Should Microsoft be given a third chance with PC Gaming ?

The thing is that it gets worse then GFWL even due to DirectX12 enforcing some of the UWA restrictions. It's overall a shitty situation and fuck MS for it.
 
My goodness do I hate the Windows Store.

Having what looks, feels, and acts like a phone's app store on my pc is not ideal in any way.

I was thinking the same. I'd gladly go back to the Microsoft of Crimson Skies/Madness series, but I didn't like the GFWL MS at all, and I won't support the current UWA one. They were doing great at first, I don't know how we got to the abomination that was GFWL.
 
Bruh.. I mean, they can try, they have just lost any chance that I will have faith in them in the beginning. I dont mind them trying all that much, but Im not jumping on board until they get a solid 3 years of success under their belts. Im skeptical of them in that area for good reason.
 
My gut says no as MS cant help themselves sometimes from fucking over consumers but I want those XBox One exclusives....

I don't understand why MS keeps trying to change things up. "Lets give them what they don't know they need and not what they actually want. Once we release this they will go crazy for it." They repeatedly fail at reading the market. Maybe they want PC gaming to be more 'user friendly' so they limit options so it's less confusing or something?

Just blows my mind how they repeatedly fuck up on the PC side. You think they would have someone look at steam and how receptive PC gamers are to the service and either try to use that service to push their games and create some deal with valve, or try to emulate the good aspects of it.

Remind me of kyle bosman and him doing the elephant thing for Nintendo.
 
Good if they can finally figure it out, but I'll still await the "MS says they really do care about PC gaming" articles in 2017.
 
Windows store its another go at what they tried with GFWL, so I wont touch it if is not for a F2P game or some super almost free deal.

I will try Killer Instict but some other games like Quantum Break or Gears that are Windows Store exclusives are like if the PC version doesnt exist in my mind. Not a real problem to miss some of them having an evergrowing backlog anyway.
 
I could be out of the loop a bit but I thought I read on a big thread here that their recent Windows 10 Store releases were limiting and locking options and performance.

If that is true, then no...

Phil has made a big deal about saying how much they've heard from and will listen to PC gamers about the current app limitations. If they actually act on that in the future then they could probably convince me that this could work. Until then...I dunno.
 
They'll need to fix all the major issues with the Windows Store before I'll give them a shot. In some ways this is more restrictive and anti-consumer than GFWL 2.0. Nothing about their Windows 10 strategy makes me think they will ever get to that point.

I'm lucky in that I am not that interested in anything that looks to be restricted to the Windows Store as of now. I have slight interest in ReCore, but we know almost nothing about that game. Others are interested in their games, and Microsoft's tone deaf approach to PC gaming is going to prevent them from having options that basically every other PC game on the planet has.

edit: And I am far from a "Steam only" person. I'd have no issue with using a Microsoft client if it was significantly less draconian.
 
They get as many chances as they want, but their current effort doesn't look like a winner. They'll probably never "get" PC gaming until the give up on making PCs work like Xboxes.
 
I do not trust MS. I need solid examples of value and pro-consumer stance on their offerings before i try their store.
All i see now is MS giving shinies to the natives but no substance. We may see Spencer as their frontman but the Greenbergs and Medhis are the ones that are really in charge.
Yet i ll wait.

I don't know about the idea of 'chances' but if someone does something good, I'll support it, even if they've done something bad in the past.

right now, their PC gaming initiative isn't where PC gamers would expect. But what's happening today isn't neccisarily what will be going on tomorrow. If they bring the functionality of UWA's up to snuff with exe's I'd buy any interesting game from the PC store in a heart beat.

Until then, I'll probably only stick to free games and/or games that I get through cross/buy.

They stated it won't have Wheel support due to UWP, because the standard is too "new".

Part of the issue with the platform is uwp is coming in super hot...well good thing they are going f2p and not charging for this

As far as chances go, absolutely. People should be open to the possibility that Microsoft might, someday, get it right.

Right now, however, they're getting it wrong. They're doing a tremendously poor job of matching their competitor (Steam) and thus they are failing to deliver what PC gamers want. Their current efforts fly against their comments of listening to PC gamers. I don't think there's a single PC gamer who supports the inability to turn V-sync off or the inability to use Crossfire/SLI or the inability to use mods. With that said, it's still early, so it doesn't make sense to completely write them off. By this time next year, public opinion on Win10 gaming might actually be positive.

The problem is, its not the first time. They cant just say "this is my first day ! ".
They actually did it before. And have yet to fix their mess.
 
Nope they do not deserve a third/fourth/fifth chance. The thing is Microsoft do not "get" PC gaming, they never have and they never will.

Even now with this new "initiative" barely out of the gate huge problems are rearing their heads. What with the restrictions in UWP and DirectX 12. As per usual Microsofts reaction is to throw a few shiny things at us and go "see all is well". They did the same thing with GFWL, that failed and I can only hope that PC gamers ensure this new imitative fails.

As somebody pointed out they aren't starting for zero goodwill, they're starting from negative goodwill. They have had plenty of time to fix past mistakes or at least learn from them to put a good foot forward. Unfortunately, once again they haven't.
 
I don't trust them because I feel like Microsoft has no direction right now. I have no idea what they are doing with Xbox and I have no idea what they are doing with PC. At this point, I don't even know if they will still be around next gen.

If the Windows store has some guarantees that I can play my games when MS disappears from gaming, then I will give it a chance for Xbox games but that's it.
 
I'm not a gullible fool so the obvious answer is hell no. Just like any company, they'll need to EARN your trust from the ground up.

Wow 25 years ago :-p. I wouldn't say they "got it". Sure they did some good things with windows 95 along with Directx and they released a few gems such as midtown madness and Fury3 but I would hardly say Microsoft was huge player in the PC gaming world in the 90's other than providing the OS.
 
I dunno, they still had some very big hits with Ages of Empires or Dungeon Siege and similar. They were a decently large player at the time.

Then the Xbox happened, and whatever changes in leadership came with it basically led to the "durr how do PC gaming work" situation we're in now.
 
I think we need to see a few releases and what they can fix on the store to judge.

But so far everything they've announced and done looks good to me. Will see how quick they are about turning the problems around with the existing window store games.

Quite frankly I think it's funny that they are trying to break the script and people are struggling on how to respond to it.
 
Eff all this negativity. An ongoing system/business should be able to offer something good as new people and ideas are nurtured. I wouldn't be stupid to count any one out of any ongoing technology environment. If Sega brought out an awesome console I'd get one. I'd give them the chance to support it and would buy if it had games I wanted. Windows ten is new I'll give them a chance

They're allowed as many chances as they want. They just have to accept people won't be happy with it without good results. The Windows 10 store is certainly not doing them any favours at the moment.
 
Sure they can take as many shots as they need....Thing is they've been trying and failing spectacularly for a while...so the skepticism they gain from others shouldn't come as a shock.

Their current attempt seems to be missing the mark from the looks of things.

Sure, it's not like it costs me anything to be open-minded and evaluate things as they progress. Sames goes for a well-liked company taking a wrong turn. Lets see how they address the current issues with UWP and go from there.
