the same mold and blocked it off.

I can't play 3D on seimitsus, my inputs don't feel as clean. I miss easy stuff.

I have tried them over the years, and eventually settled on sanwa, and now the Hayabusa as my favorite stick.

I am familiar with fighting games but never used a stick. I have PS3 360 and xbox one.
Spending 150$ on a stick for it to work on just one platform is insane as I am not planning on going to tournaments and earn a living out of it.
Is there a universal stick i can buy to work on all those platforms?

It's preference. He double taps to get "more inputs." Personally I single tap and have a finger over each of the three punches and LK.

Upon some reviews and looks I think I might go with the Alpha.

Is anyone making hitbox style controllers for PS4/PC right now?

I mean, other than Hitbox, because they're listed as Sold Out with no ETA on stock, have not posted any status updates since like November, and their social media outlets are full of people asking (unanswered) if they even still exist or if the company's just a sham.

Hey GAF, got a TE round 2 and the ball on top of the stick got heavily damaged in transit. How on earth do I remove this? Doi have to buy an entirely new stick?

EDIT: JK, found a video where you remove the entire faceboard first. Hoo boy.

Use an allen wrench to take off the top and you should be able to easily remove the balltop by holding the botton bolt of the joystick in place with a flathead screwdriver and unscrewing the balltop.

You'll need a replacement though, any of these will do http://www.focusattack.com/controls/joysticks/joystick-accessories/balltop-handles/

Well at least those are all very affordable. And, it does actually work, so aside from feeling rough, it gets the job done until the replacement shows up.

Blurry pic!
Got my TE2+ and changed the art.

Didn't order any buttons or anything so it's fairly simple change (compared to my Qanba), but I'm satisfied with it. Accidentally damaged the art a bit under the L1 button, but can't really notice. I may fix it in the future.

Haven't tried the stick itself out yet, but I will say the foam padding on the bottom is really nice compared to the felt bottom of my Qanba.

HORI used confusion, and it is slightly effective.

HORI subtly releasing a new variation of the HRAP 4 Kai stateside... wait didn't they already release that in the US? no this one is the same name but different buttons (Hayabusa buttons), with slightly different art.

yep, its the same name, same catalog code too (PS4-015U)

funny too, some retailers seem to have taken down any sign of the Kuro Kai of ever existing.

I'm sorry MCZ but I can't wait any longer and this stock thing is unacceptable in light of a new major release. The main reason I wanted a TES+ is because I love the design without being overly large. I absolutely hate the design of current HRAP's. I saw an HRAP Pro v.4 Hayabusa and think that looks great, but it's only available in Japan and will take a month to get here. I love the look of their ps4 BlazBlue stick and it's cheap but it only has six buttons. I'm at the crossroads here and I just ordered an HRAP 4 Kai despite HATING how it looks. I absolutely hate it. But I need a stick, dammit.

Sorry MCZ. I wanted to help because you guys make good stuff and you need support and you're important to be FGC but I need a stick. If I've got the money in summer I'll buy a TES+ if you're still kicking.

Not sure if I can post here but I have a like new super street fight IV stick for PS3/4 I'm trying to sell. Much prefer playing on the dpad. Let me know if your interested. Thanks.

Don't worry, they can't afford a social media person anymore so they aren't reading this.

Wow, that's really nice, hope it comes to EU. Don't want't to import and RAP V new ver. right now.

Yeah, I posted about this a day or two ago. I got one from Amazon already and it was the new version.
The side buttons are rearranged, not sure if for better, just different. I do really like the new Hayabusa buttons. They feel really snappy and are so much better than the old Kuros. I like the textured button surface, but this may vary by preference.

Only issue, and this is a very minor one for most, but the ability to assign multiple buttons to the L1, L2 or option button no longer seems to work even though it's still stated in the manual and worked on the old model. You can only remap a single button. This wasn't an issue with my old version, but something I liked for certain games where some combinations weren't available in the in-game button config. Kinda bummed because I sold my old version to upgrade.

Do you hate it because of having the Start (...Option, bleh) button on the front?
Or just because of the art? Since Art's Hobbies sells plexi for it here.

since she mentioned liking the 4 hayabusa I doubt thats the problem. Probably the awkward indent in the 4 kai and 5.

I prefer the 4 hayabusa as well (I have an HRAP3SA, same case)

I'm kind of confused. Would say the new one is "better"? Also any pictures to differentiate the two or differences in boxes since the UPCs I assumed are the same? I mean I see a Kai on Amazon @ $150 and a Kai Silent for $170 are you talking about that? Looks like the side panels differ with the Kai having the PS4 button on the right, and the Kai Silent having the PS4 button in the middle

Hey guys never owned a stick despite having been on the edge of doing so quite a few times. I guess this is largely to being unable to try one out and my arcade experience back when those existed was very limited even more so with fighting games.

I'm still on the fence on buying a stick or building one, on the build front a strong possibility is actually an hitbox style design instead of stick, again this is due to my inexperience with arcade sticks and less learning curve, as I think I'd be able to execute things like specials 100% of the time vs learning a new input device.

Got a few questions if anyone wants to help and take a stab at:

- What are the main PCB options these days? I'm focused on PC though PS3/4 support would be nice to have, though it seems few seem to be able to do PS4 unlicensed.

- Stores shipping parts from the EU with decent prices

- "Cheaper" sticks one like the "Venom"/MC Alpha: are the buttons and stick usable before an upgrade is necessary or is it pretty much a PCB and a box with upgrades required straight-away. That's what I remember people saying about sticks such as the smaller Madcatz (Fightstick/Brawlstick) one that launched for SF4. For Xinput only games such what it looks to be SF5 for the moment, would xinput wrappers and tools such as DS4toPC work on these sticks without introducing significant lag?

Thanks to whoever takes the time to read :)

Wondering the same. Amazon seems to be selling the new model now as they advertise Hayabusa buttons.

I bought a HRAP4 from Frys this week and it was the old one. Anyone get a new model from there? The naming convention is super confusing. Are the Falcons/Hayabusa buttons noticeably better? I guess the only way you'd know for sure which one you are getting is by looking at the box as mine specifically says that it has the kuro buttons. Seems like they are just bringing the HRAPV to the US but as a HRAP4?
