I was thinking the same. I'd gladly go back to the Microsoft of Crimson Skies/Madness series, but I didn't like the GFWL MS at all, and I won't support the current UWA one. They were doing great at first, I don't know how we got to the abomination that was GFWL.Third chance? Your stated first chance is in the late 2000s and completely ignores Microsoft's surprisingly decent PC offerings before then. Y'know, Microsoft Entertainment Pack, Pandora's Box, Midtown Madness, Dungeon Siege, the PC version of Metal Gear Solid, et al.. Off-hand, I'd say that was a remarkably good starting point...
They definitely did start faltering around the time of the Xbox 360, though (if not original Xbox), what with GFWL and stuff. I dunno, I'd gladly see them return to the quality of their 90s PC offerings if they're willing to put in the effort to get there.
The thing is that it gets worse then GFWL even due to DirectX12 enforcing some of the UWA restrictions. It's overall a shitty situation and fuck MS for it.
My goodness do I hate the Windows Store.
Having what looks, feels, and acts like a phone's app store on my pc is not ideal in any way.
Until there is a evidence of them changing their ways for a sustained period I want no part of it again.
They are already fucking up in ways beyond belief. Who releases a sim racing game in 2016 with no wheel and peripheral support on the PC?
If that isn't evidence that they haven't learnt a single thing from their previous forays into the PC gaming market I don't know what is.
And yet... there are some people still trying to defend them. It's astounding.

uhhh what? Unless i'm mistaken i think you are talking about the f2p forza 6 that is coming out in the spring. And the only announcements on it have been that it is coming and a trailer. And yet somehow you know it won't have wheel or peripheral support. Now either you are a time traveler or are talking out your ass. If #1, in the future do the robots destroy us?
They stated it won't have Wheel support due to UWP, because the standard is too "new".
"Should they be given a chance?"
I don't believe in this kind of entitled gaming.
A company offers products. We choose whether to buy or not buy. There's no need to take it all so personally.
They can have as many chances as they want. It doesn't mean we have to believe them without waiting for solid results.
As far as chances go, absolutely. People should be open to the possibility that Microsoft might, someday, get it right.
Right now, however, they're getting it wrong. They're doing a tremendously poor job of matching their competitor (Steam) and thus they are failing to deliver what PC gamers want. Their current efforts fly against their comments of listening to PC gamers. I don't think there's a single PC gamer who supports the inability to turn V-sync off or the inability to use Crossfire/SLI or the inability to use mods. With that said, it's still early, so it doesn't make sense to completely write them off. By this time next year, public opinion on Win10 gaming might actually be positive.

They seemed to "get" it pretty well in the 90s, though.Nope they do not deserve a third/fourth/fifth chance. The thing is Microsoft do not "get" PC gaming, they never have and they never will.
This. These guys have no clue as to what they're doing. Proof of the pudding is in the eating and they've buggered too many puddings already.Well they are already out the gate failing. Windows Store DRM which forces V-Sync, Windowed Mode, and Restricts user control. In fact they are already doing worse than before.

In a perfect world they'd bow out of the console market and compete with Steam exclusively.

Eff all this negativity. An ongoing system/business should be able to offer something good as new people and ideas are nurtured. I wouldn't be stupid to count any one out of any ongoing technology environment. If Sega brought out an awesome console I'd get one. I'd give them the chance to support it and would buy if it had games I wanted. Windows ten is new I'll give them a fourth chance
Yes, nothing I'd love more than another PC client. Origin, Uplay, Steam and that Rockstar thing aren't enough.
What you're getting now is even worse.
What's that supposed to mean?
W10 store any everything associated with it is worse than just-another-client.
It's already DOA for me as of right now. The dumb restrictions for stuff on the windows store is terrible. The fact the new forza game wont be compatible with pc wheels is completely crazy to me.
