Nintendo Direct: new presentation announced for tomorrow

Guys help, I think he's serious.

It's possible that Nintendo is simply not willing to engage in any kind of situation that could involve legal ramifications if they went ahead and dumped ROMs that utilized the SuperFX chip. The GBA port of Yoshi's Island is one way to get around that, though that's understandably not the ideal way to play the game, extra content be damned.

You know, porting the other SuperFX games and not using any of that code could wind up being a good thing, since you wouldn't have to be limited by the hardware limitations of the SNES and they would be on more powerful hardware than the GBA. I don't think anyone complained about the little bits and pieces of Star Fox that they've put into Wario Ware over the years that runs dramatically better than it originally did in 1992.

I guess, perhaps the whole thing is actually to avoid possible legal ramifications. And it's kind of weird that Star Fox wasn't released for either Wii or Wii U's Virtual Console.

Given the complete silence since E3, I'm sure they heard the criticism. Next Level Games are a good developer, I'm sure when we see it again there will be a huge improvement. They should never have shown the game in such an early state.

I don't know that it was any bad state to begin with. The art style was purposeful and ifnthe aesthetic wasn't to people's liking, that doesn't mean they'll change it. As I understand it the game itself was already in solid shape.

I'm not expecting Federation Force to change, but that they probably won't give it much more acknowledgment than say Fatal Frame 5 or Devil's Third after the rightful reaction last year.

They'll give it plenty more time and acknowledgement than those games. Unlike those it's a game featuring one of Nintendo's major IP.

It's Nintendo we're talking about. There will be no tease, just already known games.

If there is no announcement of a new game, that would be an exceptionally rare (maybe first ever?) occurence, so I think you can count on at least one happening. Of course, you can't count leaks against announcements, though.

This would definitely be the Direc tto announce Mother 3 if it were ever to come over here.
I just hope the rumors turn out to be true.

Also I want a release date on #FE.
And Rhythm Heaven 3DS.
And maybe Pikmin 4 and Paper Mario U.

I would expect it by E3, for sure, but not necessarily tomorrow. Just to temper your expectations so you're not too disappointed if it doesn't happen.

Hoping but not expecting localization for Detective Pikachu.

Nintendo put several years of development into the tech at least for that game. I'd be shocked if we don't see it localized, at worst once it's all out in JP.

Watch them not show Paper Mario and all the talk around this direct will be "Where the eff is Paper Mario!"

You know that's going to happen no matter what they don't reveal. If they showed NX, Zelda, Pikmin, Paper Mario and a new 3D Mario, fans would be lamenting the lack of a new Wario Land game. Not that they'd be wrong to. But my point is that a large or at least voval portion of the audience will always be clamoring for something else.

Next year for NX ;)

I don't think I expect GCN VC to ever be a think to be honest. You have a very small library of games to emulate, its two Zeldas are two of its biggest games and those both have HD re-releases, its mainline 3D Mario is perhaps the most polarizing of them all, and games like Mario Kart and SSB have more feature-rich sequels. With the analog hurdle as well it doesn't seem to leave a ton of incentive.

Style Savvy 3DS Sequel localized would get me more amped up than Pokemon Sun/Moon.

Good news for you. It's strongly indicated to be arriving, based on Trev's leak.

I'm not concerned but I wish the game is localized everywhere, it's awesome and everyone deserves it.
Although what I see coming is a 90% Yokai Watch focused direct.

:(

I don't see why we would get a YW Direct. Unless you're in EU. Even then I wouldn't expect it to be the main focus.

Here is what I expect
A lil bit on Zelda TP HD since they have been promoting it a lot
Pokken
Star Fox - New video maybe new date
SMTxFE - Western date
That Amiibo Toy game the digital game that released in Japan
Paper Mario - trailer prob Aug or Sept date late summer

Maybe another Zelda U teaser

I'd be delighted if PMU arrived that soon, but I'm expecting it and Zelda to be the only major holiday releases so I think it could come in October or so. I'm hopeful it'll be terrific regardless.

I know what they said, yes I did read it, but I'd be shocked if NX wasn't mentioned. Even just a 'we'll be showing it at E3 but no news today.'

After the leaks and rumours they can't just pretend the thing doesn't exist.

Apart from that, I'm expecting the usual unwanted timewaste on already-known titles like Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, a few eShop updates and announcements, a mention of Zelda's 30th and a Twilight Princess plug and maybe one surprise.

Zelda Wii U footage or news would be welcome.

They can pretend. Sure they can. They've been keeping from mentioning it as much as possible. I don't think the leaks will necessarily adjust the timetable for its reveal.

These are your choices:

No Paper Mario reveal but a quote saying it's more like the earlier games in the series

OR

Paper Mario announcement and new trailer and no guarantee on the direction

???

And without a reveal how could we get the quote?
Btw, the announcement should be done by a paper shibata

edit: beaten

some announcements will be leaked tonight if they are new games, wario just retweeted a tweet about a new game that might be announced tonight

dat trade mark detective time :P

If they dont announce Paper Mario U or 3D Mario or SOMETHING, I'mma...just post negative things on the internet

really bout to waste time showing off Struggle Fox 64 rehash and "Metroid": Flabby Force

We usually get one segment teasing something outside the Direct's advertised coverage (in this case, past summer). Best case is Paper Mario. Other than that or Pikmin I can't see what it would be, though the first-party 3DS calendar also looks fairly empty between Federation Force and Sun/Moon.

Thanks for this post, QN. I always enjoy reading your detailed thoughts. As to 3DS games, I'll just mention that Trev's leak indicated one major unannounced 3DS game for the summer, and pointed towards a possible Mario Party or similar game involving amiibo. I'm hoping for a Luigi's Mansion sequel but I'm not sure who would work on it. It could be a miscommunicated leak, though, in which case it could simply be a localization. I've long though that LM2's success should lead to a sequel though. As an even unlikelier announcement, 3DL2 always seemed like something that could happen.

Based on the various more reliable-seeming leaks, it appears Paper Mario is the sole major unannounced Wii U game, with Pikmin 4 likelier NX. We'll see though!

I am betting #FE will be a Q3/Q4 game.

September or October seem like good bets.

Give it Fatal Frame's October spot. Makes sense to me.

September more likely.
Paper mario october
Zelda november

I could see this, too. Trying to think of if Nintendo has ever released a major Wii U game in October, though. That could be a month they avoid like January and July. I guess the potential BX launch could shift around the usual release strategies, though.

I hate that Zelda WiiU/NX was announced three years ago, was delayed a full year ago now, and getting any information on this game in a NINTENDO DIRECT when fans have been begging for anything online for years is STILL an unrealistic expectation. The last time we saw or even heard a mention of this game aside from the 15 second clip in the last direct was 2014.

The game was announced about one year and nine months ago, not three years. I know that's still a long time, though. We should be playing it by the end of the year, at least.

...if the trailer shows the direction aren't these choices essentially the same? lol

It's a hypothetical!!!

The point is would you rather take a chance on seeing the game revealed whatever it is OR would you rather have nothing shown but see/read an unrelated-to-Direct comment for some reason by the developer that it's "more similar to the older PM games"???

I rather see something and either have my dreams come true or hopes dashed.
