Trying to talk myself out of ordering this in the morning.. Mainly I don't want to miss out on any of the definitive VR experiences. I know Job Simulator is launching later this year on Oculus & PSVR. What other big games/demos are Vive exclusives currently?

It seems like the majority of titles will be forced to launch on all three due to the incredibly small overall market this year.

I get the feeling room-scale is going to be the gimmick. Even standing around is going to be uninteresting after a while. Comparing it to the Wii, everyone jumped around like crazy at first, then started standing around, then ended up just sitting down. I think games most conducive to that kind of play are going to end up being the lead played over interesting room experiences.
There was no INCENTIVE to stand up for Wii games, as almost every title could be played with small wrist flicks while sitting down, with no degradation to gameplay. A couple exceptions were dancing games (dancing while seated is ridiculous) and golf games (can't backswing with a chair in your way).

With positional tracking VR, you HAVE to get off your ass or else you lose the ability to see over cover in Hover Junkers, view the other side of the puzzle in Water Bears, move from workspace to workspace in Job Simulator, etc.

I know SLI is supposed to be important for VR but have developers said in mass that they're going to support it?

Cause I don't want to be stuck with the minimum 970 if not.
I think at the start, the huge majority of VR gamers will have 970's because that's what VR heads were telling them to buy, so it will be very clear what rigs to target. As new cards are released this year, the GPU population will become more fragmented, so I would imagine VR SLI will start to gain support around that time.

Struggling to find information. Does the Aperture Robot Repair demo launch on April 4th as well? Killing myself trying to decide if I want to cancel my Oculus preorder and go with the Vive.

Lack of money hatting makes it seem like SteamVR's lineup is going be weaker but room-scale™®© is very cool.

Basically Just watch all of the VR videos on the Node and BrandonJLa channels. Excellent demonstrations of Vive stuff coming real soon. They are doing god's works.

Space Pirate Trainer
Hover Junkers
Fantastic Contraption
Tilt Brush
Budget Cuts

There are others (and ones that will come from nowhere) but these are the ones that immediately come to mind. My understanding is for now these are all exclusives. Some may be able to get translated over, others won't depending on what Oculus does.

Man, the hype these last days have been getting to me. I kind of want to pick this up as well. I'm already all in with the Rift because the cockpit games I want to play already have support, but the room scale stuff is growing on me.

Being brutally honest, Budget Cuts is the only thing I've seen so far that I'd really like to play, and I'm sure that'll come to oculus touch later on (actually with the teleporting mechanic I'd guess you could bring it to non motion tracked systems too)

But I still can't shake the feeling that being tracked in a space would really amplify the presence factor. Like when DK2 positional tracking - just a tiny thing, moving your head from side to side a few inches, but it had a big effect. Room scale feels like a red herring to me - it's the motion tracking of the hands and the broader, more robust positional tracking of the headset that really excites me.

The Gallery and Budget Cuts are the Vive games I'm most looking forward to at the moment. Stuff like Tiltbrush and Modbox will be awesome too.

Oh tiltbrush looks trippy. I'm no artist but I could probably mess about with that for ages.

Gallery I'm a Kickstarter backer on and that looks great too. Might be worth getting a Vive for that.

I'm semi-sure I'll try and grab a preorder at least. The only way I'm going to get this clear in my head is to have both headsets for a while and then pick one.

I definitely agree that Vive content is looking a little sparse at launch. They really haven't let things gestate enough for substantial launch releases. But what's there is at least looking pretty inventive. I've already accepted the fact that I'm buying both lol.

I'm building a new pc in the next few weeks too. My somwehat budget build from 2012 is officially being retired. Been working really hard the last couple years, making some decent money, and I'm not married, so I figure it's time to indulge.

I've got an extra 12x12 open space in my bedroom (it's a big bedroom) so I'm absolutely ready for room scale. At the same time I'm really pumped for the Rift and all the sitting stuff too, especially substantial and polished games like Edge of Nowhere, Lucky's Tale, Eve, Chronos, etc. People acting like seated VR is some kind of obsolete parlor trick are out of their minds. We haven't even scratched the surface of what's possible!

tiltbrush is fun but I feel it needs more solid, 3d brushes to actually be more than a quick toy. 2D flats and 1D lines don't work well in a 3D space. the hololens had a brush that was like a ball and you use that to paint solid objects into existence. just something like that would go a long way (tiltbrush probably/hopefully already has brushes like that and just didn't notice)

what I need to know is if/how to get theBlu demo on a consumer vive. that's pretty much all I care about. I want to show that to anyone trying vive for the first time before anything else.

No. I'm hoping everybody forgets to pre-order so I can swoop in and get that first one.

So is htcvive.com where we'll actually be ordering from? Or is there another website I should have open tomorrow? REALLY don't want to miss the preorder because I'm on the wrong page.

Yeah, I was thinking the same. Is it just from there or will selected retailers be handling it?

Yeah, but quite a lot of people already have the camera, so my guess is that you can sku with the camera or one without

The camera sold like one million. It's not worth it to do such a reductive niche SKU for a such little market, especially when the camera costs so little for them to produce. Every SKU they do will include the camera.

Created an HTC account just in case. Will be canceling my oculus preorder. Hope in-depth comparison comes out before it ships, but since the prices of both seems so similar, I might as well get the vive for the optional room experience before OR gets it implemented..

I still don't know if I should pre-order it in addition to Rift, lol.

The countdown is getting me anxious now.

Thats me. But I am still wondering whether to get an Oculus or a Vive. I just preorder and can still cancel my order if Oculus might show more exclusive titles at their showcase. I still want that sweet roomscale/VR controllers.

Welp... couldn't convince the wife, but she said I could just go ahead and try it myself (sometimes I wonder if I'll ever set her free of WoW's evil clutches).

I have seen a few US server names mentionned for GAF... is there a GAF guild already set up on a server for the US, as I will start playing on Wednesday it looks like?

Yeah there should be a Vive Guild :P

Wrong thread, huh? The Division?

Keeping my Rift preorder. I have no desire (nor the space) for room scale VR. March 28th date for my Rift pre-order any how, so I'm happy with that.

I think you're looking for the Black Desert thread.

They said the Oculus was too high a price, but it looks like the thing sold out until late in the yea,r I wonder if demand is storng enough to eat up all shipments fo rthe year for the Vive too, despite the $800 price point.

I'm definitley sititng this one out until at least the holidays, if not next year. I'm hoping there's a VR gaffer who lives nearby that will let me come over to experience it. I'll bring pizza!

Knowing how awesome Vive and roomscale are, even in a small space, it's hard to watch the preorder kicking in knowing I can't really get involved right now.

So tempted but I should wait.

Should I wait?

As with all first-gen tech, waiting is the sane thing to do.

Let the first-adopters bang their heads against the software drought and initial wave of bugs and issues. After those are fixed it's safe to test the waters with generation two.

I think my urge to preorder this is mostly just being impatient for VR. I already have a Rift at an early april number, and I can always buy this later if I want it.

So I just have to stay strong through the hype I guess.

Nah I'll stay strong and save my money for now, I can wait for my Rift :p

But I'll get Vive anyway later this year.

Hype is strong, but we can do it brother.
