Yeah I've watched it 3 times. I just am grooving to the visuals so much and they showed only two small McKinnon bits and you can already tell she's going to be amazing.

What was cool is that it laid out that these are not the Original 4 gender swapped.

It's interesting there's two straight women and two stylized comedians in the team.

Wiig and Mccarthy are playing it serious and McKinnon and Jones are going to own.

I think I might go media dark on this movie now. Like I did with Star Wars TFA

Agreed. I've seen more than enough to know they've got my butt in the cinema.

Oh, and forgot to mention the wonderful stereotype of the street smart, loud, and violent black woman. I cringe so much.
Gotta love those stereotypes of black people from a 2:00 long trailer. Those loud, violent, chicken eating, obnoxious, stupid black people. Ugh seriously Ghostbusters.

The look is ok, I am excited cause I like the cast but the comedy did not feel like Ghostbusters at all. Ghostbusters was not slapstick or filled with gags, it was smart witty dialogue that made it work.

Also if this is a sequel then how are people laughing at the book about ghosts the heroes wrote. Everyone would know ghosts are real.

What they were great at in the 80s was making shit for adults and then trusting that adults wouldn't give a fuck and would just let their kids watch whatever at home.

Then it went one step further near the end of the decade and they started directly adapting adult properties into Saturday Morning Cartoons. Because there was too much money to be made in directly advertising to children (which wasn't a thing that was allowed on that scale until the 80s, thanks Reagan).

That the children of that era grew up, got handed the keys to Hollywood, and haven't stopped making hard PG-13 & R-rated versions of the stuff they watched on SLP VHS tape in those days isn't at all surprising in that context.

Nope, I guess not. I actually remember being scared watching Ghostbusters as a kid. My dad was cool about letting us watch stuff.

What the hell is up with hand guns? Just have the packs and traps, and that's it.

Taking inspiration from The Real Ghostbusters and Extreme Ghostbusters.

EGB had gun like particle throwers. Blonde haired Egon, etc..

Not a sequel

You know what it reminds me of?

The Robocop Remake. An unnecessary Remake that needed to be made for a cash grab. That's all that this is.

Ironically, Robocop remake wasn't that bad of a movie. I feel no such warmth from this. It just looks terribly unfunny.

Ghosts look okay (thanks CG!) and I'm fairly okay with the different "weapons" instead of just the proton packs (the game did this very well, actually), but I'm not convinced this isn't going to be terrible.

Nice to see Melissa McCarthy playing a more restrained character.

Trailer was aight. Only thing that leapt out as bad was another "power of ____ compels you!" joke.

I'm reading the opening text as a reference to the first film's existence as opposed to implying this is a sequel to said first film. The content of the trailer screams reboot to me.

In the ghostbusters world, people basically have short memories. In Ghostbusters 2, a big part of the movie is basically thinking the GBs are full of shit/con artists.

There is an interview on IGN where they say it is a hard reboot and the first two films never happened.

I liked the design choices. I felt like it was an interesting take. Colourful, but that sort of horror neon.

The problem is the cast and humor just felt like a big miss.

What sense will any of the cameos make then?

Also, fuck da haters! I think this could be a fun watch!

Its original actors just showing up as random people. If anything they are showing up to try and defang some of the hatred. Give it a original cast stamp of approval type thing.

The trailer itself is really a deliberate case of misleading. They are trying to ape the Jurassic World Nostalgia big time and are quick to bring up the original movies while having nothing to do with them. Hey guys remember the firehouse that doesn't even play a role in this movie even though we are showing it to go full nostalgia

Trailer did nothing for me, very bland. I tried to watch Spy as I heard many good things, but I had to stop 45 minutes in, the humor just fell completely flat for me and it felt very generic and boring. This trailer kinda has that same vibe. Goddammit I really want Ghostbusters back, but I really don't think this is it.

I don't think anybody is saying that racism/sexism doesn't exist, but it does get annoying that you can't just not like something anymore without somebody on the internet saying you have some ulterior motive unless it's obviously completely utter trash or primarily features white men.

I wouldn't accuse anyone in this thread, I cannot look into people's head and I'm not going to judge them if they don't like the movie. Tastes differ, perfectly fine. I disliked the Mad Max trailers. That said it's clear from the various threads at GAF (regarding the rumors or announcement), the posts at Reddit or the reactions on Twitter that (even casual/everyday) sexism is a noticeable factor (regarding the Youtube dislikes and/or general reception).

Yeah, they are gonna kill it. I just hope they go beyond of making Jones just the loud black woman, shit is just jarring or even worst that and Winstoned also.

Well considering this is the first big chunk of the movie we saw that's not going to be very difficult.

Honestly it looks good enough to hold me over until the Russo Bros version comes out.

That'll be a long ass time.

The comedy in this seems like it's on the complete opposite end of the spectrum. The original was smart and understated, and this is wham bam in your face. Should have expected that with that cast and director.

Not too excited - looks like garbage. Can't wait for the inevitable scene where McCarthy can't get into her suit for 5 minutes.

Between this and Full House, it might be a tough year for 80s nostalgia. Time to let it go. At least Back to the Future day was fun.

The piano intro theme was cool though.

That would have been really depressing had I not already been expecting the worst.
