they should have casted Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and Sarah Silverman instead
Replace Sarah Silverman with Kristen Schaal and keep either Melissa McCarthy or Kristen Wiig in there somewhere and I'm on-board with this.

TBF they should've gone deeper into comedy instead of going the SNL route if they really wanted to pull this off.

Kristen Schaal
Lauren Lapkus
Kaitlyn Olson
This is good too.

You will never be able to prove whether the hate comes from the quality of the trailer or the fact that it is an all female cast

Yes, some people won't like it just cause it looks bad to them, but are you honestly going to tell me that all of the misogynistic comments this movie and trailer have been getting from day 1 are fake?

I'd say remove McCarthy and keep Wiig.

Tina Fey, Schaal, McKinnon, Wiig.

Idris Elba as Hemsworth.

I don't mind the change in direction with the cast, but I'm not feeling this.

I don't think it matters who was cast but how it's written and directed. I don't have a problem with this cast, it's the writing, and a different cast wouldn't actually change much. That being said I wish Emma Stone were in it.

It made me laugh at certain points, so that's points.

Not surprised that people are turned off by the fact that it's different from the original. First people say that it's trying too hard to be like the original, now people are saying that it doesn't try hard enough!

You definitely can't make everyone happy. Even if they just made a direct sequel with the same cast a third group would show up saying to do something new and different.

Yeah seriously, I was watching a video on Ghostbusters II with people talkin' about it and its predecessor, and one of them said that there was no way they would cast people of the original cast's age, and that the cast would be early 20's, early 30's at oldest (this was before the casting reveal). Despite being humorously wrong, they had a point - generally, they wouldn't do that. With a worse director, we may have only seen younger comedians.

I'm not really sure that this is a huge risk for the movie industry. They take the cast and the director from one of the most successful comedies of the last 10 years, and mash it up with one of the most beloved comedy franchises of the 80s and there you go.

I'm sure they have market research that says "people that like Ghostbusters like Paul Feig/Wiig/McCarthy/Bridesmaids".

For those that want a proper sequel, the Ghostbusters video game is pretty great, even if some of the voice acting is phoned in.

I still hope this one delivers, after watching the trailer again it seems like it could be fun.

Ghostbusters: Now With Only White People
I'd prefer no Black people if it means they're not put in the situation of being the only non-scientist and as the person who is Street-smart. I've seen too many black people in that spot and it's really annoying. The Martian (which funnily enough has Wiig in it) has a black scientist, why can't this movie?

Well I think so much of what worked with the original GB was how the cast riffed off each other and just they felt like really a bunch of dudes who just got together to start a rinky dink ghost bustin' service in New York. So cast can certainly add a decent amount to it.

But I'm not giving McKinnon or Jones a fair enough shake, they'll probably riff off each other in the movie decently enough at the very worst.

How is that worse than the stereotype that they're using in this reboot?

A character being problematic is subjective

Objectively, the proposed cast there is all white :v

That said, I'd sooner have a problematic role for a non-white actor than no role at all. At least that role can be criticized in literal terms. If you criticize the lack of roles, people get after you for diversity quotas or shit like that

Looks alright. The cast very much look Ghostbusters-y.

My main gripe with the trailer itself honestly has to do with the *serious/comic relief/serious/comic relief* editing than anything else.

This trailer pretty much confirmed every one of my fears I had about the movie. Cant wait to catch this on HBO Go in a few years for that Bill Murray cameo.

And the best part about that is that The Martian got shit for a bit because Ejiofor's character was supposed to be Indian

Never mind, I thought you implies all-white with a negative connotation. Certainly sounded that way. A stereotypical-caricature role based on prejudices is NOT better than not including the character at all, but that's just my opinion.

You wanted examples of older women in Action movies, presumably with good reputation.

There's lots of examples of older female leads in these roles, mainly from sci-fi. It's even kinda a trope at this point.

Never said Weaver wasn't just that she's the only one.

Anyway my point was that this movie has a rather unique cast makeup and no examples offered really disproved that

I don't want to deraik this thread further.

The fact is for women we're allowed to be excited about this cast and movie. Even if it ends up just being a decent film instead of a great one.

This all started because a post from a female fan was shared and bunch of people rushed to shit on her and proclaim she shouldn't be excited.

Tina Fey, Schaal, McKinnon, Wiig.

Idris Elba as Hemsworth.
Maybe I'm not paying attention but where are people expressing these misogynistic comments? I haven't really been privy to it
Everyone that I speak to that hates the concept of this movie is because it's "oh no not another unnecessary remake"

Fucking hell really? He was the best part of the movie for me. Everyone loved Matt Damon but Ejiofor's sections as the scientist doing all these things to get Matt Damon's rescue off the ground made me really like him and sold me the movie.

My girlfriend was at a conference recently where they were discussing how the movie really made scientists look less like a stereotype. That they weren't the typical people running that liked science and math and were more like caricatures than real people. I really feel like Ejiofor really help sell that feeling too and I thought maybe we could get more of those characters that break these Hollywood norms.

But no, whatever, let's just be mad that he wasn't Indian.

So wait, it's not okay to be bothered by that?

Facebook, Twitter. My point is that even being in the dark about the media surrounding this film, it's stupid/naive to assume that none of the hate is because of sexism.

It was a diversity group that was upset about it. They were made about that and another role that they said got whitewashed. The author came out and basically said 'I wrote them as such, but it's not a necessity at all', and it all died down.

And let's be real here, if you can get Chitwetel Ejiofor for anything, you get him. Dude's been a beast ever since I saw him in Serenity.

Not really applicable here I think, but you get the idea. People get mad about lots of shit.

Don't know why I was so surprised by shitty CGI ghosts. That trailer made me feel nothing sadly. Maybe it will be one of those fun movies with bad trailers I hope.

Did you just ignore how the film, before it had anything to it besides cast and director, was utterly despised by tons of people?

It's utterly naive to pretend that there aren't people whose hate for this film would be just as strong if it knocked Shawshank down to #2. on IMDB.

You're talking about a slim minority of people then. I don't know anyone who thinks like what you're describing.

man those dislikes on youtube along with the comments must be disheartening. I feel bad

I think it looks okay. I loooove kristen wiig but not a big fan of anyone else in there, tho Mckinnon is really funny at times

I love Ghostbusters cause of nostalgia and context. It's not precisely a cinema masterpiece, if we're being honest. Its fun, and this looks fun. hopefully its also funny

It looks fine to me. I think it's cool that they're aiming this at a wider audience, perhaps not necessarily "for the fans". I don't even know why Ghostbusters cultivated a nerdy fanbase anyway. They seem very territorial.

Wait. Wait. How are people saying this is a reboot and not a sequel when they clearly mention the original ghostbusters in the opening credits??
