Ha! Yeah, on that we agree - and yeah, we're essentially saying the same shit, but in different words. Apologies for dragging that out.

OH GOOD JOB, BOBBY

It's not a good cartoon. It's very bland and boring with corny as hell morality lessons and songs. I re-watched a few episodes with some friends on Netflix and found it not enjoyable to watch, just to make fun of later with friends.

Gem was clearly the result of an executive's cocaine bender.

That was a bit tame, I'm hoping that the stuff in this trailer is just to try and show people that they have lots of ghosts and things getting shot at.

I remember the first Spy trailer not exactly blowing me away, but the final movie was amazing. So hopefully this is the case here.

I will try to be the Devil's Advocate here and say that we shouldn't judge the entire ghost catalog on what we saw on the trailer. Despite everything, I'm pretty sure the movie will feature pretty amazing, creepy/disgusting ghosts as the plot moves on.

I was thinking an accidental acid trip with all the washed out yet trippy colors.

In either case, I don't think the new Ghostbusters movie will be anywhere near Jem levels. It'll be probably at worst an okay movie. However the problem with that is being an okay movie in a legacy that started at Ghostbusters 1 would be kinda shitty.

That trailer went out like a wet fart.

Like, McKinnon, you're saying a funny thing, why do you sound bored.

At least it doesn't look like Pixels bad

Don't expect it.

It was more just the trailer tipping its hat to the original. Outside of the world of the movie.

Also pretty sure that's these Ghostbusters' firehouse

Yeah not 100% sure on that yet, could be a hat tip, same with the Firehouse and Slimer, but the new team have a new base though, the building shown a few times in the trailer, not a Firehouse this time.

Guess we will find out soon enough.

Looks as forgettable and unnecessary as I expected. The new Egon is looking like the highlight of the whole thing since she looks like she has some natural charisma that might elevate the poor material she will probably have to work with.

I'll admit to being cynical going into the trailer, but that was a lot worse than I expected. None of the jokes managed to raise even a smile, which is hugely disappointing.

Happy to see how it goes closer to release but I just don't think this is the reboot for me.

Kinda hard to feel bad about thinking the all-female cast was just a cynical gimmick when, yet again in 2016, these are the kind of roles offered to black women. I feel bad for her.

Though, nostalgia has convinced me many things from my childhood were good that were not.

Masters of the Universe is a terrible cartoon. I actually prefer watching Monster High straight to DVD movies with my kid more than original MoTU now.

Used to love real ghostbusters too, but scared to find out how it holds up

I wasn't wow'd by anything and the jokes kinda fell flat to me, but I'm still giving this a shot. I thought SPY looked to be nothing special when I saw the trailers too, but when I finally watched it on Netflix I thought it was one of the best comedies released in the past 5 years.

Ghostbusters is my favorite movie of all time, so I'm a bit biased, it's going to take a lot to win me over. I like the cast, I like the director and I love the IP, but I guess I need more time to separate when I'm seeing from what I had anticipated from what I remember. I'm now at that place where I have to be careful not to judge the movie on what I wanted it to be, but for it is. Kinda like how some Man of Steel haters were down on it for not being the Reeve's films. That's not fair and not how you judge a movie.

Maybe. For Leslie though, that is kind of her thing on SNL. I knew a few people that were at some of the production. She was the most into the production and interacting with the crowd beyond takes. Which I admit sounded pretty fun.

Not a great look, but the role could have been adjusted with her in mind.

Recently bought the Real GB box set. I am pretty entertained by it.

I don´t know, something felt off about the trailer. Kinda low energy.

I like 3/4 of the squad, and i don´t dislike Mccarthy, she´s alright, but i´m not really feeling it here. The jokes fell flat for me. Maybe it´s the editing or the music. Don´t know.

Will wait for the second trailer to decide whether to watch in cinemas or Netflix. But not looking so hot right now.

Jem was a blatant disaster. This is not comparable to Jem lol.

Maybe people feel the same way about this as they do with that? The majority of people in this thread don't seem to like. The like/dislike on Youtube is obviously slanted in the negative direction. So views in general are negative on it just like with Jem.

Fair enough, I'm not familiar with her SNL work.

Looks really bad. Younger generation won't really care about it. Older generation cannot get over the cast. And it just doesn't look funny or innovative.

Real question: has Leslie Jones ever been funny in anything? I've only ever seen her in terrible SNL sketches. Are there any legit good ones of her? How did she become famous?

Other than that, I actually think this looks good. Seeing secretary Hemsworth made me remember how hilarious his role can potentially be.

Ghostbusters isn't really slapstick humor. Even the real ghostbusters cartoon took ghosts more seriously than this

Ill watch it, but begrudgingly and only on Netflix or whatever

From a comedy perspective, I think there's a missing element of effective joke set up happening (which is definitely skewed based on the trailer). The getting slimed joke in the trailer is standard fare for modern comedies. It's something no one expects is going to happen and it just occurs. No real set up. The humor comes from the fact it's gross. And Feig relies on this often enough, so I imagine this could be the case.

Contrast that with the original, where there's the conversation, a set up with the sight of the ghost and the subsequent suspense for the audience that leads to the punchline of Murray getting slimed and Akroyd's reaction to it.

It just reads better in the original. The payoff is what? The gross factor of Wiig getting slimed? Sure people will laugh, but they won't really remember it as fondly as the orginal.

I don't see how it could be seen any other way. The main targeted audience for this movie are women. Hell the trailer debut was on ellen.

It's ok. It isn't what i was hoping for

It's really not targeted just for women. They have women as the main cast. Is Tomb Raider, Bayonetta, Metroid all about lipstick and breaking up with boyfriends?

:/

I was cautiously optimistic, but that just looks like every other mediocre comedy that defines modern Hollywood. Where's the wit?

The Cadillac line is the best the trailer has, yet it also feels decades out of date.

IIRC she helped produce and write modern SNL.

But she's known for her weekly update bits on dating.

She's probably the weakest in the minor cast, and tends to accidentally recycle jokes from her past weeks.

I just feel there isn't a natural flow to it like the original one had it just feels tacked on especially all the jokes

Yep, exactly the same shitty slapsticky-Scary Movie type humor I feared from Paul Feig. I was hopeful that maybe he knew what he was doing and some of the ghost stuff looked fun, but this tone of humor completely misses the mark. Should be more dry and less in your face. It's just grating to me. The Wayans' may as well have written it.

I was told Spy was amazing and the trailer that made it look like shitty humour was misleading.

So I watched it and was treated to images of a dick as a joke, more than once.

Because dicks right? Hahahahahaha
