Nice tune in the video.

After playing through the three DS entries back to back, Portrait and Ecclesia especially had something powerful tracks, but I'm missing the gloomy gothic cathedral vibe from SoTN. The file select choral still gives me goosebumps.
 
I thought the model looked good and very detailed. Plus that cell shade look

The only issue I have is that having this level of fidelity as the target for the whole game?

Her nipples must hurt from the strain against that double sided tape used to keep them in her dress. If I were the character creator I'd probably go with half that size if only for physics, but the lines would also make for a better look IMO.

Edit: But let's be real here, they are most-likely taking this route because it opens up possibility for better merch sales for stuff like figurines and whatever to otaku. You're not gonna buy a $200 figurine when it even isn't your hobby just because she has a more moderate design. It is what it is.
 
Just because they decided to not turn it to 11 doesn't mean they're immune to criticisms or what they did end up with. While I am glad they had enough restraint to putting her bloomers and a longer skirt I still think the massive boobs are indeed distracting and silly.

And don't bring me that crap about complaint to real life women about their breasts. Miriam is a fictional character made up and designed by a human. Her breast size was a conscious decision as was the convenient position of the big tattoo on her left boob.

Overall I do like Miriam but there are some things that could've been better.

Oh fuck off. She has those markings all over her body. I'd find it more distracting if her entire body was covered in that, but somehow her breasts were mysteriously immune. You realize how dumb that sounds? You probably don't from the sounds of your ridiculous statements.

I still just maintain that there should be compression on the breasts or something to make it not look like her top is glued on; it's particularly striking in the profile views where that part of her body is shaped like she's wearing nothing at all. That would probably also serve as a reason for her breasts to appear smaller (as it does in some artwork already) without having to reduce her actual physical size.

It's a VIDEOGAME character! It's not a coincidence that she so happens to have huge boobs and a low cut dress because, you know, she must show the markings which so happen to be on her boob too. Its not a dealbreaker for me but I can and will point out how silly it is.

I don't appreciate the tone and language you're using. There's nothing further to discuss here if you can't have a civil discourse without resorting to insults and conspiracy theories about some agenda you think I have about any of this.

Personally I couldn't care less about the boob size and generally like the design (the skirt is too short though), I just wish they didn't look like they could pop out at any moment.

This is my biggest gripe too. It goes hand in hand with the low cut dress and massive boobs that gives us that feeling that they could pop out so there's that too. It didn't help that in the concept art she was neither as big or her dress as low cut. Hell, her chest marking was almost at her left shoulder instead of on the mammary which makes it very silly.
 
This subject has been brought up every single update. It's borderline ad nauseum by now.

I know some of you have strong opinions on this issue, but bringing up again and again every single time the Bloodstained kickstarter is updated. No offense to name dropping, but reminds me of a Crossing Eden discussion awhile back.

Is it not enough to simply state your displeasure about the characters appearance, but when it's brought up again, and again, and again. I think you've established your point.

Aren't there other things worth talking about, such as the Create a Weapon, or even Virt's contributions to the project in terms of audio. OR even wondering if any of the Backer Achievements have all be addressed and whatever potential inclusions have been accounted for. There is plenty to discuss about this upcoming game, but it seems it's always gravitated on this one tired subject.
 
Well that's the thing, that style is... bad. She doesn't look cool or badass, she looks like she's on her way to a Babymetal concert.

Yeah, Miriam is lame. But then again, so was Maria. Oh well, hopefully that won't detract too much from the game.

I wouldn't go as far as saying she's an eyesore. Not even close. I, mostly, like her design and think it could've been easily better had they had a bit more restraint in the breasts area. Now here's to hoping they make good on her personality and make her a likeable badass and not an anime loli trope or some crap like that (for further review of what not to do see Metroid Other M's Samus).

I thought her design was rather interesting and unique, regardless of the shortness of her skirt.

Somehow, it just works overall, and reminds me a bit of Maria. I do hope they have more alternative costumes though, besides just pure form.
 
Oh man, I realize now that I'm left hungry for more. This update only furthers my gut feeling that its going to be an awesome game. They keep doing everything right about it so far! And this new info gave me a shot in the arm to continue waiting but it barely moved this thread too much to continue discussing it and satisfying some of that Bloodstained famine I'm feeling.

