What's the beef with ghostbusters 2? I just watched both films last night and the second one is a decent flick and still holds up.

Ghostbusters 2 is very funny, and has a fantastic villain... and it's more time with the Ghostbusters. I've always loved it.

It wasn't until the internet that I found out that I wasn't supposed to, but now as people who watched it as kids grow up and as more and more kids and young adults discover them both at the same time, I think it's really starting to get recognition.

Yes it's a retread like almost every sequel out there.

I think the original movie was incredibly original and ground breaking for it's time, and the second was just more of the same (though arguably the funnier movie... Egon *slays* in GB2). So people who saw the first at the time it came out were disappointed by the second. But now, just watching them both together outside of that context...

It's really hard to find fault with Ghostbusters 2 and that's why I think its fanbase continues to grow. It's like Mario 64 and Mario Sunshine, to make a gaming reference. One totally reinvented 3D platformers. When Sunshine was 'merely' a great new 3D platformer people slated it.

Oh, and you can write it off however you want, but I loved this new trailer. Feig really impressed me last year with Spy and Other Space.

Overall, it looks fine. A bit rote (generic CG skeletons, a few obvious gags) - but nothing outright offensive. Looks like an perfectly enjoyable action-comedy. At the same time, it's not really blowing me away in any particular area.
I also don't hold the original film up as the ultimate manifestation of my childhood, so maybe I'm in the wrong place to try and understand the outrage.

Gotta agree with this bit too. The black lady just seemed to be a checklist of token black character stereotype. Granted, Hudson's character from the original was kinda like that too (emphasis on "kinda"), but the movie was made in the 80s and it also wasn't really as obvious.

So to not only see it in today's day and age with the new female black character, but also done with in a very unsubtle manner ("the power of Christ compels you" bit, really?) is rather jarring to say the least.

I actually felt the same way. Why not switch things up and have one of the white girls be the Subway attendant? It would make zero difference to the overall script. Why not have the African American character be a scientist?

Imagine Kristen Wiig's character works for the NY Subway and sees a ghost late one night while working in one of the more obscure tunnels and joins forces with the GB crew to find out what happened. Her 'non scientific busting' would give her our more accessible way into the world of busting ghosts. She wouldn't have to be 'street tough' but she could be a history nerd who is obsessed with the storied history of the Subway system.

Hell, you could even have her Grandfather be the original author of Tobin's Spirit Guide to bring the whole thing full circle.

here's the problem.... they already know going in that there is a LOT of negativity and backlash against this movie. They had ONE job, make a compelling trailer and what did they do? NOT THAT!

Wait is this a remake or a sequel? The way the trailer opened up made it seem like a sequel but maybe they were only talking to us and not about the world of the movie. I gotta say, they did an excellent job with the monsters - they all look super cool. Interactions and comedy seem fine - not amazing but not bad at all either (aside from the "I'm slapping the spirit out of you bit; that didn't do much for me). It will always be a shame the old team can never get back together (RIP Ramis) but this looks like a fine movie. Nothing I see here makes me hype but I'll probably turn out to the theater unless I hear some really meh/terrible reviews.

I think it's awesome seeing woman taking on a genre that's usually "boys only" and breaking barriers, so having a major black stereotype in this movie is even more fucked up. I hope I'm wrong and it's just an awful edit of her character in the trailer, but I don't like what I saw at all.

Outside of that, the film does not look terrible to me. CGI-heavy for sure and revealing too much of the plot, but it's nowhere near bad as some of you are making it out to be. Spy had awful trailers too and that turned out to be an awesome film.

I'm a huge fan of Ghostbusters and I couldn't stop smiling while watching this. I'm even more pumped to see more.

I can't understand how people are making wide judgements on the movie by only seeing a 2 min preview. I understand just not liking what you saw, but to state that it isn't going to be scary or dangerous or whatever description from 2 mins seems short sighted.

Trailer was fine. No tokenism unless you want there to be. McCarthy continues to be funny for the most part. SFX looked about right.

So yeah. The trailer is exactly what you should expect. People just want to complain.

I still have no interest to watch it in the theaters and will wait to rent on Netflix.

I brought it up earlier, but when McWeeney spoiled the script (in an effort to get out in front of Deadline's poisoning the well about the movie) he actually made that mistake: He basically said the transit employee was gonna be McCarthy, because how it played on the page seemed to be a perfect fit for her.

I wonder if Feig & Co. thought the same, and then switched it up, or if McCarthy decided playing the louder, broader comedic part was starting to get old, or if McWeeny simply guessed wrong.

As it stands now it seems like she's playing Sookie St. James in a Ghostbusters outfit.

Anyway, it's not a great trailer but Sony doesnt' cut great trailers, and there's enough in here to make me thing the movie itself is going to be pretty solid.

Judging by the likes and comments, these women have jumped into a bit of a minefield with this movie. The movie clearly presses a lot of buttons. You have the 'you're raping my childhood' crowd and and 'feminism/pc bullshit' crowd congregating together. It's not pretty.

It looked very average to me, but not sure it's worth getting in a huff over. Actually I know it's not.

Yeah, Sony's not great at the trailer game. You could see McKinnon's probably going to be pretty popular after this, though. They all are. And you could tell they were hiding Hemsworth like a motherfucker, too.

Eh, most of the comedy kinda lost a bit of its edge. There is great stuff in Ghostbusters II, and I actually think some of the imagery is actually more unsettling, which is rad. But the repeated structure "plus a baby!" hurts it a bit. Still enjoyable though.

I remembered it as terrible and watched it for the first time in probably 15 years last night and was pleasantly surprised.

Agree on the imagery, the first scene of the sludge is pretty awesome.

I hoped they bucked the trend of comedies showing the best jokes in their trailers. I know this is a re-boot, but I didn't know they were just straight up reusing bits from the old ones (calm then scary library ghost scene anyone?), the last "slapping" gag has been done a thousand times since Airplane too.

Wanted to keep an open mind about this, but the trailer was a bit flat and just unfunny.

The bolded makes no sense. It's basically standard time to release a trailer. Some big movies even go way earlier, even if they have nothing to show (LOOKING AT YOU, FANTASTIC BEASTS)

Well, to me that seems to be a rather common trend for the really awful movies. That said I'm not going to dispute that you guys are wrong.

It probably won't be as bad as that movie but it's really not standing out to me as brilliant or even above-average. Which are generally the same thoughts I had for Pixels.

It's not even a case of me thinking the film looks awful, I'm just not really expecting anything great from what I've seen of the trailer.
