He legit made me throw away my game plan and just go ham. I pretty much played angry the last 2 sets. Man I wanted so badly to swap out Ryu for Yun(my secondary in USF4) lol.
Well that's part of the gameplan against Mika. She's a momentum character that corner traps you, she really would be much too strong if she had a strong wakeup. Sometimes you need to be aggressive, dp Her HK when you see it being charged or neutral jump it. Don't forget about throw, and unless they have meter, go ham on wakeup. It's a fun match if you can figure out player tendencies. If not, well, be prepared to get corner banged!!

I gotta remember to use Mika's body splash. Always forget about it. Also been trying to learn Ken as a side character, and he's pretty tough to get a hang of. Definitely feels like you gotta be on point with hit confirms when using him. Gonna keep working on him though, he's fun to play.

I thought I read somewhere only the ex version had invincibility?

I haven't actually played Necalli so I'm not sure about that. Sorry. :P

How're you supposed to pull of Gief's super without jumping?

You can buffer the input doing another move. Forward dash or f.MK are pretty easy.

When you get faster at doing the input you'll be able to churn it while doing jab or lk.

His 720 super? You hide the input in something else.

Often you see players dashing forward and as the dash happens they pump the 720.

Really good players like SnakeEyez can do it off ANY normal. His jump knee, his crouching jab, his v skill, his v trigger.

You churn serious butter. :P

~10 hours of Ranked matches later I'm at 13 LP lower than I started and still right on the Bronze/Ultra Bronze divide. On one hand you could make a case that matchmaking/ranks are working correctly; on the other hand most of my wins were against people who had no idea what they were doing and most of my losses were against players who were clearly better than me with around 20-30% of my matches against players who had 800+ more LP than I did. So I suppose even if it's working as intended today was extremely frustrating and as a result of the mismatches I learned virtually nothing. Rad.

March update where are you :(

I forget about it too sometimes. It's pretty good to kind of ignore the move until the last round to throw your opponent off with a body splash read to take the match. If you abuse the move people will punish you accordingly.

It could be worse, I keep beating people who seem solid and losing to way worse people that have barely any points which makes me lose even more points.

I do sooo much better in sets, I throw the first match just figuring people out a lot. :\

If you can do what you did in SF4, 2 half circles.

Hmm okay, thank you. Was trying to pull it off for a screenshot but having difficulty, maybe cus the game is running super slow in 4k :P

Yeah the first week or so I feel like a lot of my matches were really close and I was learning stuff, last few days now it seems like everyone is just trains passing in the night skill-wise.

The ai spike in survival is crazy, I didn't get touched until fight 30 Bison on Normal, and he fucking perfected me from full health! I couldn't do anything. He counter hit and stuffed everything, I swear he was putting me in frame traps, I yelled "whaaaaat?!" outloud because it was so nuts.

olay Moradin he's a gaffer.

And look at Karin and Bisons frame data to at least become familiar with their unsafe stuff. Then, just have sets with good Karin and Bisons in lounge. I learned that nothing beats experience. Having frame data and a general gameplan is the start though.

I'm not sure about Ryu since his zoning is better, but I know Bison beats shotos, and as Ken I generally want to rush him down. Karin you should be able to play her a bit more versatile.

Thanks Bro!!!!!! I will definitely play any Karin or Bison just to learn that matchup. Those two characters are all kinds of ridiculousness.

Battle of the cyclones.

who's that old dude?

So I noticed that LI Joe combos Nash's b.mk after Nash's c.mp instead of s.mp (which is what I use), but I don't really know why. Anyone know what the benefit is to using b.mk instead? Or is it just prefence? Can't get in the lab right now.

b+mk forces stand but I don't know what that would be good for; only tragedy assault is contingent on it. perhaps less pushback.

It forces stand? Huh I had no idea. I'm sure you could do something interesting with that. But for now I'll stick with s.mp cause it's gotta better reach.

I absolutely hate no chip kills....

Are you kidding? It's one of the best additions they made to the game. And this is coming from a Guile player.

Lol, 3 points short of Ultra Bronze.

Can't wait to fall back to regular o' bronze when they start matching me up with some badass dudes in silver.

Edit: Got it!

Traptraptrapem

Throw that slow fireball a lot to keep em in blockstun, then command throw that ass

Everything you land ends with an elbow into that throw

WHEEEEEEL KICK

I do use her elbow often, its the only thing I can combo into. I don't use her wheel kick much though, hmm.

I was ambivalent towards no chip kills when i first heard of it but it's is starting to grate on me how the rules change at the very end of a fight.

I feel like SF5 is filled with some brilliant design but also some design that comes across as being out of touch. And not just in terms of teaching players, modes, etc. Some of the core aspects of the characters feel at odds. Cammy, for example is a character where you get in and beat their ass. One problem? You can't get in, and if you can't get in you have less health and less stun than any other character in the game. Bigger characters get more health and more stun when they should get less Stun to be a bit more balanced.

I'm sure others will disagree, but it feels like certain characters got a lot more than they should have and some are on the opposite end as well.

You have trouble getting in?
