Seeing articles and opinion pieces like this everywhere and I have a feeling pushing it this hard is going to make those who disagree push back harder.

"Even the ghost is a woman"

Yeah. Kinda like in the original movie. Which the author never watched apparently.

Not really feeling it. I'll probably watch it someday solely based on it's name but I'm definitely in no hurry.

You named:

Ultraviolet Not a franchise. Shitty movie
Aliens franchise
Aeon Flux Not a franchise. Shitty movie
Dark Angel Not a franchise. Shitty TV show
Buffy
Resident Evil Shitty series

Not disagreeing with you about the movie (though it certainly wasn't as bad as say Jupiter Ascending), but how can you say that Buffy is a franchise, but Aeon Flux is not. Flux had a TV show, merchandise and even a video game at one point. It's not like it was just a random one-off film.

The neon colors and glow for any ghost scene, and the color vibrancy in general make it feel like a Disney or Nickelodian live action movie in terms of visuals

The look and feel of the ghosts were fine. If anything, it was very much in line with the aesthetic used in the Ghostbusters video game. It fits the franchise.

If the trailer was recut to remove the slapstick humor and focus on the team and the ghosts, I'm willing to be it would get a much better reaction.

None of that was dumb gross-out/slapstick like it is here. When Murray first gets slimed it isn't even shown on screen or played for laughs.

It's a shifting of tones. Goes from serious to funny. Exactly as the first film begins - starts with these alleged professional ghost hunters strategizing on how to get a ghost, and shortly thereafter screaming while running away.

As for gross-out humour, just because it's not shown when it happens doesn't change that we still see him covered in the slime.

Its like they saw the lukewarm reception and decided to go full on paid shill to balance the equation.
Idk man, the misogynists on Twitter and Youtube are making me feel like I need to see it in theaters multiple times despite me feeling it was lukewarm.

I don't remember the first film starting off with a band of professional ghost hunters. Again, some people need to rewatch it.

yeah the media reception on this is really weird

the fact that they're goin this hard at FEMINISM YEAHHHH only gives the detractors more to chew on and bother

movie shouldnt be taken as IN YOUR FACE MEEEN and this trailer doesnt make me feel like they're goin for that at all. It just needs to be fun, who gives a crap about what gender they are

I guess its a cool moment and a cool thing for women to see, being given an opportunity to have this cast and budget on a franchise like this

so, sure, flaunt it, but the movie aint about that

Just saw it, actually. That you need to resort to dismissing people as being less informed on GB than you says nothing more than your argument is garbage. I was not referring to them as the official GB organization, merely them as people in the college trying to advance their agenda on spooky spooks. Making a good faith assumption that maybe you're misinterpreting what people are saying should be your priority, but alas.

The trailer has Adam Sandler movie vibe to it. Or Seth MacFarlane.
Specifically the part that lady yelling and smacking that other possessed lady and the general unfunny jokes.

Speaking strictly about the feel of the first 2 movies as I didn't play the game. Didn't feel like something extraordinary happening in an ordinary world. Felt more like something crazy happening in an already wacky world. It has that way too clean, multi colored light sources from a variety of angles kind of look to it.

"Feig agrees, saying that he liked the idea of basing it in today’s world “where there’s all these ghost shows, Ghost Hunters and stuff and you’re like are they crazy, are they not?” And if a ghost appeared today it would be “a phenomenal event,” but it wouldn’t be if this story were set in a world where ghosts have existed for the last three decades. Paul Feig explains why he came on to direct a Ghostbusters reboot in the first place."

I would honestly love to see a talented writer/director envision what the world might be like 30 years after it has been incontrovertibly proven that ghosts exist. Unfortunately that takes a lot more imagination than this lazy reboot/origin story.

I'm getting a strong feeling Jones is the one who gets the plot moving too
She finds the OG ghost
She gets the car
She gets shit going

The other three just derp around doing science shit and getting barfed on until she gets em in line

First time watching the trailer I wasn't impressed. It gets better with every rewatch though. I can't even tell which cast member will steal the show, they're all on point. And that music, hot damn!

Not really feeling it because the humor reminds me of Will Ferrell movies where they specifically tailor it to get the comedian hyuks instead of working the humor into the content of the movie. The 2 original Ghostbusters movies aren't perfect in that area but I feel like they had a better grasp of making the comedy work with the movie.

I might still see this though.

Does not look good...looks like an also ran reboot where they try to hit all the same lines but in a slicker, faster presentation. Why bother.

Also it seems this will be a rallying cry for certain publications

"Its perfect"

A guide to telling your family if they disagree with this movie they are sexist

EDIT: And don't forget this is Sony so this thing will be touched so much in post production by execs it will be even worse.

That Verge article, just.....wow.

