Street Fighter V |OT2| Another Fight Isn't Coming Your Way!

I wouldn't go this far personally, though that's probably just my perspective on who she is replacing. After years of fighting crappy Blankas back in the SFIV days before they nerfed him to borderline uselessness, at least Laura is already a useless character. She's only annoying character-wise unlike Blanka who was completely unfun to fight and an annoying character.

Now F.A.N.G, on the other hand...

Actually, aside from Rashid, I don't really have much of an affinity for any of the new characters in V.

Laura is alright in my book, at least in Japanese. I don't like how overly sexualized she is though.

F.A.N.G. is a weird one. On the one hand, the character archetype is interesting and fits perfectly (he's basically slimy Gen). Plus he's got DBZ's Pilaf/Raditz's Japanese voice, so he can't be that bad. However, I hate his design. Way too goofy and cartoony, even for Street Fighter. What's with the comically thin face anyway?

My pick for absolute worst character in SF history, aside from a good chunk of SF3's character (sorry, I hate Necro, Urien, Alex, and Twelve, they either don't fit SF or are ugly/boring in my mind), is Rufus. God is Rufus ugly and annoying. I hope he never makes a comeback. Birdie is a much better "fat-but-strong" character, and even he has his flaws. I don't get his obsession with food. It's neither funny nor endearing to me. But I love the character otherwise.

I love sweeping into v trigger with Ryu. If your quick enough, you can go straight to CA on hit. If it's blocked, v trigger is the way out of a punish most times. Good stuff.

OK. WTF is it with ranked matchmaking sometimes.

I just got done with about 15 matches. I was in Bronze level around the mid 700's in LP.

Out of the 15 matches, in 2 (two) of these I was matched up with others in Bronze (who after they beat me went to Super Bronze). Three I was matched up with Rookie's (my only 3 wins) the rest I was matched up with Super and Ultra Bronze players until finally I was dropped to Rookie League and then I was matched up with........a Silver player.

WTF.

Well, I bought the game off Amazon won't get here til Monday but I'm looking forward to sinking my teeth into this.

I only paid $28 because I traded in a game that gave me about $22 in Amazon credit and then the Prime discount as well obviously. Pretty good deal I'd say. :D

Yeah I haven't touched ranked in days untill they fix this and ragequitting. I've been playing casual matches for now and it's far more pleasant. I've only got people close to my LP there and no RQ at all.

You just contradicted yourself with your sentences... The guides are good for people that are new to SF and FGs but if they're new the concepts will go over their head? So they're bad?

LOL I shoulda proofread before submitting.

I mean the general overview of the video is fine for beginners demonstrating the moves and buttons. But they explain some of the concepts and counters to the moves but don't demonstrate anything (they just speak). So I feel those videos are only useful for someone fresh to the game and fighting games to earn a general concept of visually seeing the moves. Some of the tips they throw in are just a quick voice over without demonstrating the concept. So the intro part and overview of it is fine, but some of it requires someone to be knowledgeable in the game concepts/character for the most part. Otherwise the theory has no application to a newbie.

Example: Nash guide
If beginners use the knee boozooka they will just get punished on block so this move isn't being demo'd properly. Its just an example of them saying a move as a 'poke' but its not a good way to use it. Another part he explains a move is good for anti-air. "I'm new what is that? Can we see it in action?" The bison should have been pre-recorded to jump-in.

I feel like the videos need to decide if they want to be basic or fill in the info to reach that intermediate level. Here's a vid that could use come condensing but it immediately explains in a few seconds examples of how to use the knee. The nash guide could have sliced a few examples for each moveset to show use in situations, make sense?

Anyways, I don't mean to be a negative nancy ripping these capcom guides apart.

Any tips on Laura vs FANG matchup?
Just had a pretty bad fight with one. He would use his V-Skill and his overhead projectile to zone me. Couldn't get past it so I would take the V-Skill for some poison. Up close I couldn't connect cr.HP nor cr.MK into Bolt Charge. Even on block he would use EX Sotoja to confirm. After knockdown he would go to town with cross ups.

Allow me to enjoy this moment right now where I have attained the glory of Super Bronze, now i'll likely spend the rest of my time fluctuating between the cusp of this rank and falling back down into bronze but honestly this is better than I expected from myself before purchasing the game.

The server is fucking with me today

Using new character with a pad (can't use stick late at night because damn thing is so loud) is really awful. Everything feels so unfamiliar.

Incredibly it took this long to finally happen, but after 40 odd ranked matches I at last encountered a salty rage quitter, of course it was Ryu.
Now I feel my online experience is complete.

Wait what? Sweep, V trigger, Super works? The thought has crossed my mind but I never even attempted it because I felt sure it wouldn't work.

Birdie left Shadaloo because he didn't want to wear a hat. That's how ballin' he is.

F.A.N.G. is such a weird one for me. As a charge character whose shtick is to poison and turtle, he should be right up my alley, but he isn't. I think I just don't like his weird normals.

I can't get this to work even with a point blank sweep and using heavy CA. The opponent is too close to the ground when the CA freeze happens, and the fireball whiffs. Is there any specific distance or CA version or is the timing just really tight?

i guess with super it would guard break haha. if you can gurantee guardbreak with super off a sweep vtrigger on block, that's pretty nasty for closing out rounds

Can anybody share a nice Ken V-trigger combo? I have the following one at the moment, don't mind the reset. Just wondering if there is something better I could be doing with a one bar combo?

Ken V-trigger combo

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42yqBD3O95c about all could muster on a day of playing with ken, I have a hadoken one as well but its pretty much the same as your video

on a side note has anyone had any thing funky happen with the frame rate whilst playing survival mode? e.g something like this?

Whoa, all my stats are gone for my matches pre fight. Weird.

I see this all the time, assumed it was ongoing problems with the servers. They'll always be there when I start the game, but after a couple or more, they just disappear completely. Matches still run fine and upload properly to server, but the prematch info just never loads anymore or something. Same thing happens to quality indicators, etc. when searching for Battle Lounges. Restarting the game always seems to fix it, so maybe there's a client software bug hiding somewhere in there.

Sacrilege! Urien is the GOAT!

Most of the rage quitters I've played against have been Ryu players as well.

ggs. Was it as jittery for you as it was for me?

Try using Nash's V-Reversal more often. When it comes to breaking out of pressure, it's almost as good as his V-Trigger and only costs half the meter. For a while I was just getting away with murder when it came to crush counters on wake-up; you can V-Reversal out of that fairly easily and force me to go to throws on wake-up more often. The only things Nash can do on wake-up without being heavily punished for it either use V meter or an entire super bar. (Or just block, and force the opponent to go to throws earlier.)

Ggs, was a little bit jittery (felt like the game ate some inputs). Nash's wakeup is ridiculously bad, only thing I hate about him.

maybe it's just me but sometimes wins just aren't satisfying.

Certainly. When I get a win following a crazy scramble or after falling for a certain tactic the opponent kept doing for too long, I'll sometimes just shake my head because of how poorly I was doing. Not all wins feel the same, and I don't feel great when it's a match I probably shouldn't have won or because I was just playing like crap.

Mika's wake-up is pretty bad too, as are most characters'. (I think only 4 characters have meterless invincible reversals, which are pretty punishable when whiffed.) When you do score a hard knockdown, like from a crush counter sweep, make sure to take advantage of it and apply pressure somehow. I feel like you let me up pretty easily most of the time.
