Street Fighter V |OT2| Another Fight Isn't Coming Your Way!

The only thing I like about survival on easy-normal (haven't tried hard) is that the AI is dumb enough that I feel comfortable enough to try different things out. Anecdotal/limited experience but I found the AI is pretty susceptible to being pushed into a corner and being thrown over and over. Eventually they'll break out but if I feel like moving on it's not hard to push them back and get the cycle going again.

I really need to start practicing seriously though. I played a few matches on casual, got to final round on two, beat one straight, and lost the rest. I feel kinda bad about the one I beat because I cheesed him a bit in ways that other people would punish. I find I whiff a lot, and my combos quickly fall into mashing territory. Still haven't jumped into ranked either.

Quick preview of the outfit I'm working on...

Cammy Croft :)

You can't edit meshes atm so all I can do is texture and material editing but I figured this was recognizable enough. :P

Still need to increase shininess of suit and try and remove the seams.
Amazing work man, I would totally use that.
Dear Laura players:

Worst character in fighting game history. Would rather play Vergil vs Vergil 4: Tale of two Swords. I'd rather have 16 Rufus' in character select than one Laura. HATE HATE HATE.

PJSalt
lol

BTW I'm working on a album of transparent idle gifs for every character. Here a link to the WIP album.
In the meantime, have a dancing Rashid:

I'm being a super skilled player and trying to see if I can beat normal survival with Dhalsim by pressing s.lk over and over.

Edit: I lied, I pressed s.hk too

Damn, that is one sharp Rashido. Great stuff, man.

still surprises me they didn't implement the SFIV RQ penalties into SFV considering they wanted to focus on online matches at launch.

I think the way they created the game as an always online experience forcing everyone to be logged in to the server, even small changes in the menu for matchmaking which result in 30 sec wait time before stuff gets uploaded to their already busy servers is not helping. Now i only imagine how difficult it must be for determining those rage quitters, thats why at the minute we have a response of "we need your help" and i honestly would expect a solution at a later date, probably not with the upcoming patch.

Playing survival normal was actually pretty fun with R. Mika. I got to 27 and hope to at least finish 30 for a few more colors. I'm not sure if I'll do 50. The cool thing is that it's gotten me to try different attacks, get used to the inputs, and practice things repeatedly.

I have a noob question though. After I use several of Mika's attacks (uppercut, slide heavy kick), the enemy always gets knocked down. With the uppercut for example, I cannot damage the enemy further until they fall down and get back up. This means I cannot combo more than maybe 2 hits. Is there a way to knock them up and then do something else while they're in the air or falling? Do I have to jump to hit them in the air? Ground attacks just seem to go through them.

The simple combos I have learned so far are:

LK MP (target combo)
rope throw wall bounce -> most any move (charged triple-kick, uppercut, heavy slide kick, whatever. I'm not sure if the enemy can block while they're bouncing)

Enemy can't block when bouncing. Qcf Kick is an air throw that can be used after forward HP knocks them into the air. Otherwise remember that you have the advantage (usually) on knockdown.

What's the best thing to do on enemy knockdown? I haven't learned to quick-bounce back to my feet yet, so I'm always scared the AI is going to somehow bounce up and instantly counter / throw / attack me if I try to pressure a knockdown.

The air throw still breaks the combo, so it sounds like Mika combos would be limited to 2-3 hits unless someone lets you land light/medium attacks first?

Not always. SF doesn't have juggles in the same way other games do. Though, if you get a crush counter on them while they're in the air you can juggle a bit, certain specials also cause the same reaction.

Try adding Flying Peach (quarter circle foward + punch) to finish your target combo. So s.lk, s.mp, qcf+p

The AI is absolutely terrible about using wake-up attacks. They do it but it almost never happens. Pressuring the AI heavily is actually one of the better strategies.

And yeah, the Wingless Airplane (air throw) does end the combo but you aren't really gonna get any other options off of it otherwise. Unless you're in the corner and you can use d.mp to do some corner shenanigans with your V.trigger.

Can't even get friends into a Battle Lounge after inviting from the Favourites list. This games online is beyond broken.

Can't imagine what people are feeling after spending full launch price on it with still no patch in sight. "Its okay, the game will work properly once stores are selling it at half price! Thank you for the initial crowdfunding."

I should play more characters outside of Gief more often.

I have no idea what the hell Mika was doing when I played as her for a bit yesterday but it was fun.

Has capcom said if the march update is supposed to hit at the beginning of the month or later? I really want to unlock those costumes.

I don't think they've said anything, one way or another.

Given the state the game was released in, I'm going to guess later rather than sooner.

I hate it but I think you're likely to be right.

Is Guard Recovery Actions in training mode not working for anybody else? I'm trying to record something and the dummy just stands there? Am I doing something wrong? Can't find a way to delete recordings either.

I know that feeling. Beat a 4000LP Bison, lose to a 900LP Dhalsim. Sunrise, sunset.

Reminds me of my day yesterday. I decided to play some casuals. Only played 4 matches. I beat a 2700 lp Laura, 3100 lp Karin, and a 2900 lp Fang. But I lost to a 1600 lp Mika because I got angry that he kept doing random slides that were easily punishable so I started mashing DP. Fucked up the first one and got crush countered on wake up. 2nd one whiffed and it was basically game over.