Also noticed she quoted Samantha Allen and holy shit at that, I remember that whole Giant Bomb situation back in 2014.

Also the author's twitter......

Plus the awful one liners that make you cringe rather than laugh. Comedy films in Hollywood really suck nowadays.

I dont particularly mind what leslie jones is doing since I just associate it more with her shtick. I dont really like her, and she's doing what she always does.

that said, the trailer could have certainly been better edited

the fact that it straight up includes black lady goin Y'ALL SMART ABOUT MATH AND STUFF BUT I KNOW NEW YORK is fuckin hilarious in hindsight

like cmon

I'm worried that a poor reception to this, might kill any interest in the Russo version. Supposedly the script for that one was a bit more off-the-wall and I would love to see a slightly heavier action version of Ghostbusters.

I didn't get a "IN YOUR FACE MEN!" vibe from this like at all.

In fact I'll compliment the trailer in a way as I think it does a good job in demonstrating how the gender gap when it comes to humor really isn't that big of a deal, as for better or worse I think if there's any issue with the cast here it's simply due to embodying a more modern sense of mainstream Hollywood humor, nothing to do with their gender. If you cast the movie with men it would probably be the exact same going by the trailer, though I don't mean to imply that symbolically using an all-female cast for a popular reboot is pointless, as I think it needs to be done to show young girls that they don't have to limit themselves comically. They can play the goofs just as well as the dudes, and I think that's good in a way because finding your own sense of humor is important.

But like I said I'm not a die-hard Ghostbuster fan so I'm not going into this with any major baggage.

Were you also one of the people who deemed it trash before seeing it and deciding that all of the reviewers who gave it good reviews were wrong?

Comedy is just like music, highly subjective, you can't force somebody who enjoys trance music to like rap music just like you can't force someone to enjoy "bad" comedy movies. Someone out there will argue that Adam Sandler movies and the latest Scary Movies are funny films, doesn't mean to say they are good, to you.

I have to elaborate when I mentioned the balance between comedy and seriousness. I don't think there will be any part in this movie that would ever scare me, but there were some jumpy scary parts in GB 1 and 2.

1) The library old demon ghost scared the shit out of me.
2) The fucking demon dog in the apartment building scared me.
3) Winston and the team in the fucking abandoned subway scene scared me.
4) The TITANIC scene was damn scary!

As for gross-out humour, just because it's not shown when it happens doesn't change that we still see him covered in the slime.

Venkman getting slimed Ghostbusters 1984 acts as catharsis after what is a genuinely a kinda tense scene, and most of the humor comes from his verbal reaction to the experience ("I feel so funky!").

In Ghostbusters 2016 the joke is just a woman getting goop vomitted on her.

Except I didn't invite an opinion on the quality of Spy :v I was commenting on it being generally well-received and being promoted with a bad trailer.

Can you elaborate upon how you know the tone of the scene based on seconds of said scene?

Apparently you missed the 5 times that this trailer destroyed the patriarchy. Did you not see the female ghost? Consult with USA Today please.

I can only imagine how many times the patriarchy will be destroyed in the feature length film.

Expected it to be bad by the posts on here, actually thought it looked very good.

Also the moment the tune properly kicked in at the end gave me some nostalgia chills, remember being hyped for seeing the original at the cinema all those years ago.

The Egon style character, not sure what it is - but love her style, sounds like she's more a mechanic in this and not the brains so maybe they are not following the original characters.

Only part I didn't like was the introduction of Patty as the 'I'm black and thick but know the streets' type character - feels like the writers dropped the ball here, especially given that Winston from the original was just as adept and capable as the other three. Maybe I'm just reading into things..

It's not a matter of being informed. It's about the tone of a trailer being SO FAR OFF the tone of the original film and you stating plot points of the original which are inherently false. I'm not sure how you reach the conclusions you do, but im not arguing any further on it.

That's all well and good, most people didn't.

I wouldn't even call it trash, it is just wasn't my kind of comedy. Ghostbusters looks the same to me but like always I will never go crazy with hate over it. I don't get people that get overly angry etc over a film or anything else. You can easily just not watch it or just call it a bad film then move on.

Buffy was a 7-seasons long TV show that spun off it's own 5-season long TV show and a still-running comic series.

Aeon Flux was a cult segment on a cult show on MTV that nobody fucking watched, and the movie was a one-and-done.

It wasn't a franchise. It was a quirky failure that never should have been translated to live action in the first place.

This is a pretty good explanation for why I think the humor in the trailer feels cheap and falls flat.

im sure she'll be a "badass"

and the articles will be all over it cause feminism is about being a badass HELL YEAH POWER POSE WITH GUN

I seriously think most of these "looks like will ferrel looks like bland comedy" come from the shitty flat lighting

ghostbusters was really cinematic
