I reecntly modded HRAP 3s with new art and padhacked PS4 PCBS:

Thanks.
About the padhacked PS4 PCB, do you think it's worth spending time and money on that or should I just use my CronousMax which can allow me to use the stick on any platform really and adds about 1ms of input lag at most.

if you ever plan on playing a tournament, use padhack. if not, use cronusmax. cronus are banned at any tournament worth attending.

in that case then yeah, stick to dry cloth except for spot cleaning. stick to alcohol when cleaning buttons. i only clean my buttons maybe 2 times a year so it's not like you need to be breaking them down weekly or anything.

TE2+ Challenges/Issues:

  • Apply some pressure to the case, around the bezel etc to hear the multiple squeaking sounds of the plastic. Minor but present (comes and goes).
  • The plexi and top panel of the stick is flimsy and any pressure applied it starts to cave in (does not feel solid)
  • The top panel does not sit flush with the rest of the case, on the side it's noticeably above the side panels. Even though the case is locked you can push the case down with your finger to make it flush. Minor but present.
The above are my main gripes with the stick now that it no longer squeaks.

  • The stick is hollow inside so button presses and stick movements are LOUD. Especially when registering stick movements. If you put effort into 'riding the gate' or being forceful and you hit the edge to register dashes etc, the stick emits a loud deep sounding "THUD". Although the case is heavy and "feels" solid, it does not absorb the sound. Instead, it creates almost an echo chamber.
I don't really agree with this though. I just did a bit of testing, and I wouldn't call the TE2+ particularly loud compared to my old TE. It sounds different (more hollow, I guess), but not louder.

  • The edge on the bottom where the case begins sloping down is also very sharp. It's not a gradual curve downwards like their other models. Oddly after the first week my wrist/forearm felt bruised after playing because it almost feels like it's pressed against the bone. It needs to be sanded and smoothed down to round it off, again it's very sharp. (see pic below)
This hasn't been an issue for me either, but I guess it depends on your grip.

Yeah, replacing a single screw or washer inside of the TE2+ to fix an issue could cost 1 cent but its the part about it being $350 product. This is as expensive as a current gen console. People should not have to do any tweaking to fix these issues. Where's the QA?
I do agree that opening up and cleaning microswitches is definitely not something you should have to do with a product this expensive.

Still debating whether I should keep the stick or ask for a refund...

You can get:
Brook 360 to Xbox One adapter. Only works for that combo with no x1 controller needed to authenticate.
or
CronusMaxPlus, which requires authentication with an X1 controller, but is much more flexible for use on other systems too.

Both are good, but Brook is simpler to use.

Thanks, I'll have a look around and see if I can find it. Cheers!

Hey guys, i'm about to buy a stick right now and im leaning toward the Real Arcade Pro. 4 Kai from Hori, it comes out in my ebgames in about 2 days so I assume it's the version with hayabusa buttons.

How easy to customize is this stick incase I don't like the buttons? Should I pay up like 100$ more for a TES2 instead? Thanks for the help, i'm a total newbie i've never had a stick before

So I returned my older model hrap4 to frys (manhattan beach). Looks like they have a mix of kuros and hayabusa buttons on the floor.

Make sure you pay attention if buying it b&m. :)

I've never owned a stick before and am very close to buying the new HRAP, is there a model number we should be looking for? How can we tell easily which has the newer buttons?

Just look on the box.

It clearly says on the side brand new Hayabusa buttons with an image of the button next to the stick.

Ask the cashier to let you look at the box before buying.

do you think that even with the old kuro buttons on the hrap paying extra for the TES isnt worth it?

Nope.

Because everyone here is opening up their TE2's and trying to fix its surreal amount of issues and replacing and fixing shit anyways despite paying that premium price. Versus you buying an HRAP and just replacing the buttons for maybe 30 bucks, which is still less than the cost of the TE2 or even TES+..

The extra hassle of the latest batches of TE's makes the HRAP, with its new Sanwa competitive buttons and lower price, the stick to get.

Especially if it's your first stick, being forced to tinker with shit despite paying over 200 dollars (no matter whether it's TES+ or TE2) may sour your experience.

Never mind the fact that you can't even buy a TES+ or TE2 any where right now, and won't until at least mid-March. Hori however has ample supply, no malfunctioning issues, apparently lower input lag in the latest batch compared to their earlier line, and new buttons people think are on par with Sanwa's. The choice is obvious at this point. Glad I pulled the plug.

Okay, good to hear. Thanks for the input! Madcatz needs to step their game up

YEah, IMO if its the new batch then it's great for the price, however if it isn't then there would be input lag(and i've read online that it is kinda big) + old buttons, which is what worries me the most.

If only we people in canada could simply order from the HORI site :/

Besides buying an HRAP, the best choice right now is buying a cheap stick and putting a brook or ps4 mod in it or something.