I don't know if it is that it isn't working but it can be super fucking frustrating, I had the same problem the other day. I'm still not entirely sure how it is even supposed to work. I just end up mashing the attack I want for the counter and it records properly sometimes!

One of those things I had to learn (still have to learn) is to not give a shit about your opponent's play being good.

Sometimes when I see an opponent dropped something, I feel bad for him, and then I play less well almost as to give him a second chance. Or like you said, where I see they're doing really dumb shit and I'm like wtf is wrong with you lol

Mashing is the only way I found to work.

You go to record, record your action. Then go to the same menu and there's "playback". Turn the playback on.

You don't need to delete them, you just enable/disable them and rewrite over them.

You have to properly time it, otherwise nothing happens, you have 0.6 seconds.

I dropped Laura to focus more on Mika. Sorry bae, I'm all about the blondes now.

Mostly doing it because I hate having to play defensively w/ Laura in certain matchups.

Here are a a few things I picked up from watching PR Rog just last night:

Anti-air with st. MP, and st. MK in that range where cr. HP doesn't work.
After counter hit cr. LP, st. MK,charge down-back cr. MP xx EX Rush

I think waking up where you're making a read with DP, the jab DP is the best since it hits crouchers. If you see the standing attack miss then just wakeup with HP/EX DP since its plenty of damage and invincibility.

With that said, the choice to stick with Necalli has easily cost me 1000 LP. I lose to super bad players that I'm sure I could take with Ryu despite spending maybe an hour playing him in SF V. Anti-air timing/ angle is a huge mental block for me with Necalli when Ican't be sure if the DP input is in time, will come up short if I do it too early, will mostly miss if they're jumping from close by. Hopefully those anti-airs work out for me.

I'm sticking with him since I think I need to learn to press more buttons and not down-back so much, so hopefully he helps with that.

PR Rog is so much fun to watch. It's such a clean play style no matter what character he picks.

Both Vega and Necalli are so solid to watch in his hands.

Even doing that is random as hell, you can even see in the video that he nearly lost multiple times. I died on 82 as Ken and it feels awful considering you get nothing for the attempt, just an hour wasted.

I didn't watch much of the video so thanks for pointing that out.

It seems like the best non-AI-exploiting strategy to beat Hard (and maybe Hell) is to accept fight requests when you're losing and ignore them when you're winning. The only problem there is that it could take over 2 hours to finish Hard that way and I literally don't have time for that. Hell could be an all day affair.

What I do know is that I can't beat Birdie on level 46. That's when the AI clearly changes into cheater mode, IMO.

I just want that black and white Ken. ;_;

Aren't you going to have to do the same with Mika too?

I have zero interest in Vega/Necalli but he is super fun to watch. He seems to really have fun and sounds weird but I found it surprising how far off his buttons his hand comes during matches. I was watching his hands while he streamed yesterday, he taps those buttons from far away at times.

I believe in you, hey_it's_that_dog. I always have.

Yeah but I am used to it with Mika. I don't mind playing lame when the occasion calls for it if I'm using a grappler. But with Laura I just wanna go pedal to the metal and it reached a boiling point when this Vega I was facing figured out that I had no real answer to repeated barcelona dives and claw pressure. The effort: payoff ratio for Laura was not good for me, even if I can do all of her fun stuff when I get an opponent who sucks.

What do I do against Zangief as Mika? Feels like I have to get in to do anything but I can't get in because Zangief is way too scary for that. I tried the outfootsie him a game until I realized that his buttons are way, way better than Mikas making the footsie game impossible to win.

Shit sucks.

Fair enough, I'm a huge fan of Mika so I see what you mean about it for grapplers. I'm not usually a big fan of grapplers because of how slow they generally but Mika is a lot of of fun because she has the speed.

Her rekka's are pretty crappy honestly, it's just a gimmick.

Nah, they're pretty good.

Solid damage from long range c.mk, excellent punish for stuff that's normally out of range, easy combo into super. Her trigger is at it's best when you combo into it. They give you great positioning.

The follow-ups are kinda shitty and gimmicky, that's true.

Time the dummy's action so that the game acknowledges it as a "Reversal" (complete with the little pop-up for it on the side of the screen).

Her throw finisher is absolute garbage, because it doesn't hit crouching opponents.

It is absolute garbage Capcom allowed that throw finisher to be put in the game in that state...

I feel like it used to hit crouching opponents and someone on the dev team got hit on mix up too many times with it from another dev and stealth removed its usefulness from the game...

Now that you mention it I had 0 interest in playing these characters until I watched him. Plus, literally in all the times I've watched SF4 be broadcast I had never heard PR Rog speak. It's now that he's streaming SF5 I got to hear his voice. He's a super charming guy.

Mika's buttons really do suck compared to his lmao

When trying her yesterday after being used to Gief I just started laughing at how shit they are in comparison.

Still, they can work. Her st. mk seems to counter lows from gief when I faced competant Mika's and her slide goes under the godlike st. mk of Gief I think
