I wonder if the $110 for Australia shipping includes GST.

Or if they're going to stop it at the border and make me pay extra on top for GST -_-

It's like having Willie Wonka's golden ticket.

This and your avatar has me LOL'ing at work.

Decided to use my debit card in an incognito window and it finally went through. It doesn't have enough money on it right now and I don't know how much the hold will be, but it just wouldn't accept the credit card.

Also, did anyone else in the U.S. get charged tax? The billing and shipping are for Kansas and I was charged an extra $70.

For those that were wondering about refunds:

"What is your refund policy?

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if flipping it and just selling it online would be more financially worthwhile if you didn't like it. At the least you could probably sell at a level to get back your shipping price and break even.

I was charged tax. Illinois.

I'm flip flopping between this or the OR. I want one, but I don't know if the room scale + motion controllers is worth the premium.

The shipping cost is just a 'fuck you' on top of the 'holy hell' of the original price reveal. They really should have told us that ahead of time.

Definitely agree they should have mentioned it before hand, but I suspect they are following the same as other products that do not disclose the shipping costs.

From my experience, roomscale is hands down worth the premium. Non-forward facing experiences with hand controllers is where it is most definitely at. Its absolutely intoxicating. That works across seated, standing and roomscale but isn't something other headsets are focusing on. Standing and preferably walking even a little is so powerful vs stationary seated. 5ftx6.5ft is the minimum for roomscale, which I think is fairly doable with some shuffling for many, but the 360 focus is still there for standing and seated thankfully

I was ordering to Finland, saw the 90 euro shipping, but after I pressed the order button it said the price had changed. Started showing the shipping as 73 euros and that's what ended up on the invoice. *wut*

Ah, I think I know how HTC fucked this up. Once I put in my address that included my educational institution, they asked if this is an entity that has to pay VAT, and offered the option of inputting our ID to avoid paying the tax. We're not VAT-free so I clicked on the button to skip that, but HTC left the shipping cost at 0% VAT regardless. 73 * 1.22 ~= 90. The Vive itself stayed at 899e as intended.

I'm curious how they'll fix this, retroactively ask for more money or what. It's their responsibility to pay the tax. Hopefully they won't cancel the order.

Pre-ordered but I was a little late due to the page not loading the "Buy NOW" button at the checkout so I couldn't see what to click! Hopefully emails at 3:08pm are still in the first batch :p

Yup, I got charged tax. I'm here in Illinois. $30 for shipping and $51.82 for taxes.

So much VR all at once! Trying to debate if I should just buy tripods because it seems like it will be easier method to use it.

The pages for some of the games on Steam now list the play area size requirements which is nice (I don't believe they did before?)

This VR game requires a play area of at least 2m x 1.5m.

Is what i'm seeing for Fantastic Contraption, Job Simulator, and Space Pirate Trainer, and The Legend of Luca.

Have you ever tried reaching Digital River customer service on any of the store sites they run, let alone tried to get a refund? They literally are one of the worst companies in America in my opinion and I would not be surprised if people that try to cancel get charged anyway or never even get a response to their requests. As such, I would only preorder if you are 100% sure you want the Vive.

That's roomscale. The minimum is 5ft x 6.5ft (ie 1.5m x 2m). That can scale up quite a bit though should you have the space.

Noted.

So there hasn't been a shift in shipping date or anything yet? I just ordered one and it still said April for shipping.

Oh and yeah, $895 total for shipping and taxes was a bit of a bummer but expected seeing as how the Rift pulled the same thing.

April 5th for first order batch.

Ordered. $1296 AUD. I'm a little worried though that I might get taxed when it arrives... Because in Australia we have a 10% import tax on goods worth more than $1000, but I'm still unsure whether that means $1000 USD or AUD, either way I'm pretty sure that tax can be waved if the item is marked as a gift. Fingers crossed HTC have already thought about this!
