Naughty Dog just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about developing concept art (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like being a game director, where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw over a fellow concept artist, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the gaming public that plays Ubisoft games, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Uncharted 4, nor will they purchase any of Sony's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Naughty Dog has alienated an entire market with this move.

Naughty Dog, publicly apologize and cancel Uncharted 4 or you can kiss your business goodbye.

I couldn't agree more.

Ironic that one of the best developers in the industry, with one of the most talented art teams would allow this to happen. Not like someone at the studio couldn't have just made something similarly functional in a relatively small amount of time.

I definitely wouldn't qualify Naughty Dog as lazy, seriously wonder how something like this happened.

This is embarrassing, but the saddest part is no one talks about one of the best trailers of generation now and the trailer went under the shadow of this. :(

Id say it's more than slight. To my eyes it's just as close as the Ellie to Ellen resemblance. The point is that this has become a pattern for ND at this point what with the unattributed artwork in TLOU and UC4 as well as unaccredited likenesses. I mean I can give them the benefit of the doubt once or twice but FFS this concept art ripoff is an absolute blatant cropped copy job.

Yeah, the concept art issue looks quite bad, regardless of the reason, but Nadine's slight (in my eyes) resemblance to that actress is a non issue, which is why it died right there in that slow and short thread.

Probably from one of the outsourced studios.

Either way someone did something.

Focusing on 1 platform, stealing artwork, etc...

No wonder they're able to do so much graphically, they just take the easy way out with everything else.

This is obviously embarrassing for ND but we don't know the full story here. It is pretty funny though reading all of these doomsday scenarios though. I'm sure there will be public statements coming soon.

I wonder how the person who added that AC artwork on the trailer thought it could get away with it and nobody would notice. On this era people will notice EVERYTHING in a matter of seconds when a new trailer is published.

Yeah, its hard to believe whoeever the person that threw that in there thought it would slip by. Lends credence to the idea that they either outsourced or purchased it, or made a mistake. I mean it was even in the art book, it's not like it was some obscure piece

That looks like a nice nod to AC actually.

I thought of it as a cheeky easter egg, and they actually go to that location so... I don't see the big deal.

This dev war stuff is pretty fun though.

This is my first reaction to all those too.

Does something like this needs to have permission before doing? If so thats another story....

Probably didn't expect it to be in a trailer.

I'd guess it was presented as concept art, then someone decided "Hey, this is good, let's use it in the game" and the thief was like

.

RexNovis double posting trying to get top of the second page was just sad.

On topic, they did something similar with TLOU and some subway map.

I didn't double post. I posted in seperate threads and they were merged. But please do continue slinging shit that you can't back up.

What if all videogames (except Uncharted) exist in the universe of Uncharted and Drake is a fan of that particular piece of gaming artwork?

Yeesh... reading all the different Uncharted threads on the front page is tough going. They're all basically just being used as agenda vomit threads by a lot of posters from the looks of things.

It's a shame, there's probably a legitimate point to be made with this coming off the thing with the maps on TLOU (Sorry guys, but treating the "Ellen Page" shit as something worthy of serious criticism is laughably dumb.) and what it suggests about the lax attitude of artists in ND's employ and whoever is responsible for vetting their work, but I somehow doubt that's what we're going to be getting in a thread with drive by posts about how "Naughty Dog aren't as good as fanboys say" or "Naughty Dog has the worst fanbase." somehow :/

ND really needs to have a talk with their artists about their reference material. They've been called out on stuff like this several times now, both for environment art and character likenesses. Hopefully this gets sorted out quickly.
for all we know, it could have been the same contract concept artist who did work for ass creed who just resubmitted to naughty dog

Pretty embarrassing but not the end of the world, it was most likely not intentional. Even if some people in this thread are probably currently standing next to a wall filled with ND artwork pictures with string tying them all together like they are Carrie fucking Matheson. When you outsource you can run into some issues like this. The picture is of something pretty generic. That kind of natural arch appears in all kinds of media. For example something very similar is right beside Costa Del Sol in FFXIV by the crab FATE. So I could see overlooking that it was ripped off concept art.

I honestly think this will never get old. :lol

Best GAF post ever.