Buying a TES+ or TE2, despite all of the hype, surprisingly seems to be the LAST thing you want to do besides using a stock ps3 stick.

It's not that MCZ needs to step their game up. We think they are on their death bed. It makes sense they'd cheap out when they've laid off so many people and are supposedly (are they?) bankrupt. So they're going to have low stock and weird issues that come from poor quality control.

Man changing the artwork on my old Mad Catz TE-S was a lot harder than I thought it would be but I finally did it... except now SFV doesn't seem to detect my stick. I checked on USF4 and GG Xrd and the 360 stick works just fine for those 2 but for some reason SFV detects nothing. Nada. Zilch. WTF is going on... Maybe I should re-install SVF.

I've never owned a stick before and am very close to buying the new HRAP, is there a model number we should be looking for? How can we tell easily which has the newer buttons?

yup what cindy said. the old ones have "kuro" buttons and the new ones have "hayabusa" buttons. its clearly labeled on the side of the box.

other things to note on the box is that you can tell one has glossy buttons in the photos (kuros/old) and matte buttons (hayabusa/new). also the old ones will only list that they support ps3/ps4. the new ones ps3/ps4/pc.

Also if you're in canada, you wont find a stick with the new buttons. I've looked around, and bestbuy and amazon CA only have the old kuro buttons model sadly. Hori doesnr deliver outside the US

It's lame but whatever, even then the stick is probably worth the buy.

Send the money to someone in the US, have them buy it, and then have it shipped to Canada.

Hmm, all this talk of the Kai makes me want to cancel my TE2+ order that will seemingly never ship despite Gamestop saying it ships within 24 hours. Maybe I'll overnight the Kai hrmm

If I knew someone in the US i'd try it, but yeah dunno anyone, not worth the hassle for me now

Aren't replacement buttons cheap anyways?

Orrr I could play the waiting game. How long till they replace the canadian models too? Hmm...

Given that they're just now rolling in Hayabusa button editions of the RAP4 kai, I'd say waiting is a good idea. Could be stocked within a week. They came out unannounced over here, unexpectedly. I expect the same for Canada. They may be there next week.

So.. I'm new to fight sticks I was considering the TE2+ but seeing the problems some are having think ill just pass on it especially at that price point.

Just to be sure, is it this one? I'll probably go ahead and buy this instead, had some people in a couple gamestop's recommend me the hori fight sticks as well.

Curious about the new Hori buttons. I didn't think the Kuros were terrible but they were certainly inferior to Sanwas. I prefer the feel (and look) of matte materials compared to gloss and if the edges are more rounded and travel reduced then the only real question mark for me is how "snappy" the 'busa buttons are. I don't think I'll ever like Hori's lever though, but some dig it so it's nice to have options out there.

This is incorrect. MCZ's site currently has the TES+ readily available and the TE2+ shipping March 3.

Ah. The other day they sent to Amazon link and said it wouldn't be restocked until mid-March.

Yup that is the one. As long as you are buying the version sold by Amazon.

Uses HORI original HAYABUSA stick lever and new HAYABUSA buttons

I pre-ordered it like 20mins ago but i'll cancel it.

Not paying 260$ cad if i'm getting an old model and the new ones are comming soon lol. Hopefully the wait will pay off

Actually, one last question.

How is the input lag on the Real Kai? Is it as bad as some people say online?

It would be cool to see if there is a difference between the ''old'' model and the new one. IMO if the only difference are the buttons i'd keep my order

However, if the input lag on the ''new'' models are way lower, then i'd cancel it..

Any thoughts? Anyone tested it yet?

I don't have one of the ones with the Hayabusa buttons, but I can't say I've ever noticed any lag with my RAP4 Kai. I play a ton of fighters too.

Arcadeshock says they ship to Canada and they claim to have the Hayabusa version in stock.

teyah says that a Japanese tester who uses the same method he and other Japanese testers use, that they concluded that the new Hori line is much, much better in terms of input lag.

As new users, input lag is probably one of the last things we should be worrying about.

if i were in your position i'd wait to see if your local stores refresh stock and have the new model available in like a week or two.

i'm prone to buyers remorse though lol

After I saw that the RAP Kai now has Hayabusa buttons, I had to take the plunge. Have five sticks already but I've wanted to try the Hayabusa lever too. Ordered it from Amazon last week and it should arrive shortly.

Same. I got one just last week and it had Kuros. Gonna just keep it and use it as a second stick for guests. Gonna use the Hayabusa buttons for myself.

I am thinking about making my own stick. While we are talking about input lag anyone know what PCB I should use to play SF5 on the PC? I've heard the PC version having extra input lag if you have to use software to fix the input of some sticks and I would like to avoid that.

brook universal board. Runs in Xinput mod so it will be recognized natively by sf5

Thanks for the responses, brook universal board seems great except the price is more than double what I was looking at.

I'm not quite sure what a pad hacked 360 is.

Is it safe to say that a basic mame board won't work?
