I think this tournament has shown me that Ken is actually a good and very technical character, so in order to get good with him you're going to need to lab it up and learn him for real.

Seems like many 09ers strongly dislike SFV, and some STers are coming back. Ah Street Fighter.

I'm a 09'er and I love this game. It's really refreshing after nearly 7 years of SF4. Ryu has always been my dude and I main'd him from the beginning of SF4 like every other SF game I've played. After a few years I really started to dislike playing Ryu because I hated how so many other characters got these knockdowns into mix ups or full screen flying attacks that goes through fireballs and is safe on block. Why do I have to play so solid to win when other characters can go ham.

That changed with SFV. They removed so much of that kind of BS from SF4 and that was all they had to do to make Ryu really fun for me again. I really enjoy playing that classic style and it's really refreshing to throw fireballs, anti air, and try to play footsies(I'm not good at this part) without having to keep an eye on so much crazy shit all the time. This doesn't mean I hate SF4, I still love it and it'll always have a place in my heart. But after all these years I finally truly get what others meant when they expressed their dislike for the game. It's just one of those things where I couldn't truly understand until I put mad hours into another game that was a lot more honest than SF4.

Try playing OmniCloud's Ken sometime. Still the best Ken i've seen, this tournament included.

OmniCloud is in this thread. I know his GAF name starts with Omni. Forget the other part of it.

Oh and damn this game, I keep getting unlucky magic pixels on my punishes. I was surprised I was able to get a win, if the Ryu rushed me down I woulda fell lol.

Learn the safe moves. There is a noob thread in neogaf that has lots of info.

Some moves are safe some are less safe. So if you wake up cannon spike, you may get punished hard. Specially by heavy hitters. Fuck ryu

I feel like Cammy has no safe special moves, but I may be wrong. I guess Spin Knuckle is sorta safe from a distance? Little recovery on that. Cannon Spike is unsafe, Spiral Arrow too, and Cannon Strike I feel always loses the priority game. Hooligan is the unsafest shit. When it comes to normals I know s.MK is Cammy's best friend, but that's about it.

Last 5 matches (I am Rashid)

Rashid (1530) vs Nash (900) Win / +25
Rashid (1555) vs Fang (2200): Win / Disconnect
Rashid (1555) vs Birdy (3400): Win / Disconnect
Rashid (1555) vs Ryu (2800) Win / Disconnect
Rashid (1555) vs Ryu (1800) Loss / - 65

Rashid (1495)

Fuck this fucking game. :P

Seriously I am having fun just playing the game but there's only so much I can take here. I have to wait around 3 minutes to actually get a match (which doesn't sound like a lot but in my opinion, it's terrible when matchmaking lasts longer than game time) and then on most matches I get nothing for it!

I don't know if this is just my crappy luck or there are really this many people disconnecting, but honestly with the majority of my wins disconnecting I really do not see how I am supposed to rank up. I am struggling to increase in rank and that struggle wouldn't be anywhere near as significant if it wasn't for a good 60% of my wins ending in disconnections.

If we take this session above for instance, I should have gained over 100 points, but instead because of DQs, I've lost 50. That's messed up, man, and it feels like RNG, because I can't predict when this is going to happen. If I want to get to silver I just need to get that lucky streak of opponents that don't RQ.

I don't really blame them though, like, I'm not mad at the players. It's completely Capcom's fault here.

Didn't know he played Ken, will check it out and probably play him a couple of sets :P

Wtf. Why do some matches suddenly turn to shit connection wise. Everything's is all good and fine. All of the sudden teleportations everywhere. This happens mainly against pc players. Is there something wrong with ps4 players against pc players? I'm playing wired btw

There are normal punches as well ;)

Not a cammy player. But lots of smart and good players here. You have good fundamentals! Those were hype matches.

Here's the noob thread http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=1162886

Man I need to pick up Birdie again, I love everything about him in theory

Maybe it's just because I'm a super-newb, but for whatever reason the timing to properly pull off a knockdown tech in this game feels really odd and strict. I'd had no luck getting it to work for a long time because I assumed that you'd have to hit the buttons the moment your character hit the ground, but instead I'm finding you're supposed to actually do it a few frames before that? And the window feels ridiculously small to pull it off? I'm just here in training mode taking Ken shoryus and tatsus to the face to practice my rises and having no consistency to it at all. I'm hoping there's just some easy element to this that I'm missing because even other 0LP players seem to already have this down pat compared to me and it makes no sense.

What was Capcom smoking when they decided to make Dhalsim's fireball to arch? Characters with projectiles at least have chance. But charecters like Karin and other grapplers has nothing to get in. Plus with the white health BS while blocking.

dayum

That looks pretty neat. How are you removing the backgrounds?
I'm using a mod that makes the training stage a different, flat colour (was originally green, now I'm trying black and white so that it doesn't influence the character colours) and then in photoshop I'm removing those colours and saving them as a gif :)
Gief EX Running Grab through Laura's V-skill

Hop kick into EX Cmd grab on whoever from max range

crush counter st. hp into dash up command grab

predictive Air SPD

if you feel like it lol
If I knew how to do any of those... I would :P any links on how to do them?
Yo do Laura CA pls
Trying her now. Her hair is black though which is causing some... issues :P
Cool gif work
Thanks! :)

When you see it, you can get a dash or something like a slide in if your character has it. It's pretty slow on recovery, so you can cover a lot of ground when you see it. He might try to poke you after, so don't try to get too much in, if you feel you can't reach him in time. If you don't do a quick getup or a back roll on knockdown, he has forever to go for a setup, so don't give him the time.

Oh lol. They're all 360s so just spring the stick from forward to up back in a clockwise with punch for spds or 2 kicks for the running grab. If you can't do that though it's aight tho lol

It's not you that isn't good at footsies, ryu isn't a footsie character in sfv. Chun and vega are.

He's not that bad if you're not playing against Chun or Vega, to be fair. Which is most of the time. Either way, it's just about making the best of what you have. So even if you don't have a 'footsie character' you can play a good footsie game against most of the cast.

I do wonder what to do against Chun and Vega sometimes though. I try and play footsies with them back, but it doesn't work out. Playing as Rashid...