This is going to be a long wait.

I find it hilariously silly that you basically just called her breasts a problem. You are creating a problem that doesn't exist. Maybe I should start approaching women on the street just to let them know their breasts are a serious problem, and that they should take steps to correct that. Seriously, what in the hell is wrong with you people?

I liked character Shader 1 more (and thus voted for) because I didn't like how Shader 3 made her hair look (plus Shader 3 felt a bit like the contrast was too high), but it's all good.
 
Shaders, colors, and art direction look fantastic. Really liking shader and background 3.

I definitely however side with some of the earlier posters that I feel Miriam's garb looks impractical for per proportions. I would appreciate something more respectful for a leading lady. I understand that this is going for a stylized look, but as a married man, I'm really not comfortable playing games like street fighter V, with women sexualized to an extreme, and as a long time IGA-vania fan, i'm really hoping that this game does not head in that direction.

In the comments section of the new update, there are others voicing similar opinions. Ben Judd (IGA's agent and translator) recently posted in response to some of the concerns:

"Folks,
Thanks for all the great feedback. Just wanted to say that the team really appreciates the passion but is even happier when the backers can agree to disagree in a friendly manner. The game is still very much in mid-development which means you'll see some things that initially you may not like or agree with but give it time... Seeing the character in motion or actually control the character in game may change your minds. For now, the takeaway shouldn't be which shader won or lost... it should be that IGA is ALWAYS listening to his army of the night... (Oh, and 2 dozen donuts is A LOT OF SUGAR!)"


Hopefully his response isn't only addressing the shader discussions, but Miriam's appearance as well.
 
I suspect that her proportions are at least partially a design consideration due to how she looks in silhouette with the camera zoomed out (like it typically would be in-game). They've already made a couple of other adjustments to her design due to this (like the ribbons being added).

As for alternate outfits, there are definitely going to be at least a couple of them as they were part of stretch goals for the campaign.

Pretty much. It seems like certain parts of her design need to be exaggerated to show as a more distinct silhouette in normal gameplay (the flowing ribbons also probably adding to the running animation to make it look more dynamic).
 
Her boobs aren't THAT big. Yeah, they're big, but in the sense that they look like big breasts that would naturally belong on a woman. If anything, it just looks like her outfit is holding them up in the same way a push up bra would. I see no issue here.
 
My personal preference would be if they had found a way to implement the heavy outlines of shader 3 while keeping the color balance of shader 1. I also still think they should make the outline thickness independent of distance from the model, the way line thickness generally doesn't vary with distance in line art.
 
The best thing about this update was seeing Ben being mentioned again. Didn't hear from him in a while, it would suck if he was no longer involved. He's awesome!

Same here. Shader 3 works great for the character model but makes the castle look too cartoony. Hence why I voted 3/1.

LOL, I never consciously recognized them! They just sort of blended in as straps for her corset, but now that you mention it, I love them! Now I have to find them all - I only see 9. I hope they work even more belts in. I want hidden belts all over the outfit XD

Edit: Looking at the other character designs, Johannes has several excess belts all over his outfit but Gebel only just has one. Oh god, all I'm going to see is belts now!

I think she looks fine, overall I think she looks proportionate. If people really think she's too top heavy I don't have an issue if they make her a bit smaller though.

They mentioned 2 more updates on the way in the patreon post. I'm hoping we get those pretty soon. Really hope we start to see monsters soon.

I just think the balloons look dumb. But to be honest, I'm more bothered by the exposed thighs. Not a decency thing, but it looks like she'd be chilly as hell in that castle. Speaking as a dude with hairy legs who wears long pants 95% of the year, lives in a generally warm climate, and still gets chilly.


Also, I've put money towards this, and the developers have repeatedly asked for feedback, so I think I'll keep giving them that.

Some women in real life have big boobs. In fact, lots of them do. I don't know why this is always brought up.
 
I just want to say I only bring up the boobs because every time they release an update they get more and more ridiculous. This was the first time we've seen her model rotate, and from the side those torpedoes jut right out.

The design is just a little silly. Plus her knees and fingers are weird.

Personally, I kinda feel that the people who don't have a problem with her massive torpedo tits pouring out over her impossibly low-cut corset are the ones that are a little weird. The design is wack.
